The Community Round Up

Despite double Gameweek selections dominating the chatter, the Fantasy Football Scout community were looking further ahead in the bid to grasp mini-league glory. Midfield options came under close scrutiny, as did the potential shuffle of Man City’s attacking options given the return of Sergio Aguero. We look back on those notable discussions and revisit the shout-out to some of our most helpful posters, whilst also catching up with the latest from the community’s tournaments.

The Hottest Topics

After a cavalcade of Gameweek 33 hauls from the likes of Steven Gerrard, Juan Mata and Christian Eriksen, the community were pre-occupied by the options available in the midfield leading into this weekend’s deadline. For HVT one or more of Southampton’s Adam Lallana, Eriksen and Arsenal’s fit-again Aaron Ramsey were key to helping secure a strong season run-in. Irish Madrista also focused on Eriksen as a pivotal player for the remaining Gameweeks.

With such an abundance of choice in the middle of the park and the schedule toughening for the popular third slot striker, Romelu Lukaku, we asked whether we could perhaps be witnessing the return of the “Power Five” in midfield. Established last season via the quintet of Gareth Bale, Mata, Theo Walcott, Marouane Fellaini and Michu, we’ve never quite seen the equivalent this time around, with a front three dominating. As the season draws to a close, however, there are some likely candidates pushing for inclusion with Mata, Lallana, Yaya Toure/David Silva, Eriksen and Gerrard all constructing a strong case for inclusion as the season draws to a close. Daniel was among those who welcomed the security this powerhouse of midfield players provides, although Qubit stressed that he just can’t see the pricey front three surrendering its grip on our squads over the final Gameweeks.

City’s Sergio Aguero is one player who could assure that cash remains up top. The Argentine returned to our thinking for the double Gameweek and saw action at Anfield today from the bench, with the potentially profitable midweek Etihad clash with Sunderland to come. Despite his return to fitness, Your Mum’s Athletic urged caution on acquiring the City hitman. He argued that Edin Dzeko could still offer a cheaper and effective alternative to the Argentine and with a potential 4-4-2 on show against the Black Cats, he may just have a point.

Potential investors in Mata were also being encouraged to consider their options. We underlined the fact that the United playmaker’s big points hauls have perhaps been aided by the freedom of central attacking role during the absence of one or both of van Persie and Wayne Rooney. We asked whether you felt that Mata could still be as effective should they both recover from injury, perhaps forcing him back out wide. Baines on Toast was among those concerned that David Moyes may struggle to retain Mata in his preferred role should his principal strikers return to fitness.

Those regularly name checked in our weekly round-up can deservedly consider themselves among some of our most helpful posters and, on that subject, It’s Only A Game thought it was about time those and others got some further recognition. His hot topic asked for the community to nominate their favourite good Samaritans. Among those to come in for praise were our team news guru Demi, Members table maestro Wakey and former Hall of Fame leader Evs.

Hooperman is another poster emerging as a vital contributor – particularly for those looking for the inside track on his beloved Norwich. Upon arrival of Neil Adams in the Canaries hotseat, Hooperman was on hand to offer insight on the anticipated teamsheet changes – nailing his lineup at Fulham. Keep an eye on his stuff next term if Norwich can salvage their Premier League status.

Finally, with just a few Gameweek’s left in the tank, we enquired on your remaining ambitions from the campaign and whether you still have some motivation to push up the ranks. With £400 in mini-league cash and “bragging rights” at stake, Kings of Lyon was certainly keeping his eye on the ball. Meanwhile, Yess the Sess chirped up to state his desire to claim a top 1,000 placing, an achievement he missed last season by the tiniest of margins.

The Community Tournaments

In HeelsOver Head’s Worst to First- 2 Million+ Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five Gameweeks, first placed Teltzham Hotspurs is up to 1,753rd . For the first time this season he has been joined by more than one other manager in the top 10,000. YOLO Toure rocketed up to 7,402nd after Gameweek 33 and Bales of Fury has an overall rank of 8,396.

The joint winner of Gameweek 33’s Scout Pick Challenge, which is loosely based on our own Scout Picks and has been created by @ocprodigy, were Suarezista and Beavis on 77pts.

