Fantasy managers were handed a heads-up of a new double Gameweek afternoon after Arsenal’s home match with Everton, originally scheduled for Gameweek 29, was moved to Tuesday April 16, or Gameweek 33 to you and I.
The fixture change is due to Everton’s FA Cup progress at the expense of Oldham last night. The Toffees are now set to face Wigan in the Sixth Round a week on Saturday and with Arsenal facing Bayern Munich in the Champions League the following midweek, there was no room for manoeuvre within Gameweek 29.
While the rescheduled date means Arsenal definitely have a double, it’s not quite as straightforward for the Toffees. Everton have confirmed that if they beat Wigan in the cup, their Gameweek 33 tie hosting QPR will be postponed, as the semi-finals take place over that weekend. With the Arsenal game now set for the midweek slot in Gameweek 33 (it will be shifted to Wednesday April 17 if Everton win), this would mean a double Gameweek for the Gunners (NOR, EVE), a single for Everton (ars) and a blank for QPR.
Luckily, we only have until next weekend before the Everton-Wigan FA Cup clash but in the meantime, the double for Arsenal looks hugely favourable. Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla will already be earmarked as potential captains – Walcott has produced three sets of double figures at the Emirates to Cazorla’s two and is likely to get the nod by many, despite being 10 points behind the Spaniard in the FPL standings. Having produced 30 points between them in Arsenal’s recent double Gameweek 23, their potential for points is obvious.
