The close of the season is proving a time of reflection for our community, as our writers and posters look back on 2014/15 and ahead to the next campaign.

We analyse the unlikeliest stars of the last 38 Gameweeks and also assess whether Chelsea can maintain their strong form into next term. In addition, we also find out who emerged victorious in our community tournaments and present some key attacking statistics in our Members Table section for those looking to steal a march on next season’s best forward prospects.

The Community Articles

Just days after the end of another Fantasy Football season, our dedicated community writers were busy analysing 2014/15’s key events and statistics as well as getting some early preparation in for next season.

Ludo has been taking a look at some of this term’s most reliable point scoring players to help target Fantasy Football gold for next season.

Meanwhile, Ruth NZ has started his regular series of articles looking at key teams’ prospects for next year. First up is his look at Chelsea’s remarkable campaign. He is also asking for Manchester United and Arsenal fans to help out with two of the next articles  in the series.

For some, the final Gameweek of 2014/15 proved one to savour, while for others it was one to forget, as our final Rough with the Smooth of the season revealed.

Finally, for fans of American Football, Daniel Levy was on hand to introduce the NFL Fantasy game, which opens its doors over the summer.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

For those keen to look in depth at the season gone by The 3rd Turd announced his latest round up of key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) data and You Must Be Jokin Ere took a look at bonus allocation, which revealed that 2014/15 was a great year for midfielders.

One group of players that transcend facts and figures are those cult heroes who defy the odds to bring in surprise points hauls. Kricky is for Kinnear has been canvassing the views of the community for their favourite surprise stars and can now reveal the full line up of his cult XI of the season. A community article, which will analyse each player in detail, is planned during the summer and looks like one not to be missed.

The community’s favourite moment of the season was the subject of Chris White’s discussion earlier this week. Among events listed was Harry Kane’s demolition of Chelsea, which caught many of us by surprise.

This proved to be one of very few blips for Jose Mourinho’s side on their way to securing the Premier League title. Understandably, the champion’s players are set to be among the first names on many of the community’s 2015/16 team sheets, according to our discussion looking ahead to next season.

No summer break from Fantasy Football would be complete without some early speculation about player prices. Fatherted was amongst the first to dust off his crystal ball and take a look at possible inflation for some of this season’s stars.

The Members Tables

For those keen to look in depth at the season’s best attackers my Attacking Players table can now be sorted by All Matches to reveal those who delivered the most shots in the box during 2014/15.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

Congratulations to the Bangledesh team, who won the FFS UEFA group’s team tournament that is based around the Cricket World Cup. They beat Australia in the final 501-475. The FFScout moderators and contributors dominated Sri Lanka side, which also boasts the 2014/15 FPL winner Simon March in its ranks, won the third placed play off against India 460-446.

A Gameweek 38 score of 52 saw Mark snatch first place from Greenwindmill by six points in the FFScout moderators and contributors league. There was better news for Greenwindmill in the Long and Winding Road main league. He clung onto first place, despite a late charge by Simon Walsh, who finished second.

Toon Army won Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season league and finished the season with an overall rank of 33. In Red Lightning’s FFS January Wildcard League Brian scored 1,183 points over the last 18 Gameweeks of the season to claim top spot.

The FFScout picks won this season’s Scout Picks Challenge, which is organised by OFCProdigy and sees the community look to better our picks. Mookie was the closest in second, while Milanista, Walsh and Sticky Mockwell were joint third.

Finally, a shout-out to AZ who is looking for Xbox One owners to join his FFS Fifa tournament.

Just checked my Sky team for the first time I set it up preseason. I am guessing a ranking of 615578 isn't that great on there?

I did a rough team quickly prior to FPL opening and never changed it. It isn't pretty. Some odd choices in there I think moistly trying to accommodate some other odd choices. RVP what a odd selection

I totally ignored the Daily Mail game between November and last weekend. I've just checked my rank, I'm 1086th. That's crazy, I haven't missed a FPL deline all season, and finished just inside 80K.

True, I finish 13th and 14th in the Metro European Game in consecutitive seasons, it had decent cash prizes and only a few hundred entries.

How does the Sky captaincy work then? Looking at the rules it looks like you can change your captain once a week (week being Sat to Fri).

So, say one weekend, on Sunday morning, you change from a player playing Sat to another player playing Sunday - is that your one change for the week - so that is the player you are stuck with as captain for the following weekend? Unless you change it again on the following Saturday, but then you have lost your "free change" for the Sunday?

