After yesterday’s Premier League bonanza of eight games, today we have to settle for just a single fixture. It’s a potential cracker though, as Chelsea take on Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. The Dugout Discussion opens it’s doors for the short shift, and the team news is in…

Chelsea XI: Cech, Ivanovic, Luiz, Terry, Cole, Ramires, Mikel, Lampard, Mata, Drogba, Malouda.

Liverpool XI: Reina, Enrique, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Lucas, Adam, Kuyt, Maxi, Bellamy, Suarez.

The headline news concerns the names that don’t appear on those team sheets. Three players that cost their respective clubs a total of over £100m in 2011 all feature on the bench. Chelsea opt for Didier Drogba over former Liverpool star Fernando Torres, and Liverpool leave out Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing in favour of Craig Bellamy and Maxi Rodriquez.

Elsewhere, David Luiz and Florent Malouda get the nod ahead of Alex and Daniel Sturridge respectively.

Join us in the Dugout Discussion chatroom to follow all the action.

tempted by dzeko or balotelli...may not play, but when they do they tend to get nice scores.

Probably go for Klasnic...great fixture and form,....but chico is another tempted.

We are looking good this season, I think we will qualify for the Champions League and certainly win at least one trophy this year. I'm confident the people at the club know what they're doing and I think there are no major changes needed to the squad, we've definetely got a competant manager at the helm. The players are playing a style which they are comfortable with and is right for the Premier League. Mikel is a good player and adept at playing 'the Makelele role', John Terry has got pace to burn and uses it well, Luiz really wants to and likes to defend and we are going to make something of this season for sure. AVB's capture for £13 mill was money well spent. It was the correct decision to fire Ancellotti and Hiddink should not be brought in at any point, especially not with immediate effect. Clubs are really worried about playing us and see Stamford Bridge as a place they just wont get three points. Torres was a steal at £50 mill and I'm so optimistic about the rest of the season. It would be foolish to stock up on players who are in line to play us as they just wont get the returns. All in all, Chelsea are looking good.*

Depends on Best's fitness, I think they will be the front two for the next couple. Thought Ben Arfa played pretty well against City, bloody unlucky he hit the post too.
Long term hard to say, Pardew seems to like Best and Best does work his socks off, in terms of ability definitely Ben Arfa and Ba are the better players, so I think eventually they will become the main partnership.
Best does offer a more traditional target man type role though, which is useful.

More I think.. Form & fixture. I'm quite certain to get rid Nani. Decision would be easier if he plays mid-week game.

Lampard was silent today. I think he still managed to get into the box often but none important action to remember. I will still keep Mata for Wolves game and hope he could do some damage. He was in good positions many times tonight but Liverpool didn't give him much space and time. He almost grabbed that Sturridge's goal if he was more advanced.

Studge/RVP/Adebayor for me at the moment. Ade has done amazingly for me really, 8.0 was a serious undervalue that I lapped up from the start.

Agreed, but he needs to pick it up a bit. 10 points in last three isn't great.

6 PPG overall. He's not been explosive but he's been consistent. Rooney and Suarez have scored less in the same three.

Fair point, those two have been disasters lately. But DVD nicks points off Ade.

judging by recent bps for swansea games that are low scoring I wouldn't be surprised to see dyer getting one.

Liverpool's problem for years has been their away form.

    This season
    Home: Played 6, 10 points
    Away: Played 6, 12 points

Tough away games as well Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Stoke, WBA and Everton.

Must be tough to be a Chelsea supporter. Or a Chelsea defender. Jeez Luiz, what a defender he ain't. Malouda wasn't bad today tho.

Using scouse logic, Torres cost us -£12,950,000,000. Minus 12.95 billion is not bad imo.
