Mark Hughes takes charge of his first game as Queens Park Rangers manager today, as his side travels up to the Sports Direct Arena to face Newcastle United. After that, Thierry Henry returns to the Premier League, where he’ll be dreaming of a similar comeback to that of the fabulous Paul Scholes. Heroics or not, the Dugout Discussion is here to follow the events as they unfold (or to further reflect on the majestic Paul Scholes’ return). The team news from early game is in…

Newcastle XI: Krul, Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Santon, R.Taylor, Guthrie, Cabaye, Gutierrez, Shola Ameobi, Best.

QPR XI: Kenny, Hill, Ferdinand, Gabbidon, Young, Wright-Phillips, Derry, Buzsaky, Mackie, Bothroyd, Helguson.

It’s more a case of who’s missing today rather than who’s playing. The home side have a chance to leap-frog Liverpool into sixth with a win today, but they’ll have to do so without arguably their best two players. Senegalese Demba Ba and Ivorian Cheick Tiote have escaped to warmer climates for the African Cup of Nations. In come Shola Ameobi and Danny Guthrie.

As for the visitors, Joey Barton is suspended so misses the opportunity to play at his former stomping ground, and Adel Taarabt (Morocco) and Armand Traore (Senegal) are on international duty.

The Dugout Discussion chatroom can be accessed right here, and as you take your seat I’ll leave you with one brilliant fact I heard yesterday (and no, it’s about not Paul Scholes)… If Thierry Henry plays against Swansea today, it’ll be the 34th Premier League side he has faced. He’s scored against every one of the other 33.

Been following bps the whole season, listening to bp predictions and how they do it. Not 100% but shots on target play big part to bps. Ask applebonkers if he is around to clarify what the f*ck counts most for bps.

Sinclair made enough key passes today to beat RVP to a BP, easy. PPI system does pay a fair amount of attention to shots on target and passes not just goals - and RVP pretty much only has the latter today.

I saw RVP had more 2 shots on target with sinclair 1. With key passes maybe but saw a few go straight to arsenal defense. Plus I thought a pen goal counts for jack in PPI.

Doesn't count for much as I understand yes, but Sinclair did more all-round in the game - RVP looked out of it for most of the match tbh.

Disappointed a bit in him but this week I will definitely take a goal from him.

                    Haha I capped Rooney too!

We'll see if Roon gets any BPs but he'll be lucky to get 1 it seems.

RVP is a keeper but has looked lethargic of late. He seemed to briefly pick up a niggle in the first half and played worse after that. I don't know how significant that is.

TBH no - Didn't manage many shots on target, finished just the one right at the start. He didn't make many good passes and looked subdued after a bright start. Swansea will get most/all of them.

    2 FT's this week, currently thinking Jags & Jones > Bardsley & Riise/Hangeland

    Team:

    Nani Mata Bale Walters Dyer
    RVP Ade Sturr

Think I will wait the next two weeks and see if Cahill slides right into the starting XI, and I fancy Norwich to score against them aswell. I'd prefer Riise over Senderos, bigger threat going forward although he has done nada this season (surprisingly imo)

Yeah in all honesty I would say stack up on United strikers and wingers (Rooney, Welbeck, Nani, Valencia) next week - they will exploit the same vulnerabilities we had today. So many injuries in defence have destroyed our fullback positions. Do we have any defs returning? Otherwise it will be a massacre.

Arsenal were pretty sloppy and generally outplayed today. Swansea impress me more and more. I was against them being in the EPL when they got through the play-offs last season, but now I'm really glad they're there. I haven't seen many full matches from them, the last being when they played a deflated match against Villa after Gary Speed's death. But today they were excellent, linking up together really well and playing attractive football. Some luck went there way but they fully deserve the win. I hope they finish in the top ten.

Swansea are definitely staying up, that's for sure. Their passing is crisp and precise, the opposite of ours right now. They make far less mistakes - concede far less interceptions - again the opposite of us where we killed ourselves several times.

The game was high-scoring because both defences played a high line. The Swansea defence wasn't all that brilliant today tbh - it was their brilliant attacking play (and the threat of it stopping us getting forward as much as we'd like to) that won it

Yes, it would appear that the early RVP goal changed the shape and positioning of Swansea. Could have been a very different game without the early goal. Really entertaining game though.

Yeah even though we lost I have to appreciate the skill and speed - it was like the best combination of the continental and British styles.

There was so much space behind the defenders and they weren't playing offside properly. Allied with incredible pace on the flanks (Dyer, Walcott obviously) the result was defensive chaos

im a bit torn...nani will drop tonight, is playing arsenal next gwk. not sure whether to take out yak or nani. i can afford a yak drop in price without losing cash, my front 8 looks like this

    Nani Bale Dempsey Sessegnon Walters
    RVP Aguero Yak

    a) nani > gerrard
    b) nani > mata
    c) nani > silva (will need to do it tonight)
    d) yak > fletcher (who to bench next gwk?)

I have the same problem, think I'm going to gamble and take a hit to get Fletcher and Dempsey in and hope he scores while Nani does nothing again.

Got Adebayor at 9.3 with .5 in the bank. Clueless as to who to bring in for next week. Thoughts?

Was going to bring in Yak or Bellamy - scratch that and went for a 2 week gamble on Bent. That is if I can resist wildcarding that long...must...resist...
