It hasn’t taken long for Moussa Sissoko to establish himself as a key component of Alan Pardew’s new-look Newcastle side. The departure of Demba Ba, allied with an influx of new arrivals, has had an instant impact on the Magpies’ fortunes after a disastrous first few months of the campaign.

Sissoko arrived on these shores with a reputation as a box-to-box midfielder; 20 goals in seven seasons at former club Toulouse suggested he would chip in occasionally but a move to the advanced central midfield role behind Papiss Cisse in a 4-2-3-1 has seen the Frenchman flourish. In a situation similar to the likes of Marouane Fellaini and Michu earlier this season, Sissoko’s penchant for Fantasy points and mid-price appeal has already got the bandwagon in overdrive – almost 100,000 clambered aboard prior to last Saturday’s trip to Tottenham.

So far, Sissoko has rewarded his owners with attacking returns in all three appearances for Pardew’s side. An assist for Cisse’s goal at Villa was followed by a brace on his home debut in a stirring comeback win over Chelsea; the midfielder also teed up Yoan Gouffran for the Magpies’ equaliser at the Lane last weekend. It’s not just individual returns which have stood out, though; Sissoko has afforded Newcastle a greater physical presence and a real drive through the middle, with those wins over Villa and Chelsea the first time this season the club have won back-to-back league matches. Speaking to the press on Tuesday afternoon, Sissoko admitted:

“It has gone off smoothly. I have had a lot of fun. The Frenchmen who came to Newcastle this winter have adapted very well. People are supporting us and you can feel it on the pitch… I am not a number 10. Let’s say I am an attacking central midfielder. I like to move, defend, attack. I do everything a bit. The centre is where I can bring the most to the team. On the side, it is much more complicated…I have always wanted to play in England. It is the league that suits me the best.”

With Hatem Ben Arfa edging towards a return, Newcastle could soon be back to full-strength ahead of a schedule which sees them play host to Southampton, Stoke, Fulham and Sunderland in the next seven, in addition to trips to Swansea and Wigan. Coming in at 6.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and 6.3 in the Sky Sports game, Sissoko is significantly cheaper than Ben Arfa and Cisse’s respective FPL price tags of 7.4 and 8.8 for those looking to invest in Pardew’s side, while his stand-out displays are even threatening to shake up the order of the popular five man midfields in light of his superb form and eye-catching run of fixtures.

The only issue appears to be finding room for him in our midfield five. There is fierce competition for places and the consistency being shown by Juan Mata, Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale, along with the promise of continued returns from Fellaini and Michu and the budget appeal from the likes of Jason Puncheon: it’s difficult to look beyond those established names. Despite the recent investment, then, Sissoko represents a differential – a stretch from the norm which breaks up the rigid template we’ve seen formed. With the 33% owned Fellaini closing in on 10 bookings and a two-match ban, he could be the one sacrificed, while others may look to upgrade Puncheon or their budget midfielder to get on board Newcastle’s forthcoming run in the hope that Sissoko can go on delivering at his impressive rate.

Wouldn't it be great if you could view players by their % ownership not just overall, but also within set ranks?

Like if you could see what % of the top 100, 1000, 10000 etc people owned a player as opposed to every mook who registered a team

I didnt think about people just copying the top, that's a fair point.

Maybe if it had ownership overall and also in the top 50,000 (or something), to try and get rid of a lot of the dead teams

For example, I'm just outside the top 5,000 and would be interested to know how many points I am away from cracking the top 5k, 3k, 1k etc...

    Repost.

Hey guys, what should I do with this team?

    Begovic--Cerny

    Johnson--Davies--Zabaleta--Harte--Clyne

    Walcott--Mata--Puncheon--Michu--Bale

    Suarez--RVP--Remy

1 FT, 0.2 in the bank, and 4 players with an upcoming blank gw.

I am deciding between these options.

    A) Davies, Remy --> Turner,Lambert (4 pt hit)

    B) Johnson, Remy --> Turner, Lambert (4 pt hit and will leave 1.9 in the bank to upgrade Davies/Puncheon next gw)

    C) Johnson, Puncheon, Remy --> Turner, Fellaini, Pogrebynak (8 pt hit and will turn my team into 352)

The biggest problem I am having with getting Lambert is I will have 3 Southampton players in my team- what do you guys think?

    Suggestions will be much appreciated!

    Thanks! 🙂

    I ask this sincerely...

Would it be crazy to deliberately go into GW27 with only 10 players?

I know it seems negative but there are not a whole lot of strong candidates sticking out at me this week in terms of attacking players.

It would leave me with 2FT for GW28 and in some ways you might have an advantage in the weeks that come after instead of gambling on a player who you'd be stuck with because you were stressing over a full XI in GW27.

Instead you could play the fixtures with no hits for GW28 and have a better long term plan. It's also clear that many this week will probably take hits that may not pay off.

    Thoughts?

Depends what position the '11th man' is, I guess.

It really depends on the current shape of your team, if there are no issues in the team, and the players have favorable fixtures, going in with 10 can still outscore the average. Though I think saving 2FTs for GW29 would be the best. There might be more than one blanks there, and you don't want to end up with 10 players in 2 weeks in the past 3..

I don't think he is worth the extra. I think he's been lucky to get such good attacking returns this season - look at previous seasons, he gets the odd assist and hardly any goals. He finishes high in the defender tables every year just because he plays week in week out and never gets injured.

I'd say Evans is a bigger goal threat than Evra, the only issue is that he might get the odd rest, but Fergie has said he will be rotating Vidic and Rio because of their injury concerns.

12 points ahead in the league might mean Evans will be saved for the FA Cup and CL games.

Afterall, Fergie will have one eye on the treble, and he rates Evans as his best CB.

Was looking at Lawro's predictions and they have a table of what the PL would be like if his predictions were the real results. A couple that were amusing.
QPR are 7th with 13 wins and 44 points
Swansea are 17th, 4 points from bottom.
    Arsenal 2nd

I think the BBC need some new pundits.

Probably a stupid question but are there teams not playing in GW29... Just noticed a mention of a few but saw FPL is not updated....

There's no blank as of now. Though there are possibilities that there might be depending on the CL and Europa and FA Cup results.

      Depends on FA cup games.

Chelsea, Everton, Arsenal and Fulham likely to get a blank.

I sense 'Did you smash it' would like to see a Nobel prize introduced for FPL and nominate Terry Pullen (who's a genius by the way) as it's inaugural recipient.

Jeez. The human race never ceases to amaze........

I only said that Terry was - and the actual term I used was "some sort of genius".

It was necessarily supposed to be taken so literally.