In TorresMagic‘s leagues, Enzo the Baker topped his Last Man Standing League where eight were knocked out at the Gameweek 33 stage, leaving 17 to fight out the last four rounds. His FPL Open and Elite 16 are now down to the last 16.

DanyRex25 and our Sky expert D1sable emerged victorious in AZ’s FFS Non-Qualifiers Cup semi-finals. They are currently battling it out during Gameweek 34’s final for the chance to lift this coveted cup, for those that failed to qualify for our own recent Paddy Power Cup.

In the Fantasy Football Scout contributors and moderators league Spencer continued to cling on to first place after Gameweek 33, but only just with his limited transfers made giving him the edge.

          Was really itching for a hit. Not sure why. So Nasri and Baines was the lowdown. Got a pen and paper wrote Nasri, Baines, Play Vlaar I put them on a mug a bit of shaking then picked Baines for 3 consecutive times. 😀

          It paid off for him but Lambert. 😡

              It's between Yaya and Baines that time. Baines was sensible but Yaya has got me tinkering as he was almost not an option to others.

              Then before the lock in for UFPL I chose Silva and said to myself YOLO.
              Mixed emotions if you're playing both FPL & UFPL. 🙂

    I'm searching for differentials until the end of the season and this lot is what I came up.

    Differential XV (All below 10% on ownership)
    Speroni
    Evra, Sagna, Ward
    Mata, Nasri, Eriksen, Holtby
    Rooney, Adebayor,Bony

    Harper; Flannagan, Kagawa, Odemwingie

    What you think?

      Not sure I'd go anywhere near Adebayor after that penalty miss yesterday. That could be quite deflating to his confidence.

      Aaprt form CRY players and Nasri and Flanagan,

      Evra - terrible defender
      SAgna - Mind could be in PSG/Monaco
      Mata - Playing for little and could slow down because of WC
      Holtby - it's Fulham
      Roo - could still be injured
      Ade - rubbish
      Bony - Never a consistent FPL prospect so far (he has fixtures, anyway)
      Kagawa - Hardly finish 90 minutes
      Odemwingie - 73 points this year and that tells a lot

        Irrelevant if he's a good defender or not from an FPL perspective.
        Most likely not leaving the Prem + fighting for top 4.
        Mata isn't guaranteed to go to the WC so he can definitely not slow down.
        It's Fulham who are fighting for their survival and he's been playing very well recently.
        Could be injured yes but if not, great option.
        No need to comment on this, quite obviously not rubbish.
        Pretty consistent at home and Swansea fighting for survival.
        True but has been playing very well recently
        Stoke playing for nothing admittedly but he's been in good form.

          I'd prefer Jones or even Smalling if only after potential CS. No guessing for his attacking threat these days.
          There's a possibility. We're not offering his desired contract terms.
          Definitely maybe, that;s why I'm getting him 😉
          Yeah he's on set-pieces as well but options in midfield is wealthy now.
          Agreed.
          Eriksen is the man to get.
          We play FPL for both home and away games.
          Always prefer the nailed ones.
          Good from that never translates into FPL, poor him.

        I think with the run of fixtures for United Evra could be a shout with Kagawa & Mata could be as well as long as one of RvP and Rooney out. I included Rooney is he's fit btw. Yep, Ade could be deflating in confidence like Noisy Neighbor said but with the run-in of games he could do well I guess. Don't really rate Odemwinge but for those thinking of a Big 5 on mid could be a nice bench fodder. Holtby has been consistent in return though.

        Hard to find those below 10% onwership.

    Was planning on doing Snodgrass -> Mata this week but I've just panicked and got Eriksen instead. No injury concerns apart from my Southampton GKs (might just play with no goalie if Boruc doesn't recover)

    Now I can afford Boruc -> De Gea next week and Ward -> Jones the week after. Man U's defence is the way to go imo, in their last 6 games vs teams outside the top 3 they've conceded just one goal.

    About to sign off but just a thought......triple Man Utd defence for 36/37 and going with 4 or 5 at the back? Triple United and double Chelsea for GW37 means 3x SUN, 3x HUL (who have the FA Cup to care about) and 2x Norwich.

