Our World Cup coverage moves onto Group F now as we cast an eye over one of the favourites for this summer’s tournament, Argentina. Alejandro Sabella’s side kick off their campaign against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Sunday June 15 at 11pm before facing a couple of opponents that are likely to earn them plenty of Fantasy investment – a showdown with Iran on Saturday June 21 at 5pm is followed by a game against Nigeria four days later at 5pm:

Road to Qualification

Sabella’s side cruised through the CONMEBOL group, winning nine and drawing five of their 16 fixtures. Finishing two points clear of Colombia at the summit, they scored more goals (35) than any other South American country during the qualifying period and with 15 goals against, boasted the second most impressive backline. After losing their second match to Venezuela, Argentina then embarked on a two-year unbeaten run in the group before tasting defeat at the hands of Uruguay in their final fixture – by then, though, they had already booked their place in next month’s tournament and fielded a number of squad players in the 3-2 loss.

Most Starts Sergio Romero (14), Angel Di Maria, Lionel Messi (12), Pablo Zabaleta, Gonzalo Higuain, Javier Mascherano, Federico Fernandez (11), Ezequiel Garay, Marcos Rojo (9), Fernando Gago (8), Sergio Aguero (7)

Most Goals Lionel Messi (10), Gonzalo Higuain (9), Sergio Aguero (5), Angel Di Maria, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Maxi Rodriguez (3)

The Key Targets

The South Americans’ form has been patchy over the last few friendlies. Goalless draws with Nigeria and Romania bookend a 2-0 win over upcoming opponents Bosnia back in November, where Sabella shifted away from his preferred 4-3-3 formation and rolled out a 5-3-2 set-up, with Sergio Aguero grabbing both goals.

In defence, Pablo Zabaleta and Marcos Rojo (priced at 6.1 and 5.8 in FantasyiTeam) are the regulars at right-back and left-back respectively. The latter is utilised as a centre-half by club Sporting Lisbon and notched four times in the league last season, and whilst Sabella’s counter-attacking approach restricts the full-backs attacking duties, Zabaleta is perhaps the likeliest of the two to forage forward due to Lionel Messi’s tendency to drift from his starting position on the right of the front three.

Ezequiel Garay and Federico Fernandez are the first-choice centre-half pairing in a four-man backline, though Sabella occasionally used five at the back for tricky away ties, bringing in the likes of Hugo Campagnero or shifting Javier Mascherano out of midfield into defence. Garay, at 5.9 in FantasyiTeam, scored six times for his club Benfica last term and carries a strong attacking threat.

Along with Mascherano, Angel Di Maria (7.2 in in FantasyiTeam) and Fernando Gago (priced at just 5.7) make up the central midfield three – the latter is fielded on the right, with his distribution to Messi further up the pitch key to quick transitions. Gago is still struggling with a knee injury sustained last month, however, whilst the Real Madrid man arrives on the back of an excellent campaign – he produced 17 assists and four goals in a similar role for Carlo Ancelotti’s Champions League winners.

Having scored 28, 17 and 17 goals for their respective clubs in the 2013/14 league season, Lionel Messi Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Aguero all offer Fantasy managers strong options for the group stages. Messi is afforded the freedom to roam from the right and also has spot-kick duties to further his appeal – 10 goals in 12 starts over the qualifiers are indicative of his recent form for Sabella’s side. Higuain is the most advanced of the three and is fielded through the middle, with Aguero positioned on the left of the front trio – those two set you back 9.7 and 10.3 in FantasyiTeam, with Messi the most expensive at10.7.

The Long Shots

If Gago fails to fully recover from his ongoing knee problem, Ever Banega looks the likeliest to benefit. Available for 5.3 in FantasyiTeam, he started four of the last six qualifiers and, looked upon as an able deputy by Sabella, could sneak under the radar.

Up front,Ezequiel Lavezzi is far from certain to start but, as FPL managers know too well, Aguero’s tendency to pick up injuries is a very common occurrence. A role on the left of the front three would suit the PSG frontman and if Sabella chooses to manage the City man’s minutes, Lavezzi – classified as a midfielder in in FantasyiTeam and priced at 7.1 – could thrive in the latter parts of matches against tiring defences.

The ones who don't play for Korea 😉

Seriously, avoid. They are nothing like the 2006 team.

Their first 2 games are OK though and they're super cheap. They'll play as a unit rather than a bunch of individuals so they could be good for a cleanie.

        😆 top answer.

@Joga: most of here can't name a korean defender. Have you checked the article on South-Korea? Tells quite a lot that 3 of the predicted first XI ain't even in the squad and the captain is omitted. Not much expertise on them here. All I can say, is check the lineups from their last qualifiers and friendlies and pick a name you see there a lot.

Plus, I don't know if he plays in defence, but Suk-Young certainly sounds worth a try. 😉

I was born in the 70s, two decades on from the 50s. My kids were born in the 2010s, two decades on from the 90s. (I'm stretching things a little because of early/late decade births but it's close enough to be scary)

What would you suggest is the better workout split for muscle gains. A 5 day split exercising a different muscle group each day, e.g. Mon-Chest, Tues-Back, Wed-Legs, Thurs-Shoulders, Fri-Arms. Or a 3 day full body split. E.g. Mon-full body, Wed-full body, Fri-full body. Or any other split you can suggest?

