After being shifted around the West Brom midfield all season, it seems as if James Morrison has finally found a home. Used on both wings and through the middle in a conventional 4-4-2 by Roy Hodgson, Morrison’s versatility proved ultimately detrimental to his Fantasy prospects but a recent change of formation has coincided with a rise to prominence…

Afforded a role in the hole behind Marc-Antoine Fortune as the Baggies moved to 4-4-1-1, Morrison’s ascent as a viable mid-price Fantasy option has gone hand-in-hand with a climb up the table for the midlands outfit. A recent three-match winning streak was brought to an end at Old Trafford on Sunday, but a record of four wins and a draw from the last seven is indicative of their upturn in fortunes.

Morrison has been crucial for Hodgson over this recent period, grabbing two goals and four assists as the likes of Stoke, Chelsea and Sunderland were swept aside. Indeed, a breakdown of his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) stats shows that, prior to the Gameweek 22 win at the Britannia, Morrison had averaged just 2.4 points per game but since then, he’s jumped to 5.6, despite recent blanks against Chelsea and United.

With summer signing Shane Long now struggling for first team starts and Peter Odemwingie stationed wide right, Hodgson’s bold decision to dismantle his previously lacklustre attack has proved dividend. West Brom had scored a mere 20 goals in 21 games before the win at Stoke – since then, they’ve netted 14 in seven; a huge improvement that has Fantasy managers examining their attacking talents with renewed vigour.

A look at the upcoming fixture schedule suggests West Brom will be afforded plenty opportunity to maintain their good form. Hodgson’s side face a trip to Wigan and host Newcastle, Blackburn and QPR in the next six Gameweeks – all could be potentially profitable for the Baggies attacking assets.

With Odemwingie set to miss out on the potentially profitable trip to Wigan with a calf complaint, Morrison – at a mere 5.4 – offers ideal coverage of West Brom’s attacking talent against the basement club. Indeed, with game time guaranteed and a mere 1.3% ownership, the Scot looks well-placed to maintain his role as cut-price differential over the next few weeks, as Hodgson looks to steer his side to safety and beyond.

people expecting rooney to be rested

he has away game apart from 3 this season

    stoke - injured i think
    liverpool - sub
    norwich - injured

and utd have played alot of european games with rooney always starting after

also hes only been subbed off in 2 away games (newcastle with game lost and qpr with game won)

if fit im confident he'll play and likely to for the 90mins

What would be the point of resting him when utd haven't got any tough games coming up and are no in only one competition. It just doesn't make sense. If I could bet on it I'd have mega bucks on rooney starting. He just won't be rested from now util the end of season imo.

I was watching the game on TV and he went over and stayed down for a little bit around 75mins, but it didn't look like he'd fallen awkwardly or anything, think it was frustration as much as anything else. If I'm not mistaken he smashed that beauty of a goal in with the same foot he was holding shortly afterwards, and he carried on playing without showing any signs of an injury for the rest of the game.

As far as rotation goes, I agree with all the points made but still have a naggling doubt that Berbatov might get a start. Crazy stat for you: 18 outfield players have played more league minutes than Berbatov this season. 2 outfield players have scored more goals than him.

The is no chance of Rooney being rested if fit with City only 1 point behind. He's their talisman and probably the 1st name on the team sheet.

I have no idea where these rumours have surfaced from but nothing official has been released. Until then we can't stipulate anything further on the matter!

In case you hadn't guessed.....I was planning to captain Rooney 😉

    Team for GW29:
    Krul (Mignolet)

    SKelly, Enrique, Skrtel, Evans
    Silva, Bale, Dempsey
    RVP (VC), Rooney (C), Ba

    Subs: Sigg, Caulker, Sess

1 FT to save. Would you change anything? Should I play Sigg and change to 3-4-3?

It's ok, though as far as I remember STK/SWA defense doesn't rotate too good starting from this GW and Sorensen has lost his place in the starting lineup.

You've got quite a headache with your defenders.

I would keep Silva for now. I know he's underperforming and maybe that's the key to answer, why City don't score many goals of late, but you've already got Rooney, so probably be on the right end when they score.

I'd consider: Ba -> Pog (if he keeps his form), Dempsey -> Valencia (when fit and guaranteed of starts) and then upgrade McClean or Sigg.

Well I've had Silva since gw1 now, so quite reluctant in selling him....will lose a lot of value and won't be able to get him back in.

Ba > Pog is an interesting one. I have comtemplated him but thought I would wait till after the Norwich game first.

Firstly reports of Rooney having a knock - I'd take that with a heavy dose of salt but it#s still being reported.

Secondly does the provisional squad come from the Mirror's guess work or United? If so - no Nani.

It was a long-term decision. Mainly due to frustration. 2 transfers spent on Odem in, Odem out... Cup shmup. With what I had I had little chance of qualifying regardless. Plus I'm 120 points ahead of the only person i HAVE to beat. It's fine. All I have to do is captain the guys that'll score the hat trick...

I get it, but it looks like for now you either have to go extra cheap or spend big. No middle-of-the-road options; maybe that's why more and more people here pick two cheapies (from McClean, Sigg and Ryo) and then use the cash elsewhere.

One of the Scout guys has proposed a change to the wildcard process but I think that a fourth striker option would open the game up and add more options/interest.

Is having just the three strikers too restrictive?

Obviously the reason behind this is your formation to remain realistic. The first thing I'd change given the chance is to make DMs more interesting FPL-wise (add a 2/3 pts bonus for CS, points for recovered balls or increase the number of points for scoring a goal).

4 strikers would give you the same problem.

          RvP, Rooney, Aguero, A.N.Other

you'd still be on here asking who to pick.

What is it with all these negative post regarding Rooney's fitness. I have not seen anything to support the argument that he could be rested. Plus it makes no sense....it's the only competition left for United. They're only a point ahead of City and with the City game just around the corner I am sure SAF will want to put as much daylight between them and City.

I think the people raising doubts are those that do not have Rooney and are trying to disrupt those that were wise enough to have brought him in last week.

If he is injured fine but please if anyone is going to make bold statements about SAF resting him, make sure you have evidence and sources to back them up.

        Rant over!

Rather than Rooney being rested lets call it SAF rotating his strike force, im a United fan and i would love to see Rooney play every game until the end of the season but its possible that he will rotate this weekend with Hernandez.

Still if i had Rooney i would play him.

Never realised if Chelsea were to win the CL (Never gonna happen) the 4th placed team in the PL ends up in the Europa. A 38 match campaign to achieve a CL spot gets binned for another teams CL cup run that is out of your hands. That is very harsh.

Assuming of course Chelsea finish 5th...

            I'm tipping-

            United
            City
            Chelsea
            Tottenham

I think Arsenal will crash and burn once again, and Tottenham will get their sh*t together (they haven't been bad, just a bit unlucky)

I think United, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs come the end of the season. I really like Spurs but i think Chelsea will go on a good run now and Arsenal have enough quality to push them out of third spot.
