Mark Hughes takes charge of his first game as Queens Park Rangers manager today, as his side travels up to the Sports Direct Arena to face Newcastle United. After that, Thierry Henry returns to the Premier League, where he’ll be dreaming of a similar comeback to that of the fabulous Paul Scholes. Heroics or not, the Dugout Discussion is here to follow the events as they unfold (or to further reflect on the majestic Paul Scholes’ return). The team news from early game is in…

Newcastle XI: Krul, Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Santon, R.Taylor, Guthrie, Cabaye, Gutierrez, Shola Ameobi, Best.

QPR XI: Kenny, Hill, Ferdinand, Gabbidon, Young, Wright-Phillips, Derry, Buzsaky, Mackie, Bothroyd, Helguson.

It’s more a case of who’s missing today rather than who’s playing. The home side have a chance to leap-frog Liverpool into sixth with a win today, but they’ll have to do so without arguably their best two players. Senegalese Demba Ba and Ivorian Cheick Tiote have escaped to warmer climates for the African Cup of Nations. In come Shola Ameobi and Danny Guthrie.

As for the visitors, Joey Barton is suspended so misses the opportunity to play at his former stomping ground, and Adel Taarabt (Morocco) and Armand Traore (Senegal) are on international duty.

The Dugout Discussion chatroom can be accessed right here, and as you take your seat I’ll leave you with one brilliant fact I heard yesterday (and no, it’s about not Paul Scholes)… If Thierry Henry plays against Swansea today, it’ll be the 34th Premier League side he has faced. He’s scored against every one of the other 33.

Harsh on Milner, he's done a good job this season for City (mostly in the middle though).
AJ's just had no gametime, needs to move if he wants in the squad.

But yeah the other two are rubbish!

For when Rooney is allowed i'd play:

      Hart
      Walker Smalling Terry Cole
      Parker Wilshere
      Gerrard Rooney Young
      Welbeck

When he isn't Studge behind Welbeck, i guess.

Swansea are not a better side than Arsenal. They pass the ball better sure. Imo they're like Spain. They've loads of possession but they create nothing. That's why I think someone like Sigurdsson is needed to give them some purpose in attack. Nobody takes the initiative for them. They are one of the most conservative sides I've ever seen in possession which is why they keep the ball for so long, which in turn is why they have kept so many clean sheets.

If Arsenal were on their game they'd have picked them off 3 or 4 times on the break already. Walcott, Arshavin and Ramsey have butchered a number of openings.

Comparing Swansea to Spain is a bit unfair Imo, I mean sure xavi and iniesta are good but they're certainly no joe allen or mark gower

What I'm saying is Spain are by far the best team in the world but they don't dominate anywhere near as much as they should do. Swansea have all the same qualities that Spain have which makes them difficult to beat but they don't have the same calibre of player to enable them to win games.

Take the game against England for example, Spain had loads of possession but didn't really create any clearcut opportunities. That is what Swansea are like. It's just my opinion, take it or leave it.

I am starting to regret getting rid of Krul back in GW 19. Stockdale has not cut it in the Vorm rotation stakes.
Krul has gone 10 and 8 before bonus so far.

is there such a thing as dubious assists committee? Do the league actually pay people to assess an assist?

Yeah it's the Press Association (or something like that) - they need to be done for records and bets for example.

Depends what you mean by better football.

Swansea pass the ball better, Blackpool games were more interesting. I wouldn't actually say that Blackpool played "good" football.

yep, but blackpool were more maverick in their style. swansea are more disciplined and controlled. i dont think there is a comparison to be made to be honest, both good to watch but for different reasons.
