Euro 2012 – Matchday One – Dugout Discussion

We have lift off. Euro 2012 gets underway with co-hosts Poland taking on Greece for the early evening clash, before Russia face the Czech Republic in the late game in the same group. After weeks of speculation and tinkering, the Summer’s feast of football begins and we’re here to cover it kick by kick.

Our Dugout Discussion chatroom is now open to soak up any real-time banter.

The lineups are now in and, so far, they’re going according to plan in our predicted Group A starting XIs:

Poland:Szczesny; Piszczek, Perquis, Wasilewski, Boenisch; Polanski, Murawski; Blaszczykowski, Obraniak, Rybus; Lewandowski.

Greece: Chalkias; Torisidis, Avram Papadopoulos, Papastathopoulos, Holebas; Maniatis, Katsouranis, Karagounis; Ninis, Gekas, Samaras.

    Assistant Manager in McDonalds game? Whats this all about? I pressed it just out of interest and it told me "I think Zhirkov will score the most points. You should make him captain". Is this a way for those less used to continental players to have a helping hand? Thoughts?

    A few desperate last minute questions:

    A) Does Sergio Ramos playing at CB reduce his goal threat and thus make it worth getting in a cheaper option?

    B) Srna is 6.0 on the metro game - seems cheap and a good differential, but does the risk of him playing at full back negate his worth?

    C) Is Kerzhakov worth having/worth having over Lewandowski?

        Id rather play Ox or even Milner on the left with Walcott on the right.

          I'm not convinced by Ox and Walcott playing as wingers in a 4-4-2. Milner and Downing on the wings for experience and solidity. Downing is also the best crosser on the wings when Young is playing off the forward.
