With 14 goals and three assists in the opening 15 Gameweeks, Sergio Aguero looked a near-essential component of our three-man frontlines until injury struck against Everton in early December. After missing five league fixtures, the City talisman’s return was eagerly anticipated by Fantasy managers but it’s fair to day that so far, Aguero’s recent displays haven’t quite been on a par with his early season endeavours.

Three goals and four assists in eight Gameweeks equate to a reasonable average of 4.875 points since recovering from a knee injury but this fares poorly against his returns from Gameweek 1-15, where he delivered seven points per appearance before he was sidelined through injury. With this in mind, we delve into the data to compare Aguero’s recent stats against his earlier displays and also analyse his efforts against other forwards from Gameweek 21 onwards.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Okay, let's get a little bit serious (only a little bit). Go to the transfers page and, assuming LIV and the rest will have DGW34 too, try to put your best line up for that special GW. How will you line up?

    Here's mine:-

    PANTI
    TERRY IVAN BELLERIN
    SANCHEZ HAZ Silva HENDO
    GIROUD Kane Kun

    (Krul PVA Naughton Boyd)

8 DGWers and I like it. I still got DGWer PVA on my bench. Only drawback is I'm going to lose Clyne 🙁

Whatever the wildcard will buy 😎
But seriously, I can't imaging going without Ivanovic, Hazard, Sanchez, Giroud, a Liverpool defender, an Arsenal defender, Henderson.
The big question mark will be Costa. If he is a yellow away from a ban, then it will be a risk, but perhaps one worth taking.
The other unknown will be whether Chelsea will have essentially wrapped up yhe title race by then. If they are comfortable, then any of thrir players might be due a rest.

Fabs could also be banned by then, in which case I will get Ozil and Zouma instead of Fabs and Moreno.

kun->costa for the occasion then with a view of getting back. Actually u might just end up keeping costa as both have strong fixtures

a Costa on fire + free of suspension will just demolish any pre-DGW34 planning.

LIV defender is definitely good but not sure if he's worth a place ahead of Ivan, Terry and a cheapo ARS defender. Unless you go 4 at the back which is something unusual to do in a DGW.

Not tempted with Cout or Studge?

Defintely tempted... I suppose that with a wildcard and decent team value I can afford to wait. Will go for those with the best form.
Two Chelsea defenders might be too much. Chances are, they will concede in at least one game. Just Ivanovic is enough for me. The other issue is whether Chelsea players will be rested. We'll know more in a month or so.

How about bench Panti, 2 Arsenal, 1 Liverpool, play 3 Chelsea plus Mahrez and bring in 2 on free transfers. Should give at least ten in gw 33 and nine for the DGW. May only want 8 for the DGW as would still play Aguero, Silva and possibly Kane.

Hmm. I have 6 DGW players already without trying so if I bring in one more Chelsea player and save a transfer at some point I can easily have 9 before hits. So what I really need to do this week is get a cheapish defender who has a good GW33 as well because I already have Hutton, Ivan and Bellerin. Thank god for Chelsea having matches both weeks

Understand the 'up' potential. But he is a defender who plays for Leicester

Probably more than Hutton. Hutton keeps giving 1pointer every week anyway 😀
His OOP prospect is what tempts me, high chance of assists/goals. Played in front 3 of 3-4-3 against Everton. Fixtures are decent till end, so we can use him every now and then.

That is true. I find myself strangely tempted by a gamble on an Everton. They have 2 good home games those weeks. I know the form would suggest this is a bad idea but I may do it anyway.

    Gents,

Im on my WC and am thinking of bringing in Ospina and Alderweireld. Other than perhaps Koeman easing Alderweireld back this week by using him as a sub, which I can live with considering the fixture anyway, how safe are these selections otherwise until season's end? Will Szczesny get another crack? Doesn't seem so with Arsenal's current form.

I think both are fairly safe picks.
Total guess but would predict Alder back in the 11 once fully fit, as you say doesnt matter if he misses this week.
Again, total guess but Ospina seems safe for Prem games now. Rumors of Szcz being linked to moves to Italy

Both good picks imo. I don't think Toby will be rushed in but if you're chasing then Toby is an ideal option if you're not going Clyne or Berty. Ospina imo should keep his spot at least in PL games, but i still think Bellerin is the best pick as a route to ARS defense.

