Following on from yesterday’s preview movie, which highlighted the Projections and Rate My Team’s Player List feature at work, we now cast an eye over the Build My Team component.

Once again, I got together with Rate My Team’s creator, Chris Atkinson, to demonstrate and talk you through how this feature works in practice. The movie highlights how you can piece together a pre-season lineup and how, once the season is underway, Rate My Team can help not only with transfer strategies but also with selection dilemmas such as the captaincy and bench order.

In the third part of the Rate My Team movie previews we’ll be talking at length on how the tool works behind the scenes, including a full run through of the steps we take to keep it maintained and providing numbers that can help with your lineups.

Just a note for those looking to add their team id’s in order to retrieve their lineups in Rate My Team – as the movie explains, this feature is not available until squads are locked down for Gameweek 1 and made public. Otherwise, of course, we’d all be able to view each other’s teams right now by just adding ID’s into the tool. Rest assured, once Gameweek 1’s deadlines has passed, you will be able to add and save your team ID to transfer your current lineup into the tool for tinkering.

Fantasy Football Scout Memberships are now available for the pre-season price of £12.50.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attacking and defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. As you would have seen in our first movie, you have a players table that can be filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains, your bench and bench order, and allow you to model your future transfers. You’ll see this at play in the movie above.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I remember feeling pretty damn confident of 2 Chelsea cleanies this time last year and look how that turned out.

I'm gonna boldly predict that Chelsea will not keep 2 clean sheets.

Just in case you havent got enough to do Mark 🙂
Any chance of an early preseason Scoutcast ?
I'd love to hear how your teams are shaping up, RVP or no RVP, transfer rumours, essentials etc.
Might be interesting to see how it compares to your actual starting team in a few weeks when the dust has settled.

      Please.

Whoops, not sure how early you want it, pre-season one is usually out in the week before I think, and I'm not sure how much value there would be in one at this stage when so much could still change.

I think Pellegrini's faviourite team for the season will be 4222:

      Hart
      Zabeleta Kompany Nasty Clichy
      Yaya Fernanidhno
      Navas Silva
      Aguero Negredo

However I believe rotation will hit hard therefore the safest option is probably Silva

Can't say I love the Fulham and WHam double up, and at least get Rat if you're doing it, but it's probably not terrible. I would tend to downgrade some of the defense and upgrade Fer and get some more Chelsea in for the double, but if you're really set on that defensive rotation then stick with it, at least it's something different.

Personally I just plain wouldn't go with 4 of them... hazard seems to be a must and I'm not going to be the one to start without Lukaku... Benteke from the start is where I'm questioning it... If you feel you need at least 3, trade out the poorest performer GW2 and then make another trade GW3 to minimize blanks...

so many people are tipping it will be Hazard to explode and price rise... my money is on Rom

Keeping tabs on him sure. Come GW4 sturridge and RVP will mean Hazard to a 6M mid needed for the funds, that price range is poo. I want HBA to replace Hazard so I may have to give in defence but I am insistent on Zabaleta after DGW and with Dawson (spurs) and Arsenal being so cheap I like idea of 2 big defenders

I like it. Pretty flexible with players from all price brackets especially up top. Plenty of captaincy choices. Williams is easily the pick of 4.5s. I think you're better off with the 2 cheap rotating GKs anyway.

Ok, thanks, yeah I'm confident with the Joniesta (Williams) pick as he can do a lot of damage, my only issue with the rotating GK's is that I already have Clyne, but I suppose I'll deal with it somehow

I really hope he gets his chance with us, I can see him featuring in Europa League/Cup Games.

As for the Prem, I think he will be used as an impact sub as he faces heavy competition from Chadli/Lennon/Bale

      Hi everyone,

Time for my first RMT of the new season. I'm gonna go 4-4-2 (contrary to popular thought?) for the most part, spending a fair bit of cash on point scoring defenders...

      Boruc

Mertesacker, Ivanovic, Zabaletta, Coleman / Kaboul

Silva, Meirellas, Hazard, Sterling / Tonev

      Lukaku, RVP (Gayle)

Any thoughts or recommendations on the above would be gratefully appreciated! (particularly around better points scoring defenders in the price bracket)

If you have a 4-4-2 I wouldn't want rotating 4th mids (Sterling is too risk as well btw). Maybe upgrade one of them to say Snodgrass/Mirallas like players then have rotating 4th defenders

Fair point actually cheers. Don't need all 5 defenders to be mid - high price, could drop coleman to Alcaraz, Kaboul to Davies and have 1.5 left to upgrade the mid.

Fine margins though. I think, on the whole, having an expensive defence might be a risky tactic but it just seems like you get so much more bang for your buck for the extra couple of mill compared to the same spent in other areas... :/

No Baines for me (in a Blue jersey, anyway ... ).

I'll have Zaba, Coleman, plus one of those listed above. That's a platinum-level defense compared to the template uber defense being peddled about on here.

      Sczc/Guzan
      Rat/Cole/Koscielny/Coleman/Lovren
      Navas/Cazorla/Hazard/Thomas/Brady
      Sturridge/Lukaku/Lambert

If Rooney moves to Chelsea then there will be some rejigging to get him in ahead of Lukaku.

      Any thoughts?

But anyone could write this. I'm convinced someone, like The Sun, headline caption writer, is making a fortune fabricating transfer stories that we're only too happy to read. It's our equivalent to celebrity magazine type gossip.

Siggy's wasn't as good in his, albeit limited number of, games with Spurs last season. Holtby is quality and could be pushed forward more. Not so sure Dempsey has it at that level any more.
