With their city rivals making a statement at Carrow Road yesterday, the Sunday Dugout Discussion opens to see if league leaders Manchester United can hold their nerve and restore a five point lead at home to Aston Villa. It’s the only Premier League game taking place today, and the team news for the encounter is in…

Man United XI: De Gea, Rafael, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Scholes, Young, Welbeck, Rooney.

Villa XI: Given, Hutton, Collins, Baker, Lichaj, Bannan, Ireland, Clark, Gardner, Weimann, Agbonlahor.

As expected, Sir Alex Ferguson restores Paul Scholes to his starting line-up in place of Ryan Giggs. There’s also recalls for Rafael and Danny Welbeck, with Phil Jones and Javier Hernandez dropping to the bench.

Alex McCleish is without the injured duo of Stephen Warnock and Chris Herd, so there are starts for both Gary Gardner and Ciaran Clark.

The Dugout Discussion chatroom can be accessed right here, and will remain open the duration of today’s football, including the FA Cup tie between Tottenham and Chelsea.

As a Rooney owner and RVP(c)'er, I suppose 1 Rooney goal and 1-2 BPs is probably just about ideal? Then over to RVP to rip it up tomorrow.

Take it one day at a time, Rooney in your team is playing today so you want him to score as much as possible, tomorrow you simply want RVP to better him.

huh? You don't want Rooney doing better than RVP, simple. One day at a time? So if Rooney gets 4 today it's ok because you can just hope RVP scores 5 tomorrow?!

I'm seeing a lot of Rooney critism which he very much deserves. I support Utd but i have been so disappointed about the player he has become. He is pretty much the finished product and he just isn't the "white pele" we all expected him to be. He has the technical ability but doesn't produce enough. On the other hand, I've seen another player develop and drive forward since 18 into the player he is today, Ronaldo. I don't want to say Ronaldo worked harder and was more driven than Rooney but it certainly looks that way.

Totally agree with that! It does look like Rooney is neglecting his game and we are not seeing any development. Like you say with Ronaldo he just keeps getting better and better but Rooney looks a shadow of his former self.

You have a point there, all this dropping back and playing simple balls in midfield or trying to play long ones out wide has ruined Rooney. I thought he was on the right track when he was banging in the goals and carrying the team immediately after Ronaldo's departure but alas I don't think he'll do that ever again in this setup.

Another thing we need to consider is the competitive edge that Ronaldo brought to each other. They were always trying to out do each other and strive to be the best. Since then Rooney has told himself he is the best player at the club and hasn't gone out his way to prove that.

The difference isn't Rooney or Ronaldo's application. It's the painful fact that Ronaldo has left to play with better players, and Rooney has been left to carry this Utd team.

He hasn't been able to continue the role he adopted after Ronaldo's departure.. because the team isn't as good as it was then.

I don't think its all hist fault. He does what his manager asks him to do. He seldom plays upfront these days which is not his fault. Its upto his manager to fully utilize him.

Only penalty conversion is not what you need to do to prove worth in my team.
Still 45 mins are there to prove yourself.

    Dear Valencia,
Dribbles are not gonna win any Fantasy point for me.
