The Big Numbers – Gameweek 3

We turn to the Opta data next for our regular post-Gameweek check on the top performers over the weekend for members.

A host of midfielders catch the eye this week, with assets from Liverpool, Spurs, Leicester and Stoke all impressing. The growing influence of Burnley’s playmaker is also highlighted as we also check in on Manchester City’s left-back debutant at the Vitality Stadium.

            Then you picked astonishingly well. I understand the logic of the old snake rotation but I would still rather have Kane and then have to wait 15 turns then what you and I had to settle for which was, in my case, Alli being the best available player.

              I have no clue how gust left both Firmino & Salah till the 10th round.
              I got lucky and got both.

              But my squad is getting thinner because of Zaha & Sandro

    Repost!

    How's everyone's opening weeks gone so far? For once I've had a good start owning Firmino, Pogab and Bailly, and adding Mkhi once Zaha got crocked as I'd kept a 1.0m contingency fund. No Lukaku, but these guys have covered him for me.

    Three week's of Kane(c) fails is harsh though. I'm at 426k and could have been top 250k easily I'm sure with a goal or two.

    Anyone in the top 100k so far?

      Casuals have had a flying start in my MLs.

      With avg of 50 points a week I'm 1.6m and chasing in my MLs by 40 points.

      Not excellent yet by any means. Also been unlucky with Kane but luckily have only captained him once. Lukaku bringing in the points but no Liverpool attackers has been the real blow...

      At 40k playing 442 and Lukaku Jesus up front (will get Kane on WC soon probably) 3 out of 4 defenders have delivered every week so far.

      Not well. I captained Jesus in GW1 and Lukaku in GW3, the exact opposite of what I should've done. Started GW1 at 1.9 million, and somehow due to the incredibly low rank I've only got green arrows so far - to 1.7m in GW2 and 1.6m in GW3 😀

      Mostly happy with my team though so can chalk it down to bad luck - Fabregas red card and taking a hit to get rid, getting Davies for Bellerin instead of Jones etc.

      really bad , due to a number of injuries and players not playing i was forced to wildcard last week , and out of 3 captain picks so far i earned a grand total of 4 points lol , on the plus side i feel my new wc team is pretty strong so hopefully it wont take too long for my luck to change

        496K OR.

        Positives: Defence (Foster, Bailly, Yoshida); Captained Lukaku GW1+2; Got Mhki after Zaha injury; Mane bringing points every week.

        Negatives: Daniels (benched GW3), Ritchie, KDB (switched to Eriksen now) and Kane.

        Overall pretty happy. Base of my team is solid.

      Haven't been able to catch any of Carroll's performances unfortunately - it seems like he has delivered a steady stream of 2/3 points as expected for a 4.5 mid. It will be interesting to see if Llorente returning will impact his output.

      Any indication he could get some attacking returns soon/against Newcastle?

      I read few posts and articles about WC and prices.

      First thing about playing WC is do you really need it? As we can see price changes are very slow and one of the reason is, if I'm correct, that WC doesn't affect prices. So there is no sense to WC now if your main reason is to get price risers. Second thing is that we have not enough data yet. Transfer market is still open so some late transfers may change the look of PL starting elevens and we will get proper info in next 2-3 GWs. Than there is UCL/EL factor. We don't know yet what players are going to be rotated, how often etc so again - we will get more data after at least one UCL/EL game. Next thing is - Kane/Lukaku. Many loose at least one of them on their WC and spread the money so if for example Kane explodes and score a brace next game everyone will make at least one hit to get him back as soon as possible cuz price will go high very fast. I'm sure thet if Lukaku would have score that pen everybody would keep him for 100%. So basically there is a big risk that using WC now will make more bad than good for our teams and only thing we get is maybe (with some luck) about 0.3 for 2-3 players with double rise.
      Next international break is perfect for WC (assume that our team is quite ok and one hit will do the trick especially with KDB money there for many of us). Price risers may be much higher as most already used their WC and we will get much more data about things that I write above. Also what if we want Hazard too who is about to back? Getting him AND for example Kane back (or other expensive player) basically means hit galore big time! Loosing player like Kane is ok IF you still have WC or leave some money itb. Otherwise it's just too risky.

      I'm not saying that WC now is bad for everybody because some can really need it but MOST knee jerk it! Sorry for RP but I wanted to add few things.

      1. Netley Lucas
        • 8 Years
        6 years, 8 months ago

        Fair points mate. For me the lack of risers perversely helped me decide to wc. See, it was almost as if you were getting 3 weeks of info on form for little more than their starting prices, if that makes sense?

      2. Make Arrows Green Again
        • 7 Years
        6 years, 8 months ago

        I think a key fact that people are overlooking is that we selected our squads based on GWs1-6 fixtures. It's was one of only three free hits we get all season long (well, now we have the free hit chip so it's four!). Still, we all picked our squads for six weeks and many of us are changing after three? It doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I appreciate that there are underperformers and overperformers but broadly, points have been scored where they could reasonably be expected to have been.