Not sure why there is so much emphasis on the DGW. Those with a DGW will have a blank in GW33 anyway apart from Chelsea and Leicester. The only thing you need to do is have 3 Chelsea players and 2FT ready for the DGW. Thats it.

      Agree Ryan

3 Chelsea with 2 Arsenal and 1 pool on the bench in 33 = 6 double players
Add in 2 fts in 34 makes 8 double game week players
Play around with 2nd keeper could make it 9 double game week players
Even a justified 4 point hit could be order and you have 10.

All that said having a WC would be so much easier and my GW 33 team will be gash

No you're right SAB, Chelsea don't have a blank so its a fair strategy. Although if you deliberately avoid solid players because they have a blank in GW33 then I think you'll be missing out

Yeah 33 will look (like in 5 weeks time it will be anything like this!)

              Foster
              PVA(blank) Terry Ivan Aldew Wollow
              Haz Boyd Siggy
              Aguero Kane

              Giroud/Cout/Sanchez

Then Kane to Austin and Siggy to Hend

              Gives
              Foster
              PVA Terry Ivan
              Haz Sanchez Cout Hend
              Austin Aguero Giroud

What I'm concerned about is we'd all end up with rubbish players in our squad because we are limited to a smaller pool of players who have a fixture in GW33. To me this is a faulty strategy and rather unnecessary. I certainly don't want to avoid good players because they have a blank.

Those without WC have to plan accordingly since they might have some trouble fielding 11 in GW33 if they are to have 2 FTs come DGW34, just like the previous GW27/28 scenario.

Fielding 11 in GW33 isn't particularly important. Field 8 and you get an extra 3DGW players. Thats a perfectly ok strategy too. For all you know GW33 will be a total dud and its the DGW that should be exploited. I don't think there needs to be a mad rush to field 11 in GW33. You'll still get the same amount of fixtures.

GW33 will be a total dud - tell that to our new friend Holmes. It was the perfect GW for him to climb up the rank and he did tremendously. The key is to have an okay strategy or best worked out one.

I partly agree 11 in BGW33 is not that important. I even set up my team to play 11 and eventually ended up with just 10. But if you don't plan well and you might not survive that GW. Every GW counts imo as we are entering the final 10 GWs, so I personally don;t want to see an unnecessary red arrow in GW33.

I fielded 8 in a GW a few seasons back and still did ok. Then the following week I had a massive DGW and got a massive score. The door can swing both ways here. I don't think either option is better than the other. So as a result there is no need to stress about it.

Stress is bad but proper planning is definitely better. What you said (3 CHE + 2 FTs) is the conventional and sesible way, but I'm sure something's better can be done.

Non-WC holders have to. 3 Chelsea and 2FTs will give nothing more than 6DGWers, that to for -4pts.

The only planning a non WCer has to do is have 3 Chelsea players and 2FT going into the blank/DGW. Thats it. People shouldn't worry about only fielding 7 or 8 players in GW33 as it simply means they can make up for it with extra DGWers. You'd still get the same amount of fixtures.

        1. Holmes
          • 12 Years

Agreed. BGW isnt an issue, going in DGW with only 6-7 players might backfire as most will be having around 10.
Currently have only 3DGWers(and that includes Bellerin), so in next 7GWs, I need to get atleast 6 more DGWers. Would have wasted 1-2FTs here and there if I didnt plan 😛

Will the WC help those who held on so much?
Most will have 3 Chelsea players by GW 34 and maybe a Leicester player. With 3 premium players benched on GW 33 like an Arsenal trio and 2Ft's to come there will be 8 players on a DGW in most teams and maybe 9. There will be players people will hang onto despite the WC such as Kane, Silva etc so where is the real gain for the WC?

There's a gain but if Chelsea blanked then it have been so much more.

Understandable but Mahrez could be a punt without too much risk.

Do you hate Ozil or you still think he will start?

I'd go for Ozil if for FT without doubt
