As we all likely know by now, Fantasy Premier League (FPL) have granted unlimited transfers to reassess and fix our Fantasy outfits ahead of Gameweek two.

Given such freedom to pick and choose new teams as we please, Fantasy managers should be ready and willing to select a captain who will come out of the traps kicking and screaming.

David Silva topped affairs last week and fortunately did voters proud – the problem was that the Man City playmaker was one of only a small handful of players to score points in this low-scoring Gameweek. Here’s a few we think might top affairs come Saturday morning deadline…

Fernando Torres

There was something a little different about Fernando Torres’ display last Sunday. Despite failing to score in the nil-nil draw with Stoke, there was a Joie de vivre about El Nino’s game- he looked hungry and livelier than ever before in a Chelsea shirt and hinted at a return to the form of old.

A home tie against West Brom -a game in which Chelsea scored six goals last season- offer the perfect platform for Torres to spread his wings and fly. Fingers crossed it doesn’t prove a false dawn.

Similar Alternatives: Frank Lampard, Florent Malouda

Wayne Rooney

Rooney is already off the mark this season. Netting at West Brom from open play, Man United’s star forward carried forward his sparkling pre-season displays as the champions opened their account with a win.

A home game against Tottenham isn’t going to be the top fixture on paper to attract investment, but United are deadly at home- they dropped just two points at Old Tarafford all last season. Throw in his spot-kick duties in addition to his overall good form and we envisage there will be a fair few handing him the armband for the final fixture of the gameweek.

Similar Alternatives: Ashley Young, Luis Nani

Darren Bent

The Aston Villa hitman is one of those strikers you buy for a season and not just for Christmas – he’ll have lean weeks but, as the years have shown, will get you the points on a regular enough basis.

A home match with Blackburn Rovers tied into a belief that we think his chances of picking up bonus points could see an increase under the new EA Sports PPI Index, suggests Bent is looking a good proposition for Gameweek 2.

Similar Alternative: Charles N’Zogbia

Leighton Baines

Everton were the other side unable to take part in Gameweek 1. Fortunately, unlike Spurs, they won’t be facing the reigning champions- instead they play host to a QPR side still licking their wounds from a 4-0 battering at Loftus Road last weekend.

Despite a 8.0 price tag hanging round the neck of Leighton Baines, last season’s top-scoring FPL defender has shown he’s clearly capable of producing the same points returns as the majority of midfielders; 5 goals and 11 assists in 2010/11 attests to that.

His forays up and down the left-flank will prove vital for the Toffees and up against a recovering Kieron Dyer (or Bradley Orr), Baines will favour his chances. He’s also a dab hand at set-pieces.

Similar Alternatives: Louis Saha, Tim Cahill

Alternative Alternatives

Grant Holt – A kind first home fixture for a penalty-taking captain of this newly-promoted side.

Scott Sinclair – Remove the club captaincy and we’ve got a rinse and repeat case of the above.

Steven Fletcher – The Wolves striker has been all about goals when given time on the pitch. He now seems more secure and will be hosting Fulham.

The poll is now hot off the presses and awaiting your votes, as you can see we think the strikers are going to rule supreme this week – but who are we to know? The evidence of your accumulated clicking fingers will tell us in a couple days time exactly where favour lies.

I am going to go with Toure over Silva in a few weeks time, if Nasri does join City, he will no longer be the "one and only" creative guy buzzing around the top. Toure is such a force for City, he is not as easily replaced in my view.

If you're talking about Dyer at Swansea, he's a winger .. so attacking. If you're talking about Dyer at QPR, he's an injured right back, so not attacking.

I am done tinkering until late Friday night.

    Given (Vorm)
    Cole//Kompany//Enrique (DeLaet)(R.Taylor)
    Downing//Sinclair//Hoolahan//Larsson (Moses)
    Rooney//Torres(C)//Suarez

.5 in the bank for whatever transfer I need to do.

I am going to see how Man City do away, and see then where Aguero fits in to everything. I know the midfield is weak, but I like having set piece guys at least, and think Larsson & Sinclair will be guys to keep around. Downing should have lots to aim at at Arsenal and is my back up cover for not having the big man in Carroll, and obviously Suarez should do well against the Arsenal rear guard.