      People going with double Liverpool (Firmino + a mid), arent y'all worried about potential rotation?
      Liverpool play 7 games from 09th September to 01st October
      Manchester City - PL (09 Sept)
      Sevilla - CL (14th Sept)
      Burnley - PL (16th Sept)
      Leicester - EFL Cup (20th Sept)
      Leicester - PL (23rd Sept)
      Spartak Moscow - CL (27th Sept)
      Newcastle - PL (01st Oct)

      Surely with Salah benched against Palace, Klopp gave us an indication he might rotate the squad plus Liverpool are potentially signing another winger too.
      Are y'all risking the rotation policy, expecting the big guns to start and going with double pool for total bonanza or staying wary and going with a single Liverpool attacking asset?

      Thoughts?

        Salah isn't as important to the team in my opinion. Firmino is the engine and pulls the strings. Him and Mane are fairly rotation proof.

        Risked the rotation policy from the start. Salah and Firmino. Think Firmino will play every game except EFL Cup. Salah more of a risk, but with 23 points over 3 games, one of which was a cameo I'm willing to take the risk (have a playing bench)

          Salah was unlucky to not score off the bench against Palace, he couldve had 2 too.
          I think Salah is the best FPL asset from Pool based on his performances and getting into goal scoring positions and stuff if not the best player in that team. Firmino doesnt have the same threat from open play as Mane and Salah. But that price and pens make him an attractive prospect

        Also LIV next 4 out of 6 games are away to ManC, Leicester, Newcastle & TOT. Home to a resolute Burnley & ManU.

        I have Salah only for now.

        nah not at all ..... you could see when salah got benched he came out for a bit and played like a beast for the time being, only reason they won that game.
        also if you got a playing bench well so be it, then carroll comes in for salah or abraham for firmio its not the end of the world
        but they are more likely to return points imo.....

          This may be the case when Liverpool will be catching up. But if the score will be on their favour he may be used as a tactical 90th minute sub...

            Think they're more likely to bring on Gomez or someone for a minute. Why risk someone you're resting, even if it's only for injury time? Can't imagine Salah/Mane coming on and not running around manically

        Of course I'm far from being sure, but I can't help but feel that Firmino is one of those players with huge stamina and he will play almost every single game... May be withdrawned around 75th minute mark, but will start most of them... That's why I'm not sure if I won't end up with him being my only pool player...

      I have 0.8 to spend on my WC team.
      Where should I put it?

      A) Salah -> Mané
      B) Cedric -> Bertie
      C) Foster -> Pickford

      Thanks!

        None, bank it or spend elsewhere, Foster, Cedric & Salah are all good.

      What to do? 2FT 0.5 ITB
      De Gea
      Danilo - Daniels - Yoshida
      KDB - Ritchie - Tadic - Salah
      JRod - Lukaku - Kane
      S: Elliot - Carrol - Hunemeier - Mee
      Looks like have to get rid of KDB, Tadic, Danilo? When Mendy is back?
      Kane is dropping again..
      Thanks, beeing one week on holiday so little bit out of squad.

        yes they are.. but you need the player to hit target and pass 100 to rise or fall nothing even close yet due to wild carding....

            You're definitely banking on huge improvement for him/Arsenal. He looked fairly threatening in the first gameweek against Leicester at least. I'm giving him another week because of the fixture, but I'm not confident.

      De Gea Elliot
      Hegazi TAA Suttner Stephens Hunemeier
      Mkhi Salaha Ritchie KDB Carroll
      Kaku Kane Tammy

      1 FT (0.6 ITB)

      Was thinking of KDB to Alli and TAA to Naughton, leaves me with 1m ITB. Thoughts?

      Tempted to save 2FT before GW5 and play a mini-WC:

      Alli -> Atsu
      Quaner -> Firmino
      Jesus -> Kane (-4)

      Then I will play 4-3-3 with Atsu/T. Carroll/Atsu as 3rd mid and
      Kane/Lukaku/Firmino up front.

      Good plan?

        I'd be a bit wary about selling Alli, but I guess it's possible that Kane starts to hog the points and that he stutters.

      Am planning the following tfrs for GW4 for a 4 point hit::

      KDB out, Salah in
      Jesus out, Morata in
      Gabbiadini out, Firmino in

      My habit is to tfr as late as possible but am worried about further price rises which would scupper the above plan totally.
      Do people like these tfrs and should I act NOW rather than wait until Sat week. Any thoughts/opinions?

      Over the whole season, which will score better, personally thinking pool

      Double utd (Kaku and Mkhi/Pog)
      Double spurs (Alli and Eriksen)
      Double pool (Firmino and salah/mane)

        I think doubling up with 1 striker & 1 midfielder is preferable to 2 mids so either 2 Utd or 2 Pool.Think Utd's trio likely to play more games than Pool's so overall would plump for your 1st option.

        But as Hot Fuzz rightly points out it's too early to make a confident call.
