As we edge towards the conundrum that is Gameweek 34, our Watchlist rankings have enjoyed their weekly refresh and are available in the sidebar to your right. Both Sunderland and Swansea are prominent risers, with the Wearsiders, in particular, moving up – Simon Mignolet, Michael Turner, Stephane Sessegnon and Nicklas Bendtner are all afforded a leap in our estimations as we take stock of the upcoming set of fixtures…

Goalkeepers

While back-to-back defeats have seen Michel Vorm return blanks, the Dutchman remains on top of our keeper rankings by virtue of an enviable set of fixtures which will surely see fortunes turn. Coverage of the Swansea defence looks essential for the coming weeks, with Vorm and Steven Caulker both standout candidates.

Sunderland’s Simon Migonolet is the high climber, pushing Vorm for the top spot thanks to his own obliging fixtures, which hint at improved returns. The Belgian may not boast a double Gameweek but his schedule is strong and he rotates well with other assets – notably Stoke’s Asmir Begovic, who has two home fixtures in Gameweek 36, and Villa’s Shay Given, who offers a double the Gameweek before.

Both Given and Begovic feature highly in our thinking, as does Bolton’s Adam Bogdan. A regular in the Watchlist rankings in recent weeks, at just 4.0 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, he comes into his own now with two double Gameweeks to follow – clean sheets may be at a premium but, with save points, Bogdan should still offer strong value when those four fixtures combine.

Defenders

The aforementioned Steven Caulker climbs to second spot in our defender rankings but even he is unable to dislodge Jonny Evans, who continues to look essential for United’s run-in. Only complacency setting in as a result of an early title win would seem likely to dent his potential.

The expensive attacking potential of Everton’s Leighton Baines and Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen remain in our top five. Despite a blank in Gameweek 34 and a trip to Old Trafford to follow, Baines’ double fixture in Gameweek 36 and outstanding form – 24 FPL points in his last two Gameweeks – balance this out.

Below this pairing, there are several intriguing budget options – namely Sunderland’s Michael Turner and Bolton’s David Wheater. While there are keepers available to cover their respective defences, the budget centre-back pairing look strong contenders in their own right. Wheater takes his set-piece goal threat into back-to-back double Gameweeks, while Turner has strong fixtures, including cover in Gameweek 34.

Vincent Kompany makes a return to the rankings but, with a trip to the Emirates up next and City’s confidence seemingly sapping as their title hopes dwindle, his prospects remain under review.

Midfielders

Gareth Bale continues to hold despite a goal drought that stretched to seven games with Sunday’s win over Swansea. Bale returned his third assist in five matches to keep things ticking over and is surely on the verge of registering a big score again, given his recent level of performance.

Antonio Valencia and Gylfi Sigurdsson are pushing him close, however. Both have outstanding form and fixtures and will surely be widely coveted as a result. They remain second and third, with Arsenal’s Theo Walcott also maintaining form to stay in our top five.

Stephane Sessegnon climbs to fifth place, edging out Fulham’s Clint Dempsey, who suffers a slight drop with his blank in Gameeek 34 looming. Dempsey has a trip to Bolton and a home clash with Chelsea before that, with a double in Gameweek 36 to come. Sunderland’s Sessegnon has strong form, however, and fixtures that offer good coverage over Gameweek 34 and beyond. Team-mate James McClean also enjoys a rise this week, heading a pack consisting of Hatem Ben Arfa and Bolton pairing Martin Petrov and Ryo Miyaichi, both of whom will surely benefit from at least three of the Trotters’ four fixtures over Gameweeks 35 and 36.

Forwards

Both Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie hold their top spots but find themselves under renewed pressure from Papiss Cisse. We anticipated continued returns from the Senegal striker by installing him in third last week and, having put Liverpool to the sword, he continues to rank highly. However, Emmanuel Adebayor climbs to third by virtue of his return to form in addition to strong fixtures, which rank slightly higher than the Newcastle man. Both are standout contenders for the third striker spot in our squads.

The pack that follows certainly represent gambles – possible differentials that could reap rewards. Sunderland’s Nicklas Bendtner epitomises this but, having returned four goals in five games, he carries strong form into a favourable run of fixtures. Swansea’s Danny Graham is your budget option – blessed with an obliging schedule but perhaps hampered by form that has failed to see him notch in his last six league outings.

Fernando Torres is the wildcard and perhaps the ultimate differential up front – still not certain of starts with European commitments and Didier Drogba an option, the Spaniard is showing glimpses of form, picking up his first bonus and double figure return of the season last weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Or maybe Wilkinson actually.

          Same dilema with shotton and caulker and Vorm and begovic, if shotton is OOP might as well play him.

        Yeah only Caulker at the back. Wilkinson looked poor at Wigan aswell and as bad as Wolves are at the back with players like Jarvis and Fletcher they will create chances.

    Here she is, my DGW plan.

