The fixtures have had a good frisking and, ahead of Gameweek 23, our Watchlist rankings have been updated accordingly alongside this new data. Our mid-term choices over the next run of games can be found on your right hand toolbar – follow through for a quick round-up of the notable movers and shakers…

Goalkeepers

Baby steps are taken by the men between the sticks. Strong forthcoming fixtures promoted Joe Hart (money to spare) and Paddy Kenny (on a budget) to second and third place behind Tim Krul – we’re putting that five goal concession down as an aberration.

Following five starts in Manchester United’s last six Premier League fixtures, it’s hard to look beyond Anders Lindegaard given his tantalisingly low price. While the rotation fears ease in the United goal, they’ve escalated down at the Britannia. Thomas Sorensen drops in our rankings, below his Old Trafford compatriot, with a return for Asmir Begovic in the Stoke goal looking a very real possibility following Saturday’s events against West Brom.

Defenders

Following the completion of his four-match suspension, Vincent Kompany will return to the Man City fold next gameweek and finds himself back on top of the rankings without a moment’s hesitation. His upcoming schedule, coupled with greater starting role security, has him usurp the incumbent Micah Richards from our chart.

Goal threat from the back pushes Phil Bardsley up the rankings, as Sunderland’s rejuvenated defence becomes an investment prospect. The triumvirate of Jonny Evans, Ciaran Clark and Anton Ferdinand also make measured gains to offer a variety of choice at the cheaper end of the scale.

The tried and tested -and heavily owned- group of Ryan Taylor, Jose Enrique and Kyle Walker make the most noticeable of drops with rotation, form and fixtures conspiring to trigger a decline in their ranking.

Midfielders

Our first choice midfielders look hard to dislodge with each of Gareth Bale, Clint Dempsey, David Silva and Stephane Sessegnon battling and shuffling for positon in the top four right now. Antonio Valencia has returned to form to overshadow Nani – if any player will threaten that upper bracket monopoly any time soon then it’s likely to be the Ecuadorian.

James McClean continues to rise with form that belies his price tag, with Hatem Ben Arfa going a few steps better after his splash in an otherwise unsuccessful weekend for Newcastle.

Previous stalwarts, Rafael Van Der Vaart and Scott Sinclair, continue to slip down the rankings, with a heavy reliance on penalties, coupled with under performance from open play. The fixture list isn’t kind to either player over the coming weeks, while team-mates offer alternatives with Bale irresistible and Joe Allen and Gylfi Siggurdsson continuing to impresss.

Fordwards

Robin Van Persie and Sergio Aguero remain understandably firm at the top of the charts. Nipping at their heels, however, is Bobby Zamora, fresh from last week’s Watchlist Article and a barnstorming performance against the Magpies. Fixtures remain in his favour over the month ahead – although Dempsey’s popularity will surely dent his chances of investment.

Daniel Sturridge and Danny Graham take slight dips due to stuttering form and testing fixtures respectively, while Danny Welbeck’s consistent returns for just 6.6, has him jump into the middle of the pack as rotatation fears ease a little. Aston Villa strikers Darren Bent and Robbie Keane also rise due to their impressive form, while Hugo Rodallega sneaks in as a consideration.

Our subscribing members will soon be treated to a “Versus” article from Sir Paulos, which goes some way to explain Edin Dzeko’s return to favour – one Premier League goal since October really doesn’t tell the full story.

Do you not think £6.8m is a bit much for a GK? Hart seems like a good choice based on a good run of fixtures however City will dominate the inferior teams so saves & bps will probably evade Hart in these matches. Just think it's a bit pricey just to get 6 points in the bag.

Have a look at the BPs the top keepers (namely Hart and Cech) get, compared to keepers like Vorm etc.

I personally don't like having an expensive GK, but there are definitely merits. The main one being there is never any doubt that Hart is going to start a match

Interesting that it was in a game where they listed him as making only 2 saves... compared to some weeks where he made 6 or 7.... they must have been 2 BIG saves...

Its cause in the games where the keepers dont do anything they get no negative points. And get positives for kicking the ball to their defenders.