    1. John t penguin
      • 11 Years
      10 years, 11 months ago

You can change it with a transfer also
So if you transfer out your sat captain you bring in a Sunday captain then you could use your captain swap for Monday night game if you want. Sure this is how it works.
Obviously you need to think how it impacts the following week. If that captain isn't playing again till next Monday then you need to use cap swap for sat and can't then do it for Sunday without using another transfer.
Disable really explains it well each week, even if you don't follow his players, the structure is still helpful.
Maybe scroll back through articles and read a couple of his and it will give you an idea

Yeah, seems to be how I thought. Cheers. So you really have to think about what day teams are playing? So, I guess the best scenario is a good player who is playing Sun/Mon and then the following Sat?

Correct. Unless you use a transfer of your captain to another player. However it often means you will want another transfer to get that player back and there aren't many transfers to play with like that.
Some weeks you have to accept you will only have one captain to ensure decent captains the following week.

Personally I think this part of the game is overlooked Ilf and leads to high maintenance.
The amount of sleepers in the sky game is enormous, even when costs wax (i) he was still (c) by close on 20%

I think you have to get lucky with injuries and is important to choose the right players in August. A lot easier in FPL to fix your team than it is in telegraph I've found

On the Motherwell sites there are loads of rangers fans giving abuse, which seems stupid considering we beat them. They must know they are just going to get laughed at.

When you say own money what do you mean? He doesn't have any of his own money. People complain about benefit scroungers but his family commit the biggest benefit fraud of all of them. Plus they should have to pay the bedroom tax on all their mansions. Just think how many homeless people could be taken off of the street and housed in one of their many castles they cannot possibly fill all year round at the taxpayers expense.

They do not own all of GB but they do own a fair chunk which they will receive rents for. But should they have a right to do so? Also the queen gets £36 Million a year from the taxpayer.

I just think they should come to an end and their wealth should be distributed and they should stop being a burden upon our society.

Hey, I'm not here to argue the merits of the monarchy.

I'm merely pointing out that *legally* the Royal Family / the Queen owns all of GB.
And, £36 Million a year a year is pretty cheap rent.
Christ, just last year a penthouse in London went for £50 Million.

                > But should they have a right to do so?

                Well, I don't know?

If they *legally* own the land then shouldn't the citizens of GB have to purchase it from them?

The Royal family do not own the whole of the UK. Many people own land and houses etc not just them.

Buy back assumes it was bought by the royal family in the first place. They have no real right to any of their land beyond battles thousands of years ago followed by hereditary rights. I just don't agree with it on that kind of scale. There are generations of people who will never be able to own there own home where they come from (such as Cornwall) because the royal family own it all.

I wouldn't see them in the poorhouse they just have far to much.

I'm not worried about who bought the land as most land on this earth was gained through conquest & subjugation of an indigenous population.

I'm talking about who holds the title & at this point it's that inbred German family in Buckingham Palace.

So, regardless of our feelings towards them it's a slippery legal slope we're on if all of a sudden the land's just not theirs anymore.

I got my torch & pitchfork at the ready, if you're down for a revolution too! 🙂

So even if it wasn't rent, that £36 Million to keep them afloat is a pretty good return on your investment.

People come to see old buildings not them specifically. I would not get rid of them. We will still have the history without the ongoing burden

That just isn't true. It assumes that if the Royal family was gotten rid of then nobody would visit those historic sites anymore. That's just nonsense...of course they would. They visit the Tower of London and the like because it's an historic site, not because Queenie is sat in Balmoral on any particular day.

I see the costs were paid by the taxpayer and most of the money went abroad. If the rest of the world wants a monarchy they should contribute towards our one. They all get the benefits of a fancy event without the pricetag.

                        Rubbish...

The tourist authority VisitBritain predicts the wedding, a worldwide TV event, will trigger a tourism boom that will last several years, eventually pulling in an extra 4m visitors and some £2bn for the country's coffers.

In the short term, the accountancy firm PwC estimates the influx of wedding watchers delivered a £107m boost to London, as hotels, West End shops and restaurants picked up extra trade.

Absolute poppycock...The top paragraph has no validity whatsoever and the second one simply means that some pubs and restraunts in the West End got a bunce for the weekend instead of people spending money elsewhere....But that's typical of Royal apologists...London benefits...

Nobody with a bit of luck. They could maybe spend some time at Tate Modern or The British Museum instead.

The "Not Royal Family" should have gone the same way as the rest of the Hapsburgs and Saxe-Coburgs in 1918... to the dustbin of history after they sat back and watched Europe tear itself apart.

Point one. really don't know but that doesn't mrean it shouldn't happen. Our politicians aren't exactly top notch.

Point 2. I do accept they do do some good. But lot's of people will have the opportunity to own their own homes for the first time. A huge amount of property will be available for sale and we can stop funding them as well. The additional mortgages etc from the sale of the newly available properties will collect revenue as well. Money will be coming in from it not just going away.