    GW32: Save Transfer

    GW33: Senderos -> Turner

    GW34: Dempsey -> Sessegnon

    GW35: Moses -> Miyaichi

    GW36:Vermaelen -> Assou-Ekotto/Terry
    Valencia -> Mata
    Rooney -> Adebayor

    It will leave me with 11 for GW34 and 8 doublers for GW36 all just for a measly four point hit. 🙂

    My team for GW36 would then be:

    Vorm

    Baines - Terry - Turner

    Bale - Mata - Siggy - Sess

    RVP - Cisse - Ade

    I would love to hear peoples opinion's on this as I have been working on it for a very long time 🙂

And someone like DBR (not been on here for ages, but the point stands), who would get down voted by so many even when he made a good point.

    Europa League 2nd Round Previews

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Dynamo Kyiv(JohnD) vs Tottenham Hotspur(megatron x)

    Group A winners Tottenham travel to Turkey to face JohnD’s Dynamo Kyiv after Kyiv survived a late scare to book their place in the second round after The Parmtree’s Stoke failed to beat group winners Besiktas. Spurs had a slightly easier passage to the last 32 as they booked their place via a 20 point away win at bottom of the table Shamrock Rovers. The two teams have a similar style with JohnD already making one change ahead of GW32.

    Predicted Line-Ups:

    Dynamo Kyiv: Vorm; Evans, Skrtel, Caulker/Vermaelen; Bale, Valencia, Walcott, Sigurdsson; RVP, Rooney, Suarez.

    Tottenham: Krul; Evans, Skrtel, Caulker; Bale, Valencia, Walcott, Sigurdsson, Dempsey; RVP, Rooney.

    Key Battles: Vorm vs Krul and Dempsey vs Suarez

    Prediction: A narrow home win.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    AC Milan(4vetti) vs Standard Liege(Duffman91)

    Champions League dropout AC Milan, managed by 4vetti are in unfamiliar territory as they host Duffman's Belgian side Standard Liege. 4vetti has taken a more aggressive approach to management and has been likened to Swindon manager Paulo Di Canio for his on and off field antics, compared to the calm and cautious Duffman91. An away defeat to Viktoria Plzen ended AC Milan's Champions League campaign and sparked to life another European adventure. Duffman’s Standard Liege topped group B with 15 points from a possible 18 with their only defeat at the hands of Milanista’s FC Kobenhavn.With only 381 places between the sides it's anybody's game. Standard Liege have made one change from the side that faced Kobenhavn, possibly Dempsey to Bale.

    Predicted Line-Ups:

    AC Milan: Vorm; Evans, Skrtel, Riise; Bale, Walcott, Valencia, Sigurdsson; RVP, Rooney, Adebayor.

    Standard Liege: Schwarzer; Evans, Enrique, Caulker; Valencia, Bale, Sigurdsson, Walcott; Cisse, RVP, Rooney.

    Key battles: Riise vs Caulker and Cisse vs Adebayor.

    Prediction: Home Win

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hannover 96′(Sarnab-Wazzagoal) vs Hapoel Tel-Aviv(Billy Ketsu)

    Hannover scraped through to the last 32 due to his superior goal difference over Milanista’s Kobenhavn, whereas Billy’s Hapoel stumbled over the line as Group C winners after beating Legia by 2 points on the final matchday.The two have been very quiet and secretive over their transfer plans and not let any details loose, unlike some of the Preston team have been and neither have slipped a finger and made an early transfer.

    Predicted Line-Ups:

    Hannover 96’: Vorm; Evans, Caulker, Enrique; Dempsey, Valencia, Walcott, Bale, Sigurdsson; RVP, Rooney.

    Hapoel Tel-Aviv: Vorm; Evans, Simpson, Cahill; Gerrard, Valencia, Walcott, Bale, Sigurdsson; RVP, Rooney.

    Key Battles: Enrique vs Cahill and Dempsey vs Gerrard

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Wisła Kraków(The Wise Krak: Alex Song) vs Sporting Lisbon(EpicFAIL)

    A very intriguing tie as the confident, sometimes cocky EpicFAIL takes on underdog The Wise Krak: Alex Song. EpicFAIL cruised through the group stages with the only minor blip being a loss away to Vaslui. Wisła Kraków were denied top spot when eventual table toppers OB secured a last gasp draw with Fulham. Despite EpicFAIL totting up a rank of 4,178 he owns an unusual duo in Tony Hibbert and Royston ‘Rickie’ Drenthe, possibly a hangover of the Liverpool-Everton DGW. The Wise Krak has taken a series of hits to set himself up for the run in, and has a decent side for the 1st Leg.

    Predicted Line-Ups:

    Wisła Kraków: Vorm; Evans, Ridgewell, Vermaelen; Valencia, Bale, Walcott, Sigurdsson; RVP, Rooney, Jelavic.

    Sporting Lisbon: Bogdan; Evans, Enrique, Richards; Bale, Valencia, Dempsey, Miyaichi, RVP, Rooney, Adebayor.

    Key battles: Sigursson vs Adebayor and Vermaelen vs Richards.

