[sbu_large_image] Spot the Differential

After waiting all season to jump in the Rolls Royston, I had the Dutchman all written up as a Differential and the mouse hovering over the ‘confirm transfers’ button only for the inevitable red card to ruin my Everton-related Differential dreams.

Growing up as an Everton fan does prepare you somewhat for footballing disappointments, so despite having to throw that one back in the pond for another week, I managed to pick myself up in time to fish out another three for you to chew over. As we continue our countdown to Gameweek Ten then, it’s time to look over the Scout Selection Committee’s Differential picks for this week…..

James Milner

With such a rich source of midfield talent available, rest and rotation is a big problem to anyone considering investing in Man City, particularly with their Champions League involvement to factor in. Against all the odds, though, it is James Milner who looks the most rotation proof right now. Nothing is guaranteed where Roberto Mancini is involved of course, but Milner is the only attacking midfielder to have started all of the last three league matches, and as Samir Nasri and Adam Johnson both started in the Carling Cup tie on Wednesday, it’s pretty clear where he sits in the pecking order at present.

A look through the FPL statistics for the season throws up a lot of unexpected results; if you work it out on a ‘per minute played’ basis then Milner has a better EA PPI and overall points return than David Silva, and has also picked up more bonus points. Priced at just 7.5 to Silva’s 10.2 and owned by just 2.4%, Milner could prove to be a huge differential over the next few weeks then, and considering City’s goal scoring form, he looks like an excellent source of fantasy points.

Somen Tchoyi

After a poor start to the season, Roy Hodgson’s West Brom side have looked much improved in recent games and after two solid wins on the trot, they will be full of confidence going into their home tie against Liverpool.

Before last week Hodgson looked settled on a Peter Odemwingie and Shane Long front line, but with a knee injury set to keep Long out for 6 weeks, he will almost certainly draft in a ready-made replacement rather than try to change their formation. Somen Tchoyi is the obvious choice to replace him up front having already played there in pre-season, and priced at just 5.1 in the FPL game and classed as a midfielder, Tchoyi looks great value.

In many ways, Tchoyi is the definition of a differential. He’s cheap, has low ownership and as a midfielder playing out of position, he should provide excellent value for money over the short to medium term. Four home ties in next six, including games against the struggling Bolton and Wigan should more than make up for a tricky trip to Arsenal next week, so if you’re looking for a cheap fifth midfielder then Tchoyi looks as good an option as any right now.

Hugo Rodallega

If you take a look at the current league standings then you’d be forgiven for dismissing Wigan as a source of Fantasy points; they sit joint bottom of the league after six defeats on the trot, and have managed just six goals all season. Thankfully there’s more to it than that; the Latics have looked much improved in recent weeks, and will consider themselves very unlucky not to have picked up a result against Bolton or Newcastle.

Home ties against Fulham and Blackburn as well as a trip to Wolves in their next three should give then plenty of chances to pick up goals, and with the return to fitness of Hugo Rodallega they’ve finally got someone who can put the ball in the net.

With 11 attempts on target against Newcastle (that’s more than Man United, Chelsea, Tottenham or Arsenal last week) it seems incredible that they didn’t get more from that game. Although Rodallega didn’t get on the score sheet last week, he looked sharp in front of goal and gave Wigan an edge that they’ve been missing in recent games. Priced at just 6.0 and with an ownership of 1.9%, he could prove to a decent differential over the next few games.

I wouldnt for one week. But im seriously considering it and then getting RVP back in for Ade the week after as i think thats the strike force i want going forward and thats the most sensible way to get it, no point in potentially missing out.

    Wildcard team, views most welcome:

    Vorm, ruddy
Wilkinson, clichy, k walker, simpson, brown
    Silva, VDV, anderson, tchoyi, walters
    RVP, Aguero, sturridge.

I know clichy is expensive but I’ve had him since the 1st wk and he’s been one of my best defenders. Can’t think who else to get in a similar bracket for long term. Is anderson likely to get starts? Is my mid strong enough?

Been falling behind in my mini league so I played my wildcard this week. Any suggestions for changes?

    Vorm (Begovic)
    Brown, Assou-Ekotto, Kompany (Enrique, Simpson)
    Ramsey, VDV, Silva, Nani (Tiote)
    Bendtner, RVP, Sturridge

My only thoughts for changes are Assou -> Walker, Ramsey -> Walters... maybe lose the Newcastle players, except I need a defender (Simpson) for next week.