It's definitely too much to spend on a keeper imho... a quick reshuffle in the transfer window will show you how much you have to compromise in other areas..

      BAE is going after Wigan.

My wildcard team is getting Huth in but I've decided to keep BAE for Wigan and take the additional rise, given that Huth is away to Utd anyway.

      Leaves me with just Bale.

I see a lot of people saying that if they have a really strong front 8, then it'll be a bench nightmare, and that they fear somebody going crazy while on their bench
Surely this is a better situation to have, if you can afford it, than having players which you know won't do too well each week.
I personally would rather have the luxury of occasionally getting it wrong, than having a dead space in my team

That's the way I felt, although they have made me doubt myself.

I have the standard Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Valencia, Sess

But think a downgrade on Valencia to say Barfa would mean I could upgrade Dzeko to Aguero.

I guess not, everyone benched Ben Arfa this week (well most), whereas not many would bench a better priced player in which case most would benefit from your loss.

          Eg. Everyone who benched Bale.

Thats an interesting point actually. I suppose it would be risky to bench anyone with high ownership. Bale has something like 30% ownership, this could actually help people when choosing who to bench

I have the same rotation dilemma with a strong front 8 due to WC. I fully agree with your logic and honestly I don't think its a bad thing having a strong squad. Chances are you will find 1 player in the front 8 who has a terrible fixture that your almost certain will not do well. Sometimes it could just be a gut feeling that it won't be their day

I don't dispute that. However, whoever he downgrades to from Valencia won't be as good as Valencia..........swings and roundabouts.

The only thing that maybe might push it, is that Valencia's fixtures are about to take a turn for the worse. Then again, he scored and assisted at The Emirates.

They could both score points so it's a toughie. I'd pick whichever one uses up the slot in your team that's less in demand.

Saying that, i wouldn't put either in my team. Bale is enough atm i reckon.

    I have Sess/Dempsey/Silva/Bale/Dyer and RVP/Aguero/Bellamy.
I am thinking of selling Bellamy for Keane until Ba gets back. Anyone want to say why I shouldn't, or have better suggestions for Keane please? I have 0.2m in the bank, so I can go up to 7.7m for a Bellamy replacement.

The Arsenal conundrum. Are you guys only going with RVP or tempted elsewhere?

I can only see logic in picking RVP and maybe Vermaelen.

Thing is about Vermaelen is that it's a similar situation to Huth where you are picking them based primarily on last season and the hope that they can pick up that goal scoring form again. Just thinking £6.7m is a lot to spend while he continues at left-back and doesn't look like scoring just now.

Had Vermaelen for his hot spell before his injury, and at the time his ppg was similar to Silva's so I'd certainly be tempted to get him again.
If Ox-Chambs starts the next one after his impressive display then he'd certainly be worth bearing in mind.

I agree, his form this season has been great. Its just been curtailed by injury. Doubters should look closely at him during the final third of games, especially if Arsenal are losing or drawing...his runs up to the penalty box are amazing....look at him at corners as well.

I consider him Arsenal's second best striker at the moment.

Over the next 5, would you rather double up on Newcastle or Utd:

New - bla, AVL, tot, WOL, SUN

Utd - STO, che, LIV, nor, tot

I have the Krul/Lindegaard combo in goal. If Cahill doesn't make the line up against Swansea, my final spot in defence is between Evans and Williamson. Looking at the fixtures, it has to be Williamson right...

Doubt it. Raylor would make us less secure defensively so doubt we'd see that change. If changes are made it will be in midfield, where we could see either Gosling, Perch, Raylor or even Smith coming in for Ben Arfa.
Wouldnt be surprised if he kept it as is though.

also to those who advised me to go Barfa over Ethers, I am considering it, but Barfa (despite his goal and assist) is not yet nailed on, Etherington is, the only advantage of Barfa is that he rotates perfectly with McLean as my 4th mid.

that is my thinking, he is 2nd in the pecking order for pens, and given Pullis' record when mistakes are made (dropping Begovic, changing defenders etc) it's very possible. Barfa would allow me Verm, but..... although someone said the Ox might be a decent 5th mid, the same applies for him as it does for Barfa.