    Prediction: A narrow Home Win

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Vaslui(Coriswrasse) vs Besiktas(Jack(off)Attack)

    After the group stage draw Jack(off)Attack was confident of topping Group E, and he did just that beating The Parmtree 71-65 in Matchday Six to secure top spot ahead of rival JohnD and his Ukrainian side Dynamo Kyiv. In the second round Besiktas face a tough 1st leg away to Romanian representatives Vaslui managed by Coriswrasse. Vaslui finished runner-up in Group D ahead of Yossi- The Jewish Iniesta and his Zurich side. Underdogs Vaslui have already used their free transfer yet Jack(off)Attack has used two and already has a 4 point deficit before the tie has even began.

    Predicted Line-Ups:

    Vaslui: Vorm; Evans, BAE, Enrique; Valencia, Walcott, Dempsey, Sigurdsson; RVP, Rooney, Cisse

    Besiktas: Krul; Evans, Baines, Caulker, Valencia, Walcott, Bale, Sigurdsson, RVP, Rooney, Cisse

    Key Battles: BAE vs Baines and Dempsey vs Bale

    Prediction: Narrow Away Win

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Lokomotiv Moskva(thobe230) vs Slovan Bratislava(SSK Ginkvan)

    SSK’s Slovan Bratislava shocked the competition by running out as Group F winner and finish above seconded seeded King Eric and only suffering one defeat during the group stage, at the hands of Drinking Red Bull’s Red Bull Salzburg. Thobe230 and his Russian side Lokomotiv Moskva managed to overcome both Mac’s Anderlecht and Doosra’s AEK Athens and finish runners-up in Group L. Slovan’s SSK has already used his free transfer, possibly bringing in the reliable Antonio Valencia for Manchester City’s Yaya Toure. Lokomotiv manager Thobe is content on saving his free transfer with Davide Santon the only outstanding trouble.

    Predicted Line-Ups

    Lokomotiv Moskva: Krul; Evans, BAE, Skrtel; Bale, Dempsey, Valencia, Walcott; RVP, Rooney, Cisse.

    Slovan Bratislava: Krul; Evans, Baines, Cahill; Walcott, Dempsey, Valencia, Andrews; RVP, Rooney, Yakubu.

    Key battles: BAE vs Baines and Cisse vs Yakubu

    Prediction: Home Win

          I don't buy into that to be honest, if anything the smart bet is to cover your bases and pick Caulker in case the Newcastle attack have an off day... but that's just my opinion!

    Just doing some work looking into Chelsea... their games are going to be a nightmare. If they beat Benfica (and Spurs in the FA Semi's) then they'll be playing must win game after must win game after must win game every three days or so...

    14/04: Spurs (Wembley)
    18/04: Barca (H)
    21/04: Arsenal (A)
    24/04: Barca (A)
    *29/04: QPR (H)
    *02/05: Newc (H)
    05/03: FA Final (Wembley)
    09/05: Liverpool (A)
    13/05: Blackburn (H)

    I predict a boat load of rotation strife.

      Chelsea won't beat Spurs in the Fa Cup so you cancel out the 2 games there. They'll lose to Barca away about 95737372-0 so won't even need to play the second leg...unless they want that score doubled of course :). Hope that helps.

      TSG Hoffenheim coach Markus Babbel said last week: "The fact is that he has a contract with us. I'm assuming that he'll be with us when training starts next season. As things stand, he'll definitely be here for the beginning of training."

      But this isn't the whole story. Babbel spoke with Sigurðsson on the phone last week to ask about his plans after his loan deal expired. Babbel refused to say what Gylfi told him, however, and it is believed that the player wants to stay in England.

      The logic is therefore that Hoffenheim are merely showing an interest in retaining his services to push the sales price up to around €10 million. Icelandic newspapers have linked Sigurðsson with Man United, but without much conviction or evidence.

      When the loan deal was struck, however, a well-placed source stated that it contained a fixed-price purchase option for Swansea at a price of €4.5 million (plus outstanding instalment payments to Reading), so the picture isn't as clear as it might be.

      As a Spurs fan who's currenty got Kaboul, Bale and Adebayor.... i'm not sure. vDV very rarely plays 90 minutes and Saha and Defoe are right on the fringes. If he does play both games he'd be a great differential but if he doesn't then little returns are likely. If you are chasing i'd get him in, otherwise no.

      I am, not decided on that as a course of action (would probably lean to Rooney of the two if one leaves).

      By look of it I will probably have 9 of GW34 and about 5/6 DGW players.

      I'm looking more at the fixtures before and after the DGW rather than messing up my team for the one week (where rotation could kill many plans).

    Sorry for the slightly abstract questions but...

    What's the meaning of life?

    And who would you rather have from Walcott and Valencia from next week onwards? And when would you bring your chosen player in for Dempsey out of GW33 and GW34? (note: my rival has Valencia and I want to catch him)

    Dempsey GW33 CHE

    Walcott GW33-35 wol WIG CHE

    Valencia GW33-35 wig AVL EVE

    How do I link my team to my user name, or is it only applicable to paying members'?

      Think it's only for members as i haven't seen an option to do it for non-members. Please join my H2H league BTW 😛

      That doesn't mean anything. It's the average real wage that counts.