HAHA. The way I see it, theres a massive change in fortunes for many teams in GW11. I brought in 4 players who have super fixtures instead of 4 with very tough fixtures. Three of the players will hog penalties and set pieces and are clinical in front of goal.

Over the course of the next 4 weeks I think they will out score the 4 out by far more than the 12 points I expended tonight.

It also means I am not going into GW11 worrying about all the transfers I need to make to get rid of bad players, instead I can focus on the top players I need to bring in.

May make 1 more transfers before the deadline.

Nani, Suarez, Bosingwa and Cabaye out

Yeah, but Chelsea have been pretty leaky this season. Interesting to read on Zonal Marking that Chelsea have conceded the least amount of shots on their goal in the Premier League so far this season. Indications maybe that clean sheets are on the way.

We have him in our Predicted lineup but we’re far from 100% that he’ll start. We’re certainly more certain that RVP will start and that he’ll cause plenty of problems for a Chelsea defence that has struggled to keep goals out. We don’t need to say anything about RVP’s form.

On Aguero – which game is he more nailed on to start – home to Wolves or away to Villarreal?

Nailed on for both? Perhaps – but with Mancini’s options, do you not think he’s looking at a 4-5-1 in Spain meaning that Dzeko and Balotelli could both start tomorrow? He must feel he can beat Wolves with one or both of that pairing and Silva providing the bullets. Why risk Aguero from the start when he surely feels he needs him more for Wednesday night? I see him as a likely starter against Wolves having been left out in midweek. Nailed on? I can’t be that certain.

The way i think of it is he's City's Rooney. Utd never leave Rooney on the bench (apart from when something crazy happens like the contract wrangle or euro ban), they do the old early take off when the game is won.

Stirkers need time on the pitch to maintain match fitness and keep their eye in, If he doesnt play today Aguero will only have had 74 minutes of first team domestic football since the 1st of October come the Villareal game

        He will DEFINITELY start

Also, I am captaining him, AND I am going to the Etihad from London to watch the game so if he doesnt start look out for me on Match of the Day storming across the pitch to the dugout to scream at Mancini "Bastardo, Bastardo, mama mia BASTARDO!!!"

He's had a calf injury and passed a fitness test for wed. I think he is still in TP first 11 but a risk with fitness. I wouldn't spend points on it. For a freebie maybe but Huth may be sharing the right-back position with Wilkinson, albeit Wilkinson is getting the nod in the here and now

4 point hit which i'm not a huge fan of for defenders, but i suspect kompany will make up that difference pretty rapidly, + stoke > wolves.

Can't decided whether to play 3-5-2 with Moses or 3-4-3 with Zamora?? Any advice?
    Thinking of going Moses.

    Team is

    Vorm (Given)
    Barnett, Kompany, Walker (Enrique, S.Taylor)
    Moses, Walters, VDV, Nani, Silver
    RVP, Bendtner (Zamora)

I think I'm happy with my team overall, just need a tiny bit of advice:

    Begovic (Vorm)
Woodgate, Walker, Enrique (N. Taylor, Simpson)
VDV, Silva, M. Petrov, Ramsey (Bannan)
    RVP, Rooney, Sturridge

    I'm vexed again. 😉

Do I play a double Stoke defence, but realise that if Woodgate doesn't play then N. Taylor comes on, or do I trust Swansea's home record and play Vorm and N. Taylor vs a poor Bolton?

If I do the latter, then should I sub Simpson for Petrov, play 4 in defence, and hope for a CS for Newcastle too? i.e Stoke 0 Newcastle 0.

Or maybe get rid of Bannan for Pilks and play him this week and then rotate him with Petrov (poorly)?

1 FT and 0.9 in the bank. any suggestions welcome.

Because I think the Stoke have a better chance of a clean sheet, and JMS just posted the latest Stoke news that said that Woodgate is available for Monday.

I don't think he'd have said that unless Woodgate was going to play.

I can't see Woodgate starting so N Taylor will be coming on for you anyway. Getting rid of Bannan probably makes sense - we've no real idea when he'll be back in the Villa fold - he's hardly a certain starter when in favour.

Have you got rid of Bosingwa Mark? I can't decide what to do with him or who to get! Jones and Richards would be ideal but both are rotation risks. As for Walker, 2 spuds is all i can stomach!

Can't say...Granville could be watching and it would give my trannies away. Jones looks set to start at Everton given the news reported on Smalling. Richards also looks to be Mancini's right-back in the league so seems fairly safe.
