Six wins and a draw in their last 10 in all competitions sum up Wigan’s springtime resurgence. This term, the Latics’ annual bid for top-flight survival has been twinned with a FA Cup run which has clinched a place in next month’s final against City and, as is the norm at this time of year, Roberto Martinez’s men present some late-season options for our 15-man squads:

Having turned our attentions to Arouna Kone in the middle of last month, we shine the spotlight on Shaun Maloney this time round. The Scot made his way onto Fantasy radars with a last-ditch free-kick equaliser at QPR in Gameweek 32 and followed that up with the opener in the FA Cup semi-final as Wigan made light work of Millwall. Indeed, over the last nine Gameweeks, the little Scot has found the net three times and also chipped in with four bonus points – compare that with two goals and two bonus points in the first 24 matches and Maloney’s upturn in performance is more than apparent.

Sitting third from bottom, Wigan are three points behind Villa but have a game in hand over the midlanders – luckily for the Latics, the upcoming schedule smiles favourably as they attempt to ease themselves out of the drop zone. Martinez’s side face three home fixtures (TOT, wba & SWA, AVL) in the final four weeks of the campaign, with a double Gameweek 36 also crucial to their chances of picking up the Fantasy points.

While the likes of City and Chelsea may well be plagued by double Gameweek rotation, thus placing question marks over the game time of premium priced midfield options such as Juan Mata, Eden Hazard and David Silva, Maloney looks far too essential to warm the bench if Martinez is to avoid relegation. Classified as a midfielder in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) yet fielded on the left of the Latics’ front three, his out of position appeal, allied with guaranteed game time, makes him an enticing option – all the more so given his 5.1 price tag. While the 6.7 priced Kone is likely to earn significant investment up front, Maloney, with a mere 4% ownership, has the potential to mirror his team mate’s returns and, as Harry Redknapp will attest to, the dead-ball ability to devastate.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Order these strikers in terms of their worthiness as a DGW punt (my other strikers are Tevez and Lukaku)

    Kone
    Ba
    Aguero
    Defoe

    Thanks

So tough to call .. it's all about a hunch. I've gone Ba and I reckon I'll take Kone / Defoe next week for Lambert.. so I suppose I'm saying Ba at the top for me and Aguero at the bottom but I don't think you'll reach a consensus.

Suppose with Ba I'm influenced by his fixture with Swansea this weekend too in which I'm convinced he'll play so purely for the DGW it's Defoe / Kone for me.

      Kone for the safe option

Defoe or Aguero for Flair bets. Aguero possibly a bit safer for the rest of the games.

Depends on whether you think the rest of your team can make up the points. If you think you have a team 30 points better than him captain Bale if you think you don't go Tevez.

You have no chance if he busy up all your players! My plan was to rollover a transfer so I can fire out two new bullets for the DGW and go for someone a little off the radar who could score well.

I've gone with Kone just for the security of starts I was considering ditching Berba for Defoe but with Berbs fixture that doesn't seem great. I was thinking maybe Lennon as another Spurs attacker depending on his game time this week.

    Rafael Zabaleta Wilson
    Mata Hazard Michu Fellaini Osman
    RVP Benteke
    (Flappy, Berba, Davies, Demel)

Doing Fellaini > Bale but need to make an additional transfer to afford it:

Unfortunately would leave me 0.6 and needing to take an 8 point hit.

I'm leaning towards B), only problem is it means I'm likely to play 2 SGW upfront in GW36. Can't imagine taking Berba out when he has RDG at home, and RVP is RVP

I made my first early transfer of the season last night, AND took my first 8 point hit. Discipline be damned.

I feel sort of liberated by it, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the rest of my week...

If you had 2 transfers left for the rest of the season, what would be the choice in this case?
    Playing ESPN fantasy.

    Mata-Hazard-Walcott-Cazorla-Mirallas
    RVP-Suarez-Aguero

    A) Mirallas > Maloney & Suarez > Tevez
    B) Mirallas > Bale & Suarez > Moore
    C) Cazorla > Bale & Suarez > Kone / Defoe

Just won the title and its at his old club I doubt Fergie will rotate him for that. Might not finish it but I would imagine he will start it.

I still find it hart not to see him walking out against his former team. I think fergie will play his strongest sides vs arsea and Chelsea and start big time rotation in the last 2 games where there is nothing at stake for either team playing. I doubt he would want Wenger or Rafa to get easy wins.

I'm just gonna go mental in an attempt to make up the ~70 pts to catch up to my ML leader. Already brought in Tevez, Defoe and Bale. Gonna also bring in Aguero, Hart and Vertonghen next GW. -12 overall in hits, leaves me with a DGW team of:

    Hart*

    Vertonghen*, Davies*, Rafael (Shaw, Demel)

    Bale*(c), Maloney*, Mata*, Michu* (Fellaini)

    Tevez*, Aguero*, Defoe*

    BOOM

I thought about getting one but then figured it would just be another thing I got and used for a little while then left. Also the internet in Ireland is still rubbish so it probably wouldn't be much good.
