Following on from yesterday’s preview movie, which highlighted the Projections and Rate My Team’s Player List feature at work, we now cast an eye over the Build My Team component.

Once again, I got together with Rate My Team’s creator, Chris Atkinson, to demonstrate and talk you through how this feature works in practice. The movie highlights how you can piece together a pre-season lineup and how, once the season is underway, Rate My Team can help not only with transfer strategies but also with selection dilemmas such as the captaincy and bench order.

In the third part of the Rate My Team movie previews we’ll be talking at length on how the tool works behind the scenes, including a full run through of the steps we take to keep it maintained and providing numbers that can help with your lineups.

Just a note for those looking to add their team id’s in order to retrieve their lineups in Rate My Team – as the movie explains, this feature is not available until squads are locked down for Gameweek 1 and made public. Otherwise, of course, we’d all be able to view each other’s teams right now by just adding ID’s into the tool. Rest assured, once Gameweek 1’s deadlines has passed, you will be able to add and save your team ID to transfer your current lineup into the tool for tinkering.

Fantasy Football Scout Memberships are now available for the pre-season price of £12.50.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attacking and defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. As you would have seen in our first movie, you have a players table that can be filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains, your bench and bench order, and allow you to model your future transfers. You’ll see this at play in the movie above.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Does he not come into the category of players likely to play one of the DGW games? Along with Lampard, Shurrle, Moses, etc? In which case, you should only pick him if you want him regardless of the DGW. Which is possible.

RMT please, any comments/tips would be awesome, thanks.

    Mignolet (Lewis)
    Mert Luiz Collins (Parr, Chester)
    Bale Walcott Hazard Snod (Thomas)
    Giroud Aspas Lukaku

0.5m in the bank for tranfers to hopefully get RVP in for GW4

Not a fan of Giroud or Aspas but overall it looks pretty solid.

I'm struggling a bit with the strikeforce myself but if Sturridge is fit for the start of the season he seems a better option than Aspas. Of course he's more expensive, J Rod is popular on here and frees up funds. I like the look of Bony but he has tough fixtures. You could also look at Benteke/Weimann but I'm wary of Villa players for the DGW.

I am actually really surprised that Jovetic and Negredo are the same price. Negredo is a much more proven goalscorer, and is just at his peak. Jovetic might be one for the future, but if I had to choose one for this season, Negredo all the way. I just hope he starts most games.

I happen to think he will be first choice. As I said, he is more prolific, and if they had no plans to play him, why sign him for so much? Jovetic is only 23, so they're under less pressure to play him, if that makes sense.

Dzeko might well be this seasons Darren Bent/Danny Graham. Great pre-season but then troll his owners once it all kicks off.

I know. The funny thing is, everyone expected Negredo to be higher by about 0.5-1.0 then when they went in the same, it never really changed much in terms of making negredo get into everyone's sides. The rmt tool somehow thinks jovetic is better. I am on Lukaku week 1, negredo straight after.

Stuart Holden's got injured again in the final of the Gold Cup, apparently "a sprained right knee and will be evaluated later"

The lad can't seem to catch a break (not on Diaby's level though)

    http://thebiglead.fantasysportsven.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Stu-Holden-Gold-Cup-knee-2.gif

Fairly innocuous but the knee seemed to buckle

He was a great talent, it's a shame his career and potential has been diminished by injury.

Limit it to 1 downvote or upvote per hour, unless the article you voted on gets to +/-5? That way if several good posts came one after the other they wouldn't be disadvantaged, and people would have to be selective!

A - Migs will be one of the best values this season, and Lambert is clutch.

B - Has to many unknowns, Sturridge may not be fir and Mannone imo will fight for the #1 spot.

Depends what you'd use the extra 0.5m for.

I'd prefer JRod over Anelka if they were the same price but it depends what you'd use the extra money for.

It would be to get Toure instead of Clyne for the extra 0.5.

Mid is obviously amazing and give you good coverage for the big teams, however you forward group is unproven Lukaku has rotation risk, Jrod will most likely be playing a deeper forward position behind Lambert (still good value, will produce large number of assist, I'm not sure how many goals he will come up with). Giroud could be good value, but if Arsenal sign someone could be a very expensive bench player.

imo I would start Boruc over Mannone.

I like the team. Probably the best RVP-less team I have seen on these threads.

Thanks, I'm basing giroud on the current situation and Jrod I think should outscore his value under pochettino, Lukaku hopefully holds down his place but obv at this point theres alot up in the air if your looking at anyone other than RVP
