Barrel-chested journeyman Grant Holt was hotly tipped for success at the start of the season after his 21 goal haul helped secure Norwich City’s promotion to the Premier League. For some, though, doubts lingered as to whether the 30-year-old striker, who made his name at clubs such as Barrow, Rochdale and Sheffield Wednesday, could make the step up to the top-flight.

Holt’s opening to the campaign was positive. Starting all of the Canaries’ first four fixtures, there were flashes that his lower league goal scoring prowess could be replicated in the highest tier of English football, as he netted away to Chelsea in Gameweek 3.

Gameweek 5 brought a turnaround in fortunes, however. Holt began to find himself all-too-often warming the bench, as Paul Lambert increasingly turned to Steve Morison to supply the team’s goals. Throughout the autumn, Holt rarely played a full 90 minutes, with 20 to 30 minute substitute appearances becoming a common occurrence.

Nevertheless, this seasoned pro is clearly not one to let his head drop and whenever he was given playing time, Holt offered Lambert a reminder of his attacking potential. He climbed off the bench to net against Liverpool and Blackburn in Gameweeks 9 and 10 and, having replicated this feat in the Gameweek 13 win over QPR, many had suspected Holt’s role as impact sub was more suited to his playing style.

The past few months have put paid to that theory, however. Holt has started ten of Norwich’s last twelve and, as the season unfolds, has re-established himself as Lambert’s first-choice frontman once again, with Morison afforded just 25 minutes in the past three gameweeks, in comparison.

A recent run of games has included a Gameweek 25 brace away at Swansea, a feat that earned Holt maximum bonus points and returned his second double-digit haul of the season. In Gameweek 26 he continued to punish the Premier League’s top teams, notching in the 2-1 home loss to Manchester United. Already this week, Holt’s exploits have earned more than 8,500 transfers in, with a price rise likely within days.

With a return of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) 98 points – including 10 goals and 13 bonus points- Holt is now the highest-scoring Fantasy asset in the Norwich squad. Priced at 5.1m (following a 0.4m drop since the start of the season) he is looking like the best source of attacking investment for those looking to tap into the Canaries favourable run of fixtures over the next six weeks (sto, WIG, new, WOL, ful, EVE).

Amongst all strikers, he is joint-top with Swansea’s Danny Graham for “Value” and, in terms of points accrued, Holt is eighth, above the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Yakubu and Steven Fletcher. With an ownership of just 3.6 per cent, he could be that budget differential Fantasy managers are looking for as Lambert looks to secure his side’s place in the crucial final third of the campaign.

I'm starting to wish i never sold Adebayor in my Jan Wildcard. He's so expensive now and seems like a must have gw31 onwards :/

I'm in the same boat - I think I'll put Senderos in and have Taiwo first sub. If Senderos doesn't start then he probably won't come on (famous last words) and the AC milan man can come in.

I do have The Schwarz in goal aswel now though so admittedly doubling up on Fulham defence does feel about wrong...

Okay, can I get some verification on the following:

Vorm - ill, likely to play this weekend, if not it will be the last game he misses.
Senderos - benched last week but likely to start this weekend and keep his place long term
Vermaelen - played for Belgium, should be fine for this weekend
Bardsley - doubtful for the weekend but likely to be back for the next game
Agger - out for several weeks, needs to get rid of him
RVP - made it through the international unscathed and should be fine for the weekend
Bale - talk of a knock but will almost certainly shake it off and start against United

Am I right? Thanks in advance

      Verm - Plays

Got 2 FTs this week so need to make at least one change. Nothing in the bank:

    Vorm Sorensen
    Kompany Evans Simpson Taiwo Kelly
    Silva Valencia Bale Dempsey McClean
    RVP Aguero Ba

Was thinking Taiwo - Caulker and Sorensen - Schwarzer?

Or just do Taiwo - Caulker and play Vorm. Not much point in saving the transfer though as I'll prob wildcard next week.

You're more likely to play McClean in B...then again no City attacking coverage seems suicide and I love Holt so I'm saying A!

I prefer A but the lack of any spurs attacking threat is a worry with their run in - includes STO, SWA, NOR, bol, qpr, BLA, FUL (!!!) - so Bale for Nani or Rooney for Adebayor and you are set monsieur

Similar team to me. You prob need some United attack (ie Rooney) by next week.
Liverpool also have a DGW next week so some cover from them would be nice.
City may well have a blank in GW29 and their fixtures aren't great anyway, so you could sell 1 or even 2 of their players.

Next week Rooney and Valencia sound good but may need to involve losing Silva to afford it.

I have sorenson and lindergaard. Also have bent. So should I:
    A) Replace bent with suarez and go in this week without a keeper.
    B) Replace one of my goalkeepers. I have 0.5 in the bank so I would need a goalkeeper with a price under 5
    C) Take a hit and make both the transfers.

I got both in last week for these two home games....ditching yaya afterwards though. If you plan to ditch Silva then its worth having some kind of Man City cover and Yaya is still very good value for what he offers (ie genuine chance of a goal, assist and bonus) He looked very threatening for periods of the Blackburn game.

I like Ba's fixture this week, plenty of opportunity for penalties in a derby match against a newly feckles sunderland defence. But I agree with your sense of concern. With Cisse in the team he looks less threatening. Last week he had just one shot on goal in 89 mins, compared to Cisse's three in 65 mins.

If the same happens again in a derby then it may be time for me to say bye bye ba.
