[sbu_large_image] The Stock Check

A dubious penalty, compounded by a red card, knocks the wind out of Wigan but hands Demba Ba the platform to reward the faith of his army of Fantasy owners. Here’s the Stock Check from Monday’s events…

On the Up

Demba Ba
The Senegalese striker went into tonight’s game having scored just once in his last five league appearances but rewarded the patience of his owners with a brace. Ba converted the early spot-kick before leaping on the rebound from Davide Santon’s effort to take him to ten goals for the season. Tonight’s returns will earn him further interest, although Ba was struggling with his hamstring late on, with Alan Pardew optimistic post-match that this was just stiffness rather than a setback.

Fabricio Coloccini
The towering Argentine has emerged as the most popular member of the Newcastle defence in terms of FPL ownership and his return to the Magpies’ back four has added the stability that helped them to their first clean sheet in ten league outings.

Going Down

The Wigan Defence
Robbed of Antolin Alcaraz for much of the season and with further niggles biting, Roberto Martinez now faces more problems at the back with Maynor Figueroa banned for the vital home clash with QPR, while Gary Caldwell picked up his fifth booking tonight which will also see him miss the weekend. With Ivan Ramis remaining an injury doubt, the Latics look set to field a patched-up back four for the visit of Harry Redknapp’s side.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Took a punt and played Michu with Sterling as first sub! 😀
Well, mainly because Michu was playing Arsenal. If Michu scores and Arsenal loses, I'm (very slightly) happy. If Arsenal win after keeping a CS, I'm happier. Win-win!

Nice, sitting on my highest ever rank of 3k. Pity its was a week that could have been better, going for Silva over Michu last week was a bad call, so was starting Sterling over Fellaini 😕

If the matches could be played again you'd still pick Silva over Michu. Fellaini over Sterling could have gone either way. Congrats on the great rank by the way.

"If the matches could be played again you’d still pick Silva over Michu"

Really? Michu seems to be able to score against anyone whilst Silva really doesn't scream FPL points. I'd say playing Michu was always the right decision, maybe not over Silva but i would never have benched him, especially against Arsenal.

        *Not a hindsight post.

Michu Silva was very 50/50 at the time. Could have gone either way. Same with Fellaini/Sterling. Oh well, I've had my fair share of good luck so was probably due a bit of the bad.

Would you have sold Michu if you bought him at the beginning of the season, knowing that once you sell him getting him back, if needed, would be much more?

I bought him for 6.7 and sold him for 7.1 a month or so back. I don't regret selling him because I caught Mata on his good run. I just wish I sold Mata last week for Michu instead of Silva 😕

Midfield and Defence look great. Menez is a rotation risk. I follow PSG quite closely. It could be 2 of Lavezzi/Pastore/Menez/Nene playing behind Ibra.

Last time, for the last game of the group stages, Messi was rested cause Barca had qualified.. Didn't play that game. Cuenca and Pedro started.

It's going to backfire the next week. Save your transfer this week for at least 2 FTs otherwise you'll have to take a hefty hit.

Went up about 100 places after Cameron's 6 points from the bench 😯

Was catching up with the last two Scoutcasts at work today, and (with the benefit of hindsight) it was quite amusing hearing the players you were dismissing . Mark was adamant that Defoe wasn't a comparable alternative to Bale... and I think there was one the other way too. 🙂

Since when was a hamstring strain or pull only 1 or 2 weeks out? It's surely going to be 2 weeks minimum the way Bale pulled up and grabbed the back of his leg. Where's Facer when you need him? 🙂

Yep, I know the physio set-up at Spurs will give him every chance to recover. Still, two weeks seems best case scenario if it's not just a muscle spasm.

Well not really as its hard to tell who will start. Im looking at Bayern and Chelsea players as the people with the best potential for this week, as they need to win so they will put out their best team. Also Real Madrid. Barcelona, United and Arsenal players are the players with the biggest risk as they will have a lot of rotation(could be that none of the first choice players will start.

Agree. Already wildcarded in MD3 so can't afford too many transfers. I reckon Ronaldo and Messi will start though. Bayern and Chelsea play the 2nd day but I'll look into it. Milan and Dortmund might come good also. Need some differentials to cancel WC benefit from rivals.

yeah Ronaldo will, but messi only to chase his record and he has 3 games to get 2 goals, so I am not 100% sure. Id really like to know who will start as forward for bayern. I dont know about Dortmund, City are looking good defensively and will take this game very serious.

Heynckes usually rotates between the forward who played in the weekend before for the rested one. No guarantees though.
