After being substituted in the 53rd minute of Tottenham’s 2-0 victory over Liverpool last Sunday, Rafael Van der Vaart – who also scored the opening goal in the match – has confirmed that he is suffering with a stretched calf. The influential midfielder has stressed that he will do all he can and battle on to prove his fitness ahead of the final game of the season against Birmingham at White Hart Lane.

Connecting with fans through his official Twitter account, the Dutch international made the announcement:

“Stretched my calf a bit last Sunday against Liverpool but will do everything to make the last game of the season!”

Van der Vaart holds a very healthy Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership (27%) and, with his early withdrawal at Anfield, those managers – including 8 of the top 10 FPL – will have been anticipating an announcement. Today’s news will be met with a mixed reception however. While Van der Vaart seemingly has a chance of figuring in Sunday’s game, he could also miss out entirely or have his pitch time cut considerably once again.

Even though he has been considered a doubt since the victory at Anfield, media silence on Van der Vaart’s situation, together with his reputation this season, has seen him climb to fourth in our Captain’s Poll with 10% of the vote. A home clash against a faltering Birmingham offers potential profits and the Dutchman is understandably a leading contender for the armband. Van der Vaart has been in FPL staple for many a Manager this term, fetching a tally of 165 points which includes 13 goals and 9 assists.

For many this final gameweek could prove crucial and, with Van der Vaart holding such a prominent place in a high number squads, his situation over the coming days will need to be monitored carefully – the midfielder’s appearance on Sunday looks likely to have major significance to our fortunes as Fantasy Managers and those of Birmingham City. Check out our Twitter stream for all the latest.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

A night in the cells, up in court next morning (or Monday morning if weekend) and then fined and released.

    someone pointed this out yesteray

    Bolton last six home games

    W 5 D 0 L1 SCORED 12 CONCEDED 5

Man c last 6 away games

    W 1 D 1 L 4 SCORED 5 CONCEDED 11

Add in that city will be tired with third game in a week
and even sturridge looks a better option than tevez

so even if man c win it not likely to be by much given they have avergaged less than one goal per match during the last six.
Tevez fans will point out that this coincided with his injury

Against this is that bolton are the ultimate great home team and shite away

Wow, Modric 231 successful passes in the opposition's half in his last 5 games. No-one even comes close. Bit late on noticing the bandwagon but very tempted if we hear DVD is out for the Brum game.

I thought that too but with his new found confidence, he seems to be playing more advanced - he's leading the charts on key passes too with 14. Just seems Spurs can't take their chances.

I can't see Brum playing an expansive game so Mdric is bound to dominate possession and attract BPs.

    Mignolet (Foster)
    Fabio Dawson Luiz (Jones Cahill)
    VDV Kuyt Lamps O'Hara Toure
    Rooney Odemwingie (RVP)

    1) Should it be Odem (supposing he's fit) or Bent out for Tevez?
    2) Which 2 defenders should I play from Huth, Lolarov, Simpson, RJ?
    3) Schwarzer or Foster? (coin toss, I suspect...)

I am NOT looking forward to this weekend. Got a 5 point lead in cash mini league, but he's got much better defence for Sat. ONLY differentials (in whole team) at the moment=

    HIS: Smalling, Dawson, Simpson

    vs.

    MY: Walker, Jokerlov, Shawcross

Going to need to bring in and potentially captain someone he doesnt have.

    Current front 3 of:

    RvP, Suarez, Sturridge

He can’t get Tevez without a hit, whereas i can. That said i think Berba (c) could go wild this weekend...esp as i think B’pool will go all out attack again.

I realise this is a popular topic...but would love an opinion on my particular situation.

Not sure your defence is that much worse than his. Who would you dump for Tevez?

I really want Berba, Tevez and Nzogbia in my team this weekend.

RVP Suarez Maxi to Berba Tevez Nzogbia

I really dont want to get rid of RVP but chasing and opponent has him, am I mad getting rid of him and in that case should i just get either Berba or Tevez?

That Capital 1 card advert above the comments is doing my head in, not helped by the fact I constantly scroll across it with this LT.

He's so camp and disinterested...it's quite hilarious.
"ooooo, I'll say" is his personal fave, that's when he bothers to talk, which is every ten minutes at best, a true hero.
