A consistent if unglamorous pick in recent seasons, many Fantasy managers have enjoyed a flirtatious relationship with Wigan’s Hugo Rodallega. With Charles N’Zogbia long the reigning belle of the Wigan ball, and heavy investment in an inconsistent side understandably rare, Rodallega’s liaisons with our squads have tended to be brief and furtive affairs.

Perennially priced around the 6.0 mark in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL), a record boasting 272 points over the previous couple of seasons belies the Colombian’s girl-next-door reputation, and with N’Zogbia tying the knot with Aston Villa in August, Rodallega’s opportunity to step out of the shadows seemed finally to have arrived.

Fortune seldom scripts a straightforward ascent for would-be heroes, and a knee injury in September consigned Rodallega to the treatment table in what should have been his hour of triumph. Struggling to regain full fitness, his re-introduction to Premier League society was a stop-start affair. Seemingly burdened by Wigan’s reliance on his goals, a slump in form was exacerbated by uncertainty over his future. While a mooted move to Fulham may fail to come to fruition, a summer move seems a certainty, and, in the meantime, a fully fit and firing Rodallega looks to have his head back in the game and a determination that his last hurrah for Wigan will lead them to Premier League salvation. It’s worth noting that a transfer to Fulham could also prove dividend, though, with the Cottagers’ fixtures and strong home form affording their attacking options plenty chances of points.

Scoring or assisting every one of his side’s goals since the end of gameweek 16, Rodallega’s fine fettle has been the only ray of light in a gloomy winter for a side now happily poised on the shore of a sea of season-ticker blue.Wigan’s reliance on the Colombian hitman has never been more palpable, and Martinez’s apparent decision to let him walk away on a free transfer in the summer appears a judicious sacrifice for the Latics’ Premier League survival prospects.

A tricky away trip to Spurs is followed by a mouth-watering run of games (EVE bol AVL SWA nor WBA) in which Martinez’s men will be keenly aware that they must conquer or perish. Anything but prolific scorers in recent weeks, Wigan certainly have the ethos and the capability to rack up the goals, and with Rodallega back at his best and leading the line, he is more than likely to be involved when, not if, Wigan’s attacks bear fruit. Currently priced at 5.9 in the FPL, Rodallega could offer strong value over the coming Gameweeks, and, with setbacks overcome, the script seems to be set for a heroic final act to the Colombian’s Latics story.

balls. QPR had one chance in the 98th minute 2 days ago, it was one of the most perfect defensive displays you'll ever see between 2 premier league sides. can't see AVB letting anything break up that defence

Nani and Rooney both looking likely to return to the side against Chelsea. Nani looks almost certain to miss the Stoke game whereas Rooney probably has about a 40% chance of playing I'd say.

No news, but I reckon Rooney is more likely to play than Nani.

However, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if neither of them play given the fixtures United have got coming up, and the fact that they *should* be able to beat Stoke without them.

I agree about Aguero. Think it's best to wait for him to get back to form. A lot of people on here would disagree but let's be honest, he's a shadow of his former FPL-self right now.

As far as my forwards are concerned I'm happy with RVP, but Sturridge and Welbeck (although only just purchased) are both on thin ice. Whichever one of them doesn't score well next week will make way for Ba/Cisse.

Also looking to get in a Stoke defender next week, so ideally both Sturridge and Welbeck would score this weekend and I can get Ba/Cisse in GW26.

the fact is - apart from RVP, and maybe Demba... there just aren't many good deals out there... for this reason probably best to pick a cheapie like Graham... or even Morison... though he's getting more expenisive by the week it seems!

That sounds like a plan! Welbeck's a great shout at the moment, seems to be really self-motivated. I guess he really wants that Euro 2012 spot badly.

Precisely. So many options - Demba's, BZ (rotates with Walters), Helgicopter (if fit), Yak (gw25-29), Studge (gw25-28) and course Hugo himself.

probably a bit too high for comfort in luiz's case. if both are on the top of their games i think there's no doubt luiz is the better defender, quite obvious in fact given that cahill was playing for bolton whilst luiz was commanding a £20+mil move to chelsea.
luiz is basically the defensive version of huerelio gomes, without the big error he's class, lately he's been fine, not that anyone will ever notice

Sorry if this has been asked recently (haven't been on here in a while).

What's the news with Bale? Going to be fit to start v Wigan. Want to give him the armband but if there's a chance he won't start I don't want to risk it.

Harry Redknapp has said its not too bad, I think he'll start, but with an injury to a star player, he'll be brought off if Spurs are doing well imo. I think you should play him, but its a risk to give him the captains armband, he could last five minutes.

Sort of, stuck a fiver each on draw and Leicester and got myself something back. Should of put more on tbh, just got a bit greedy and really thought Southampton would win.

And oh yeah, forgot about teams being out. That'll help for my one week punt on Dzeko/Wellbeck/Defoe/Other striker with good fixture as well.

TBH Today is the 1st time I have heard about him...

Typical Wenger signing.. young offensive midfielder, unknown, highly talented and out of contract in the summer.

Well thats what the reporters are saying.. Arsenal have been sending lots of scout to the Bundesliga.. I assumed it was for Podolski, Gotze or Holtby.. 🙁

But something is better than nothing.. Knowing our injury luck he might get his first start within 2 weeks..

the more i think about the more aguero does'nt seem a good option.. for reasons stated below
    1. RVP and Ba are fixtures in most people's teams leavin one spot open for a striker. If you stick with aguero that's 11 million in a guy you have to keep long term.. i'd rather have adebayor upfront who i have no qualms shiftin to sturridge/yakubu etc when they go into a run of good fixtures..
    2. Without aguero it's possible to double up with city's defense, and there are'nt as many premium options behind if not for city
    3. with RVP takin the (C) most week is there a need for another 11 million striker,,.
    4. Silva.. he's undroppable.. havin 2 10 million + from the the same team seems risky
Just my thoughts.. think i'm gonna double up in defense and skip aguero.

and mata/vdv/nani etc will hit form again soon and so will sturridge etc.. would rather keep place and money for them in my team.. also with DGW's loomin cause of FA i'd rather a free striker spot to take punts on bellamy etc here and there

1 - adebayor is poop when VDV plays in the same team as he does

dont mean Adebayor per se.. you have sturridge/yakubu/welbeck/bellamy offerin brilliant value in short spells.. i'd rather a free spot for them.. and Richards + Kompany looks a brilliant bet for the season

sturridge - maybe if AVB steers clear of fernando and gives sturridge a shot as the main striker
An injury free Bellamy would get my vote, but its his in-ability to play a full 90 mins & exploit tired defences that puts me off.

      1. Why do you have to keep him long term? It takes more guts to transfer a player like Aguero out, but that shouldn't stop you if someone else has much better form and fixtures.
      2. I don't want to double up on City's defence, I'd rather, much rather, double on their attack.
      3. I can understand, but GW's 26 & 27 Aguero is (on paper) the stand out captain choice, in my opinion.
      4. Just look at those fixtures. FUL, avl, BLA, BOL. I would be massively surprised if City don't score bag fulls there, and so I imagine that if you double on Silva and Aguero you should see some handsome returns.

I just cannot see how doubling on those two for those four fixtures is anywhere near a bad thing.
