Sunderland have this evening confirmed the transfer of John O‘Shea from Manchester United. The defender joins up at Wearside on a four-year deal, with the fee undisclosed.
Following just hours after their capture of Wes Brown, the deal completes a busy day of business for Steve Bruce, with the Black Cats boss snapping up two experienced defenders from his old club as the rebuilding process shows little sign of slowing down.
O’Shea’s versatility will give Bruce options in both full-back positions and the Irishman even has central midfield experience under Sir Alex Ferguson. The 30 year old was delighted with the move, saying:
“Once I’d heard reports about the club and the people here, the ambitions and what the manager was all about it was the only place I was going to come to.”
A double Scout Report on the prospects of both Wes Brown and John O’Shea and their likely effect on the Sunderland starting XI is already under progress and will follow shortly.