Have the .5 to upgrade Cole to Baines if I feel like it, but, having been burned by Jagielka and Everton's leaky defense so much last season I am not convinced they can do a "3rd times a charm" and start this season with a blast where the last 2 seasons they were very slow starters, I know there is nothing stopping them from starting well, but I am willing to adopt a "wait and see" approach where I think other players will score better or at least equal to Everton boys this weekend.

          Hi Johnny,

Thought you may have had silva for some Citeh attacking coverage??

I did have Silva, and then I downgraded to Toure, and now I fancy Downing in the next couple over Silva and Toure, want to see how things work out Nasri and Aguero and Tevez.

I am very tempted by Bent and N'Zogbia, but I think Suarez has more of a chance of scoring with the support players in Liverpool, whereas Bent I feel has less support in a more defense minded Villa team. Tough decision, I am set on Torres punt and Rooney for season, Suarez and Bent change every few hours on my team, I just think Suarez has a great chance of scoring big this weekend in what will be a very traumatic few weeks for Arsenal I think.

    Hi guys,

I am thinking aguero and possible price rise. we can assume that his ownership will be huge at start of gw2 - is that good or bad thing considering possible price rise?
What I mean is, if ownership is high, you would assume that 0,2 price rises in one gameweek seems unlikely.

    Yes or no?

    Cheerios!

the problem is that the price rise works with net transfers in for the game week. as far as i know fpl will be resetting all the transfers made this gameweek, therefore aguero will need alot more people to buy him, after the gameweek 2 deadline, in order to go up!!! and i think if he dosent dio well for the next 2/3 gameweeks people will sell him fast causing his price to go down!

      thats my understanding!

Price rises are the same across the board - ignoring protection etc... and are not dependent on how many initially own the player.

So even if 500000 people own one player, it will take the same number of net transfers in to cause a price rise of 0.1 than for a player owned by just 50 people. (assume around 35K at start of season dropping to 20K by end of season)

However, price falls are based on the ownership. Hence a player owned by 500000 will need a hefty transfer out to drop by 0.1 while the 50 player would only need a few...

      Hope that helps

    Given (Vorm)

    Bosingwa Baines Kompany

    Malouda Silva Sessengon Moses

    Rooney Bent Holt

    Bench: Senderos, Simpson, Ferguson

    Plus opinions on following points:

    1. rooney for RVP in gwk 4..hopefully RVP drops in price

    2. a lot of people have richards but i think he’ll be heavily rotated so sticking with Kompany

    3. Aguero part of a rotation nightmare until he’s fully fit – will jump on bandwagon if he starts in next match

    4. Will suarez keep getting penalty duties? I dont think so – is his selection justified with Liv fixtures? Same goes with Enrique..when was the last time Liv kept a clean sheet?

    5. Ferguson as last sub is a must have i believe – i have barely ever used my last sub and he will go up in price when ppl transfer him in to get other big names into their squad.

    6. Lamps – wish i could have him but Malouda will not be rotated till Sturridge is back – then whole new ball game.

    7. Everyones forgotten about Bent – he actually did score but it was disallowed..fantastic finish though..he will be hogging all the goals for a.villa.

    Cheers guys

I wouldnt risk Drogba. Get Saha or Zamora who have good fixtures. Then upgrade Bosingwa to Cole.

A Cole Kompany Brown (Senderos, De Laet)

    Silva Moses Sinclair Nzogbia (Jarvis)

    Rooney Torres Saha

Any thoughts? I think its pretty balanced but criticism is welcome.

Everton: Saha out after hit by stiff breeze, Arteta out due to lack of physio table pratise.

Tottenham: Midfield out. Freidel in squad, but damn ugly.

Was thinking Baines and Brunt.. Will play Graham or Holt over Brunt this week and Brunt after that. He already got an assist and bp's that is good with this new system making him bpts magnet.

Torres captain for me this week. My new way of choosing captain is to check which one of my players is favourate with the bookies to score in their games.

At least i have someone else to blame other than myself if it goes wrong.

I have to say, ratehr than getting identicle teams, the way the scored panned out over the weekend and the fixtrues we've got are leading to some interesting debates; which Chelsea attacker, which combo of big forwards, which Everton player. All good stuff.

Agreed. Also, once normal transfer activity is resumed, transfer options will be sensibly limited, so debate/selection should widen further. All good fun.
