Arsene Wenger warns of Christmas rotation, while Mick McCarthy talks tactics. Roberto Mancini reckons there’s no way back for Carlos Tevez at Man City and Jack Wislhere is ready to step up light training ahead of a January return:

Arsene Wenger had plenty of injury news to reveal this morning. On the positive side, Marouane Chamakh is available for the weekend, though given his game time, he’ll likely warm the bench at Carrow Road tomorrow lunchtime. Abou Diaby is back to full training after recovering from a long-term ankle problem, though Wenger had some full-back problems ahead of the trip to Norwich. Kieran Gibbs is out for 4-5 weeks with a hernia problem, while Carl Jenkinson has a stress fracture of the back and will be rested. Given Bacary Sagna is also out, Johan Djourou seems the likeliest to fill in at right-back.

Further good news for Wenger came from Jack Wilshere. The midfielder has yet to play in the league this season for the Gunners due to an ankle injury but revealed on twitter yesterday that he has now ditched his crutches and is expected to start light training imminently, with Wenger reckoning he is on course for a return in mid to late January.

The Arsenal boss has also given Fantasy managers advanced warning of his plans to rotate his players over the winter period. Citing last year’s busy Christmas period, Wenger explained he will utilise his squad to a greater extent this time round, with a busy schedule on the cards:

I will certainly rotate more because we have to face so many games. I think it was last year at Sunderland that we changed 10 players because we played three days later at Manchester City. Everybody asked me why I did it but you have to rotate at some stage and that is why we have a big squad.

Sir Alex Ferguson revealed Ashley Young is back in the Man United squad for the champions’ trip to Swansea. Chris Smalling is out but could return in midweek for the Champions League game with Benfica, while Tom Cleverley should be sidelined till around Christmas time, with his ankle injury more serious than first anticipated.

Roberto Mancini was quizzed, once again, on Carlos Tevez in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game with Newcastle. With the Argentine AWOL in his homeland, the City boss, when asked if he reckoned Tevez would play for the club again, admitted:

I don’t think so. I know he is in Argentina. I don’t know what he is doing.

Cheik Tiote has been ruled out of Newcastle’s crucial trip to Man City tomorrow. Alan Pardew confirmed the player still hasn’t sufficiently recovered from a knee problem and while he sang the praises of Danny Guthrie ahead of the Etihad trip, there’s little doubt it’s a bitter blow. Pardew went on to say that the Ivorian could “possibly” be available for next week’s game with Man United. Newcastle will have to do without Sylvain Marveaux until the New Year– the winger limped out of the previous gameweek with a groin problem and is set to go under the knife to resolve the issue.

Reports this morning suggest Steven Gerrard could miss the next two league games for Liverpool as he continues to recover from an infected ankle. Though Kenny Dalglish admitted his skipper was “progressing brilliantly“, the games with Chelsea and Man City look like coming too soon. Jamie Carragher is available for selection ahead of the trip to Stamford Bridge this weekend but with Liverpool recording back-to-back clean sheets in his absence, Dalglish has a quandary on his hands.

Asmir Begovic received the backing of Tony Pulis yesterday after a recent loss of form for Stoke. The Potters keeper was culpable a couple of time in the 5-0 defeat at Bolton but his manager made it clear yesterday that he is fully behind Begovic, denying suggestions that he is considering cropping the player. With (QPR, BLA) to come, it’s a welcome relief for his Fantasy owners.

Mick McCarthy talked tactics yesterday ahead of his side’s trip to Everton. The Wolves boss admitted the recent 4-5-1 formation gives his side a more solid feel and gets the best out of Jamie O’Hara- backed up by the former Spurs man’s goal and pair of assists against Wigan in the previous gameweek:

Whenever I change the system there is so much made of it. For the first three games we were 4-4-2 and everybody is like: ‘we were brilliant’ and it’s all 4-4-2 which is the answer and the way forward. We conceded some really poor goals and it was nothing to do with the fact we had a couple of wingers on the pitch. The other system does make it harder to be beaten and doesn’t leave us as wide open. It gets players in better positions and gets Jamie further forward who is as good a finisher as anybody is.

Scott Dann and Michel Salgado gave Blackburn boss Steve Kean plenty to cheer about, with the news that both are fit and available ahead of the weekend trip to Wigan. Skipper Chris Samba is “very close“ to returning from a hamstring injury, according to the Rovers boss, who will be without Simon Vukcevic, after the midfielder suffered a broken nose while on international duty.

Neil Warnock revealed some interesting thoughts on Adel Taarabt’s future at QPR. The Moroccan is unlikely to feature this weekend due to the last week’s international commitments but Warnock elaborated:

He has been away with Morocco, so he probably won’t be involved this weekend. It has been difficult to get Adel into the system we are playing. We have also changed our tactical outlook since last season. If Paris Saint-Germain offered £20million, I’d drive him there myself!

Stephen Kelly will miss out this weekend for Fulham, after picking up a groin strain on international duty. With Zdenek Grygera also injured, Martin Jol will be relieved to welcome Aaron Hughes back to the first-team fold- this allows Chris Baird to move to the problem right-back slot, with Hughes likely to slot in alongside Brede Hangeland for the trip to Sunderland. Philip Senderos is also available, though according to the Cottagers boss, Steve Sidwell has an 80% chance of not playing, after a hernia operation.

Paul Lambert delivered some positive injury news ahead of Norwich’s game with Arsenal. Both Russell Martin and Bradley Johnson has recovered from knocks and are available for selection, while centre-halves Zak Whitbread and Daniel Ayala are both back in training.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Is it worth having Lamps and Sturidge in one team? Then both must score/assist....

Is there any reason why you prefer benching Klasnic? He has an easy game (away though), did well last week.