    I wasn't around earlier during the drama of the City/Liverpool match. I was way too busy biting my nails and pulling my hair out with my eyes glued to the broadcast. I just want to say congratulations to all the Liverpool fans. You've been waiting a long time for a victory of that magnitude. I wish it had not come at the expense of my boys in blue, but at least it was an epic battle. And despite a couple of poor officiating decisions, no City fan can deny that we still had our chances to win it and just couldn't quite get it right. Oh, if only Silva had gotten half his foot on that Aguero pass instead of 1/3!

          I've thought more about this. I think a lot of bitterness between people, and not just here but in society as a whole, is due to rampant lack of empathy. It seems to be something that my generation (I'm 43) failed to pass down to the one after us.

    So 4 people above me have 2, 4, 2,1 differentials respectively. 3 of them have Baines as captain the other had Lukaku. They have a lead of 10-20 pts.

    Then there's me Yaya (c) with 1-2 differentials. 😐

    @Noisy Neighbour

    "Cristiano Ronaldo recorded the highest goals-to-games ratio to win the (Golden Boot)award, scoring 31 goals in 34 games in 2007–08 for a rate of 0.91"

    Suarez already beat CR7 in that manner (0.965 now). With Norwich and NEW to come, I think he'd be the first player to score a rate of 1. Amazing stuff.

    Assuming he gets ruled out for the rest of the season, who are people replacing Yaya with?

    I already have Silva so I think Eriksen or Mata is the way to go.

    Currently leaning towards:
    GW35: Yaya -> Eriksen
    GW36: Puncheon -> Mata

    Although if Hazard is confirmed for then maybe I'll go:
    GW35: Yaya -> Hazard
    GW36: Gerrard -> Mata

    Thoughts DZ?

    I'm ok saving my FT with the following team right? I know Yaya will be a mass exodus if confirmed out but I'd only be bringing in Mata and I think that can wait a week given he has Everton away. Gerrard is an option due to the likelyhood of getting Pens vs Norwich but is that game as easy as it looks on Paper? Liverpools MF without Hendo will be a slow plodding one with low energy. Sturridge looks broken and Norwich have shown to be solid at home when they want to be. Not to mention the pressure getting to them could make that game a low scoring one. That be said :

    Gazzaniga

    Baines, Terry, Azpilicueta, Flanagan, Ward

      I toyed with the idea of Kun, but I think it has to be Suarez. He has a ridiculous record against NOR and if Sturridge is out then he's got fewer to share the goals with.

      Also, if Kun plays 90 on Wed then he may not get 90 at the w/e.

    Dunno about you guys but current Suarez hasn't looked anything like the one who was putting 3 past teams a few months ago. His dribbles have looked slightly sluggish and ineffective. Could it be that defenders are starting to clock onto his one trick of trying to nutmeg then by dragging the ball to their feet which use to be planted in a wider stance? Even Sturridge looked dull and hasn't had the telepathy betweem him and Suarez lately. This could be down to the amount of games/ pressure of the title chase/ standard form dip/ varience but they are slightly off.

    Never thought I'd say this but Pool are gonna miss Hendo alot. His energy and drive help their MF tons and now we have to interperate how that will effect their output. Norwich haven't been in great form lately but they managed to keep City out at home and had a nice run going before things got shakey. Suarez/pool have done well vs them in the past but they have never been in this spot before. City and Aguero have done this before and they have the luxury of playing at home. Don't see how Suarez is the snap (c) when you take everything into account.

    Hey guys, any pointers?? Dont like taking hits but looks like i may have to take -8 this week. 1FT, 0.0 ITB

    Mannone (Marshall)
    Coleman Baines Azpi (Ward, Bardsley)
    Hazard Yaya Silva (Noone, Mata)
    Suarez, Dzeko, Lukaku

    Wanted to ship Baines after their DGW but Haz and Yaya injuries are more prominent.
    Thinking Yaya, Haz and Dzeko >>> Eriksen, Lallana, Aguero

      Wow, another Bergkamp in the block.

      Baines can wait. Sort your midfield first.

        Dennis the main man!!

        Yer cheers guys, think i'll pull the pin now as Eriksen and Aguero going up, yaya injury looked like he'll miss a few, lose a heap of TV on haz and yaya but with only a fews weeks it matters little.