Okay, isolating.muscle.groups.is.key so stick to compound movements. Break it down to a different area per day like above but try to mix it.saviour.development doesn't stagnate.

                  For example

                  Monday - Legs
                  Tuesday - chest and back
                  Wednesday - Shoulder and arms
Thursday - Core building (medicine ball drills etc)
                  Friday - Cardiovascular

Don't just do weights by themselves all week. Also, eating is.just as important. Cut out any refined cards like white bread etc and.go for.wholemeal or natural alternatives. Also eat lean protein like fish, chicken. You should be aiming.for.roughly 2g of protein.for.every kilo.of bodyweight

Oh and weight training.should last no longer than 45 mins. After this time your body production of.cortisol increases meaning it would be counter productive to carry on after

Hiit is better for the results mate, also means less time.spent in the gym with the same results. Any machine, 3 mins at 60/70 percent then flat out for 1 minute. Return to the 3 minute routine.and.continue this pattern.as long as you.can

Not an expert but I think focusing on different muscle groups each session of the week is generally better than full body workouts.

There shouldn't really be an arms day as such, more like a chest/triceps days and a back/biceps day.

5 day split exercising different muscle each day is the best in my opinion.
Best advice I've ever got though is to keep your muscles guessing.. if you want real gains you can't go through the motions, muscles will only grow by being tested with new patterns.. just through in extra sets, vary intensities and weights and just mix it up a little.
5 day split though, best of luck.

It depends whether you want to simply get big or to get slightly less big but look more in proportion. Separating your muscle groups will help you gain volume quickly but you'll bulge in some areas and not others ;).
It also depends if you're taking a long term view ie full body or short term ie individual muscle groups to look good for a holiday.
              Remeber to stretch afterwards.

Well I'm taking a long term approach. I want to put on muscle all over, but I'm not looking to get huge and bulky, just want to be lean and more muscly than I am currently.

I'd suggest a full body approach then. You can vary your sessions more according to how much time and energy you have and by being able to very the exercises and muscles exercised more can result in you're metabolism being higher with a slightly cardio effect existing in workouts (if you can switch muscle qgroups quickly enough safely), keeping you lean too. If you're skinny and struggle to put on muscle I wouldn't worry about this last point though as exercise always burns lots of energy and is great for you.
On a persoanl viewpoint the trend of the last few years has been to move away from simply 'getting big' to having an all round athletic look of balanced strength and fitness, which if you also like will be best satisfied by all over workout programmes.

What I hate most are Russian lunges. But they are definitely one of the most successful.

Also, burpees, suicide drills, and good old pressups.

The idea though, is to mix things up, so your body is always working out what to do next.

Please note this is still draft so would be happy if anyone could tell me if they think any of it is wrong or can fill any gaps. Its open for comments if that helps people raise anything.

I used this more recently for the definition of whether someone was nailed on or not (Great Work by the way)

Might have to edit Hernandez again dude. Appears he's not as nailed on as i perceived. Unlikely to start games at the World Cup as he's hardly figured for United and not scored for Mexico in over a year. Peralta is pushing him out. Will most likely be used as an impact sub it seems.

Parmtree probably needs to change his Mexico predicted lineup too, not sure what source he took it from.

I would guess Peralta or Dos Santos on pens but not sure. Somebody will probably know!

Latest from Guillem Balague on Cesc

    1. He has not agreed anything with Chelsea. His agent did not meet Wenger lately (haven't spoken for a month)
    2. Barcelona have told Cesc he has to find a team. They want the money to buy Koke. Cost: 35m euros
    3. Arsenal don't want Cesc back and he has been told that already by Arsenal
    4. He is being pushed out by Barcelona but will take his time to find the right club for him

not sure you can say it would be greed anymore. Maybe a few years ago when they were paying top dollar for players and not winning things. But they have now won the Prem twice and are in the CL for the past 3 years.

tbh it doesn't matter. Systems can change or be adapted. The point still stands, it shouldn't be seen as greed anymore.

In one week I have seen:

Fabregas not for sale. Fab regal being pushed out.
Fabregas to Man U. LvG doesn't want him.
Fabregas to Man city. Man City aren't interested. Fabregas and Aguero swap.
      Fabregas to Chelsea.

      All almost certainly pure conjecture.

My first crack at a WC team this season for the FOX Sports game. How is this looking so far? Threw it together rather haphazardly so some advice would help 😉

    Ospina - Courtois

I just registered for the Fox Sports game and it appears to be exactly the same as the FPL game we're used to so might stick with that one but will probably have a McDs squad as well

Since the beginning of 2012, Japan played 32 games and conceded 1.375 goals on average and kept 0.281 clean sheets on average. Pretty rubbish considering the teams they mainly played.

Christina's stats suggested Greece have very few shots on target.

Uchida was great in the UCL fantasy this year.

Well, Brazil players at least. You will have 3 transfers to use to get rid before their blank in gw 2. I doubt Mexico players will get much from their 2 fixtures.

Panic. Where do I start? Haven't been keeping up with the news and haven't even got a draft for my WC team yet! Saw the McDonald Fantasy WC website, with days to go left. Has anybody already registered their accounts? Were you able to view the fixtures yet since team selection is not available yet?
