With 14 goals and three assists in the opening 15 Gameweeks, Sergio Aguero looked a near-essential component of our three-man frontlines until injury struck against Everton in early December. After missing five league fixtures, the City talisman’s return was eagerly anticipated by Fantasy managers but it’s fair to day that so far, Aguero’s recent displays haven’t quite been on a par with his early season endeavours.

Three goals and four assists in eight Gameweeks equate to a reasonable average of 4.875 points since recovering from a knee injury but this fares poorly against his returns from Gameweek 1-15, where he delivered seven points per appearance before he was sidelined through injury. With this in mind, we delve into the data to compare Aguero’s recent stats against his earlier displays and also analyse his efforts against other forwards from Gameweek 21 onwards.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Doubt it. Danny isn't good enough imo, despite his impact against United.

Yea I agree. But that goal could give him confidence going forward. So if Gru is having a shocker like he did vs Monaco, I can see Welbz reacin him after an hour mark to prove a point. Plus, bit of competition up there is good for us.

Well, yeah you're right. I was referring to his goal rather than any show of talent. He's just not good enough.
Giroud was clearly only rested so he's fresh for the derby anyway.

    Pantilimon
    Rose Clyne Bellerin

Transfer I'm considering is Wollschied to Ivanovic and bench Clyne or Rose. Thoughts?

Afternoon deadzone or alternative time zone greeting

Got a tactics question. My revised goal is to finish top 100. Currently im 380 and 25 points outside.

Is it too soon to stick my neck out and captain Sanchez knowing that 50%+ top 1k will go for Aguero? Or should I stick with the softly softly approach that's seen be gain 5 or so pts a week on the average?

No doubt aguero has dipped a little and I feel Sanchez is returning to form. But aguero has that explosive X factor that no one can match.

    What would you do?

I would captain Sanchez and take some Zanex come Saturday, hide behind the couch and enjoy the ride.

Then Monday, when Sanchez returns a brace, assist and 3 BAPs, i would go on a week-long bender, forget to update my team the next week and watch as he does the same all over again next GW, whilst all the other managers captained Hazard and Aguero (again).

      It's a fool-proof plan!

Similar boat. If I still have Sanchez, I'd possibly captain him. Getting rid of him last week for Sterling was one of the worst decisions I made this season.

Since I don't have him anymore, I'm still unsure. But I agree that Kun is not the best option this week - mainly the UCL factor, followed by form, and a certain Bony. Thinking Kane, Giroud, Silva or Haz atm.

It must be tough being a Man U fan watching a once dominant team being pretty mediocre but what you need remember is the number of supporters out there who go along week in week who have frankly won nothing for decades. You have been very fortunate to have had one of the most dominant teams in history and you will be again. Be thankful you are not an Oxford, Accrington, Wimbledon etc fan who have all been top divison and virtually been run out of existence due to financial mismanagement or someone just deciding to move your club to Milton Keynes and giving it a brand new name.

The problem is a little club trying to mix it with the big boys in the transfer market. When you get to the top and spend big it is tough when you cannot get rid of those players so easily after you are relegated exacerbating your problems.

        2. Marknlard
          • 16 Years

That's the classic scenario and Cardiff have fallen into a couple of other traps. Firstly, the debt has gone from about £30m before Tan took over (and that was around the time when Cardiff nearly went bust through unpaid tax bills) to around £150m now and the team on the pitch is in a far worse state than before him. And the chances of a Portsmouth style save are pretty minimal because a lot of the type of fan who would get off their ar*e to get it going have been turned off by the red shirt rebrand.

It's actually quite hard to work out where the money all goes. But it happens at so many clubs worldwide. How can the world's most popular sport have so much money and be so bankrupt? It's a really odd one.

          three in last eighteen matches

they just happened to come together like that, but one was at Palace, one was home to West Brom who went there just looking for a draw (and got one 0-0). The only one that was quality was the home draw with Liverpool.

look at our overall defensive record and how many goals we've let in against teams that we should be beating handily...

has anyone noticed how few transfers the top three have made over the season.

Surely this is no coincidence is the way to play the game to make the least amount of transfers possible? Or take calculated risks instead?

Nah. The top players get off to a flyer so generally are already on what then becomes template

Then, its easier to stay on top of injuries etc as they dont have other issues to resolve like players not being first choice early on in the season

To be top level, you kinda need a brilliant start

It's not a coincidence. The ones at the top are the ones who have made the correct decisions - or rather, their decisions have proven to be correct. So they haven't had to fix their team.

Basically, the way to play the game is to get everything right. You can win FPL by taking a 12 point hit every week as long as you get the dreamteam each time.

    4. Amateur Pundit Zan
      • 12 Years
      10 years, 9 months ago

As pointed out its partly cause partly effect.

The players who made the right decisions in hindsight rise to the top and already have the template players so don't need hits.

But also the ones who stay there have not necessarily knee jerked a player out after an individual bad week.

Last year winner Tom Fenley took more hits than conventional wisdom would have suggested wise, so there are many ways to win, though being lucky is a consistent theme. You can regular finish high based on skill but you won't be able to win without having more than your fair share of luck.

Had a bit of a chat yesterday about this. To me the people with wc have the main advantage between now and 34. They can make normal transfers for the next few weeks and have a solid team for 33.
I have no wc but have a plan( obv will fall apart) which gets
          Foster
          Terry Ivan PVA
          Haz Sanchez sigg cout
          Aguero giroud Austin

For the double with no hits. Sigg could even become hendo with a minus 4

I might take a hit for swapping my reserve keeper this week. Just to give everyone else a chance

No idea. When the time comes I'll activate my WC and see what funds allow.
Hopefully can put a mean DGW team together

8 DGWers for me looks likely. Maybe 9 if I keep Zouma over Ivanovic.

Panti, Bellerin, Terry, Ivan, Hazard, Sanchez, Henderson, Giroud

I can get those players I listed without using my WC, so might use it after GW 34 to chnage team up for final few games....

Despite all the chopping and changing, most only really make 5 or 6 changes to their team from their original set up, so really only worth -20.

      3 CHE + 3 ARS + 3 LIV + Panti + PVA (if he's nailed on).

11 DGWers and I like it

Nice, if they all do well. Silva will beat many of your DGW players, just to spite you!

For GW 35-38 you hide behind the couch as proper template teams outscore you? No point taking more hits this late in the season.