He doesn't seem to be willing to fit in with LVG's philosophies, so he's dumped on the bench most of the time. Think he's taking too many risks with the ball for LVG's liking. If United can get a decent price for him they should probably cut their losses and sell.

He's definitely got philosophies - he's written a book about them! He couldn't implement it fully this season due to imbalance in the squad (which he's mentioned several times!) obviously not helped because he had the World Cup most of last summer.

He prefers players who will do what he wants them to do rather than just picking people on reputation / name / price - as Di Maria has found out, with more unfashionable players like Young and Fellaini doing better as they we're performing the role asked of them.

He went and adopted a far more physical, long ball approach with Fellaini playing and utilising the likes of Mata and Rooney around him, personally I don't think much of LVG, mainly because he has a habit of falling out with people.

The signing was more about a statement of intent more than anything else, it showed the club were going to continue to spend and compete, whether its worked out for ADM or not doesn't really matter.

Almost early twenties. 35 to be precise. Free movement of people and trade was a great thing when it was brought in. I almost don't think we can come out of the EU. I live in Scotland and as a nation we would be very against it.

I think he will get something on benefits. Some of those objectives will be very hard to get an agreement on within the EU as they are contrary to the basic aim of it. It will be interesting to see but I hope something sensible comes out of it all and we remain. At least Merkel seemed receptive.

Not saying some changes couldn't be made. But as a whole it is a good thing imo. Do we know what Cameron is trying to get? I think all he wants is people to pay money into the pot before they can start taking benefits really. Which seems reasonable enough

Why is it ?...If you moved to work in France or Germany would you not like to be able to have the same rights as people who already live there ?...The trade off being that people who move the other way can do the same...(don't forget as many Brits move to Europe as Europeans move here)

I don't think we should get immediate benefits in another country, no.

Then don't be surprised when you find it harder to live and work abroad that it is now... Much harder...The old saying about "don't throw the baby out with the bath water" was never more apt.

I just think that when it is so easy to move to another country and get benefits without working then that country will be flooded. whatever the country. I am all for free movement, but those that can work, should, and those that can't, should be supported. The current European legislation doesn't support this.

Why do you think that people who move to other countries don't work?....How many European immigrants to the UK don't work?

Oh I know many work, and that's fine, I'm just against the people that come here without working, and claim benefits from day one. Like I said I love free movement.

FWIW you are using a sample of one to extrapolate out what it takes to be a good player. Jonty plays a similar game as well and I'm sure there are others who I'm not so familiar with due to not being on scoutcast or writing a blog.

I'm not sure how many players in the world you would consider to be top players but players like mark and Evs and even jinswick despite his community consensus approach play more of their own game which sometimes but not always correlates. I play this way too.

My overall point being agree that consistent good performance is clearly not luck but there are more ways to achieve this than just covering the masses.

There is obviously more to it than just covering the masses.

The article was mainly for those at FISO who have been studying the leaders of the hall of fame and were keen for any insights into how their thinking may differ from the majority of players. I was just trying to analyse my own play to try and be helpful for them.
Whether im the best judge of my own style is another matter

Na. Oddly enough I'm not a massive football fan. Would more likely go to an All Blacks game or Cricket game.

I ahve tickets for the chch semi final. Havent bothered with tickets for the others as they very unlikely to be sold out, can just pop along when in the mood. Tournament so far has been rather underwhelming. Interest might pick up if NZ can sneak through

Yeah this tourney barely registers on the radar for the everyday kiwi. I'm still baffled that we have been given the right to host it considering no one really appreciates the tournament outside of the occasional hardcore football fan.

The semi's and final should be interesting though.

Probably a backhander for our representative giving the world cup to south africa a few years back. especially as the local body had told him to vote for the european option

Not too many different from mine. Matic/Fabregas, Milner/Lampard, Mason/Lloris and Pelle/Clyne are all close enough.

Just as an Arsenal fan, I think Monreal has been our best and most consistent defender of the season, and also the most improved player.

Alright, I'll give it a go.

        Chelsea: Eden, Courtouis, Costa
        City: Silva, Aguero, Toure
        Arsenal: Ozil, Caz, Sanchez
        United: Persie, Rooney, ADM
        Spurs, Lloris, Eriksen, Vertonghen
        Liverpool: Sturridge, Stevie G, Balo
        Saints: Schneiderlin, Tadic, Toby
        Swansea: Williams, Gomis, Siggy

Not really for this season as I suspect that would be the mostly similar for everyone. So I just listed the 3 best players I think are at these clubs.