Is moving Petrov out for a 4 point hit worth it? (otherwise I'd be playing Sinclair)

My options are anything up to 6.5 (this would be Sessegnon, Walters or Drenthe)

Well Im likely to ship Bos and Petrov out for Brown and Drenthe, so I'd have to say yeah it is worth it.

Brown rotates very nicely with Simpson and Petrov is unlikely to play anyway - may as well have another starter on your subs bench, just in case.

Exactly what I'm considering. Already done Bos to BAE and Petrov hsa to go. I'd say its worth a hit and any of those are good. My preference is Drenthe. Sess could be good, but I prefer Larsson and he's suspended.

I've similarly done Bos to Baines already this week.

Worried about doubling up on Everton at this moment, if they hit form Drenthe will definitely come in for the DGW.

It's a tough one, pretty much comes down to how sure I am that Sess/Drenthe will score this week compared to Sinclair who I think will get 2...

I look at it this way Petrov will get between 0-1 most weeks for a while. Over four weeks even Moses can make up on that hit.

Drenthe and Sess and Walters can make up that difference within a week.

Is Aguero to Roon worth a 4 point hit this week?

I'm thinking of making that move in 3 weeks anyway, but since Aguero is more likely to be rested atleast once in the next 3 games (compared to Roon who had a 2 week break), I'm thinking of pulling the trigger now. Plus welbeck is out, so Roon should be playing up front. What say you?

One way i try to look at these choices, when its not immediately obious what the best thing to do is....What would annoy you more this weekend:

      A. Aguero scoring well after you xfer him out
      B. Rooney scoring well after you didn't xfer him in

Pick the lesser of 2 evils. If you stick to that over a large sample size you will avoid more frustration

I have neither... But am looking at replacing suarez with one of them next week. Probably rooney. I still have some stubborn nagging doubt that aguero pehaps is due a few quietish games + the temperture drop will surely be ashock to his system, maybe increasing likelihood of injury/loss of form.

Then i look at his points per minute and it is just absolutely ridiculously good. Can he sustain it?

The thing is all the ManC strikers receive superb service: Silva, Nasri, Toure, Barry, Milner, Johnson: all very good providers. Therefore, they must continue to score goals. And I believe Dzeko and Ag are ahead of Balo and (sic) Carlos.

My pick out of all that would be:

Thanks. I just rechecked Eagles' fixtures and somehow had imagined better ones for the next 3 weeks. A pity because his cheapness was very attractive. Drenthe is very intriguing but don't know if I have the balls to pick him.

WAlters - mr reliable at hom, great fixture on pens....long term not so great, plus Stoke's euro hangoever has to be taken into account
Drenthe - flashes of brilliance, capable of a big score, not fully there yet - the choice of the risk taker.
EAgles- his future game week scores are as follows 10,2,10,2,2,2,15,2,2,2,2,2,10 etc.. He will either command the game or do nothing...a burnley fan was on here recently warning not to expect a killer performance from eagles every match.

That's realy, useful, cheers 🙂 Walters is the 'safe' option I think but I just can't trust Stoke to score many goals. I also heard a rumour that he's back in midfield but can't find anything on that.

I think Eagles and Drenthe are going to be the same sort of player, huge scores when they perform but lots of 2s, with Drenthe having better fixtures. It's a real puzzler.

Right hang on. Dzeko played 180 mins for Bosnia yes. Ballotelli play 180 mins for Italy yes. Right these games were on Friday then Tuesday. We are talking like they played these games in 24 hours. What is the difference to Rooney playing 90 mins for united against Chelsea on a saturday then 90 mins for united against Juventus in Turin on a wednesday would we expect Rooney to be rested for the 3pm kick off at home to Newcastle would we hell. This is getting well blown out of proportion. The only one at risk imo is Aguero due his long flight and Jetleg despite his minimal involvement.

agree but mancini says he sees it as a 'problem'

‘We have a problem with 4 players who played 2 full games and players like Zaba and Aguero who got here yesterday and are tired. This is the problem after an international break but no one’s injured so that’s the important thing’

they all trained today though so its anyones guess

Rooney is a very poor example to use - he very rarely gets rested because he rarely looks tired.
If Hernandez had played twice whilst Welbeck had played half an hour who would you say was more likely to play? If Aguero trained today I doubt jet-lag is affecting him.

You're forgetting that City play again on Tuesday which would mean 4 games in roughly 10 days for both Dzeko and Balotelli, that's why Aguero is most likely to start as he has only played 45mins in these past 2 weeks.

I'm gonna stick with Dzeko, cheapest way in, could still get game time and score/assist. If he doesn't play, my bench will have to be strong enough to cover me. If it's not strong enough, I'll blame Mancini, not myself obviously 😉

Its a massive lottery, because people thought Aguero would be rested the other week because they had a big CL game, but in the end he started in the league and didnt in CL so their really isnt a pattern to it. Everyone is just guessing.

Bringing in one of these for Tiote this week

1)Drenthe (Is he a sure starter in Evertons squad?)
    2)Walters
    3)Eagles
    4)Brunt

Which one is best to bring in?

For the next 2 weeks maybe walters, but if you're going more long term, probably drenthe. If you actually have the transfer to spare, I'd do walters first and then drenthe, because there are still some questions marks about drenthe's playing time. Watch for a couple of weeks and then take a call.

I was thinking long term. Drenthe is who I was leaning to but his playing time is what worries me, and if he starts all the time. Walters short term may be the way to go.

The bookies say swansea are more likely to keep a clean sheet than newcastle. I'd go with Naylor. Can't rely on attacking points from a defender, you have to go for the one with the best chance of a clean sheet.
