With a double Gameweek 31 just around the corner, we take time out to analyse Tim Sherwood’s impact at the Aston Villa helm so far. In terms of results, at least, it’s been a mixed beginning for the new man in charge – in addition to seeing off West Brom in the cup, Villa have won two and lost three of his first five league fixtures, scoring seven times in the process.

Bearing in mind that the Midlands side had notched two goals in the ten Gameweeks prior to Sherwood’s arrival, though, it’s fair to say that he’s improved their prospects in the final third. Shifting to a two-man frontline and bringing Scott Sinclair and Charles N’Zogbia out of the cold and onto the flanks, the new manager has transformed the fortunes of Christian Benteke and Gabby Agbonlahor, with the duo both scoring three times in the last trio of league fixtures.

As Villa prepare to face United and QPR in the next round of fixtures, we turn to the new team data in the members section to ascertain whether there is such as thing as “the Sherwood effect”.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

it's been pretty competitive last couple of seasons down to the wire..people make assumptions, but mathematically it's a different story..with a fully fit team I wouldn't count Liverpool out of winning the cup and finishing 5th at least

yes and now have no Skrtel, no Sturridge..and knocks (though some may be 'internationalitis') to Lallana, Sterling, Mignolet and Lovren which does not bode well when you still have a cup replay and still have Arsenal and Chelsea away as well as a couple other tricky ones..

not ruling you out, just saying there's a while to go..I wouldn't say even United are safe in top 4..

Statisically no team in Liverpool's position besides Arsenal in 2002 have come back from a 5pt deficit and got top 4.

Pool have had another good season. Tightened up at the back big time in the second half and played without a striker for a long time also, with 2 strikers on the bench 🙂

If Mignolet is out we're done. Our backup keepers (who are poor) are even injured.

it looked minor, looked like he was just tryign to get Rooney sent off (and it was a red card offense if you ask me..so petulant from Rooney..though not entirely out of character)

Great just when I wanted us to stop using the 3421. Looks like we'll continue using it. This is the lineup I think Rodgers will adopt. I would prefer Toure/Lucas in the side.

    Sterling
    Coutinho Lallana (!)
    Moreno Henderson Allen Ibe
    Sakho Lovren Can
    Mignolet

Moreno can't defend well as a LB and Johnson/Manquillo obviously aren't trusted by him. And would be have to drop Can?

Having now read more details about the injury it seems more serious than what would be caused by a tight clutch pedal. Poor guy. But the article I read was only talking about him potentially missing the Arsenal game.

Never knew that about Giggsy actually! Fascinating. Yeah, Sturridge has some serious problems with those leg muscles, stems back to an old injury when he was a youth player I believe but some folks are just destined for it which really sucks.

Thank you very much! I like yours a lot, very nicely put together 😀

Sturridge was my contingency plan if Aguero blanked again. Now it's harder to look past Costa, which means I'd have to lose my double Chelsea defence....

Kun would make life a lot easier if he grabbed a hattrick next week.

question, is it just the norm in the UK for all non-Man United fans to just insult/downplay the club more so than other clubs?

by no means are we playing scintillating football (better last two matches), but we've been top 4 consistently since mid November and still goes on..

my money is just on 'oblivious' banter..United could be 2nd place or top by a squeak and still get abuse, eh?

given Arsenal play Liverpool next weekend and Everton v Soton, Arsenal and Everton each winning or drawing and us beating Villa will go a long way

My cousin is a Utd fan so I don't hate them that much. And Scholes was one of my favorite players growing up secretly. There were a few others I admired at Utd too.

Arsenal is the easiest to make fun of but the Chelsea fans are taking that crown with their behavior lately.

United fans seem to have more 'glory hunters' than any other team because they won so much over the last 20 years. It's fun to wind those people up because they're not used to not being in the CL.

I've lived in Manchester as a City fan all my life, and I took a lot of abuse when we were crap so I feel obligated to show them how it feels!

          bothers me too..

I picked the club because I enjoyed watching Giggs play, fell in the love with the club when I read about the history and found out my grandfather was a huge Bobby Charlton fan..

Not really, the club got rid of Moyes, replaced him and now I feel they are in the same place Moyes would have got the club if he had spent the same amount of money. The club spent a ridiculous amount of money with no real aim at pinpointing specifics, the way Chelsea played the Summer market.

I accept though that insult is a tad too far but I don't think United get that more than other big sides.

everyone is allowed an opinion but I have no confidence that Moyes would have been challenging for top 4 no matter the money spent..the man seems a really nice guy and I'm thrilled that he's doing decently in Spain but I don't think he was good enough for United..tbh I'm not even sure LVG is good enough, but so far passable..

That's a tough one Rupert, Terry a shoe-in and if you buy Lescott, I'd definitely try to play him for the next three fixtures. (QPR, LEI, cry) Albeit I'm not sure if it's worth the trannie if he's out for just the one game tbh.

So it's really down to whether you want to diversify and play PvA, Terry, Berty, backing Sunderland defense vs a toothless Newcastle attack with no realistic target man/decent goal threat and play the more attacking minded Berty. Or, back Saints with the double up (and a good differential if it pays off), vs an upcoming Toffee outfit.

I think that with the former option, you're certainly playing it safe as I imagine that would be the template starting three for the top 10k. While the latter is definitely tempting because if it comes off, and Sunderland concede derby, you could make a decent amount of headway with your defense alone.
