Following on from yesterday’s preview movie, which highlighted the Projections and Rate My Team’s Player List feature at work, we now cast an eye over the Build My Team component.

Once again, I got together with Rate My Team’s creator, Chris Atkinson, to demonstrate and talk you through how this feature works in practice. The movie highlights how you can piece together a pre-season lineup and how, once the season is underway, Rate My Team can help not only with transfer strategies but also with selection dilemmas such as the captaincy and bench order.

In the third part of the Rate My Team movie previews we’ll be talking at length on how the tool works behind the scenes, including a full run through of the steps we take to keep it maintained and providing numbers that can help with your lineups.

Just a note for those looking to add their team id’s in order to retrieve their lineups in Rate My Team – as the movie explains, this feature is not available until squads are locked down for Gameweek 1 and made public. Otherwise, of course, we’d all be able to view each other’s teams right now by just adding ID’s into the tool. Rest assured, once Gameweek 1’s deadlines has passed, you will be able to add and save your team ID to transfer your current lineup into the tool for tinkering.

Fantasy Football Scout Memberships are now available for the pre-season price of £12.50.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attacking and defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. As you would have seen in our first movie, you have a players table that can be filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains, your bench and bench order, and allow you to model your future transfers. You’ll see this at play in the movie above.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

That's a useful post. City have spunked a lot of that money I believe and theyre going to have the same issues up front that they had last season. Decent effort by Southampton and Norwich, should be vastly improved on last season.

Just seen the Women's Euro final highlights.. The first penalty Norway got was a shocking dive, disgraceful award. The second penalty they got was iffy too. Justice done missing both. Did anyone else see the second pen miss? As the ball bounced back off the keeper, I thought Norway should have had a third penalty right there.. That was a hack and a half by the German defender. Maybe it was just my eyes, didn't see it in slow mo.

Plenty of picks for Rooney "if" he moves to Chelsea...but what if he stays at United...Is there any evidence that Moyes would condem him to a CDM spot again ?...He could well turn out to be a great pick at 10.5 alongside RVP...who knows ?...only Moyes i suppose...

I know that they're only for bench fodder, but I'm staying well away from Palace and Hull options. Both teams look so poor, and for just .5 more you can actually get a decent option. I cant think of when I'd ever be confident playing a Palace or Hull defender.

    Bench: Boruc, Turner (Nor), Chester.

I think Foster is fine at that price. Will get cleanies now and then and lots of save points. Have the Foster Boruc combo myself.

Team looks fine but I actually worry about Kuns game time. At that cost he must be 100% nailed, but negredo and dzeko are looking sharp and the new manager likes them. Your other two attackers arent great so I'd say your forwards are a tad weak.

Davis, Coleman, Kagawa, Colback, Lukaku, Anelka, all aren't guaranteed to start every game. Though Coleman and Lukaku could pay off imo.

I would drop kagawa down and upgrade a forward to a heavy hitter. To many uncertain on the team, I usually "try" to get off to a strong start just for the confidence boost and team value.

Baines too expensive.. Actually your whole defense is off, do some more reading on this site and you'll be straightened out 🙂

Rest looks good apart from Lukaku captain. He probably wont get two full games and might not even get one. Good punt but not as captain.

Also there are better cheap mids than Britton. Thomas and Kim are two.

I was just thinking about this in the bath. However, I'm not gonna want Cech in my team for the whole season, so he will cost me a transfer eventually. Whether or not it's before or after GW3, it doesn't really matter - I see him no differently to a defender.

Then there's the week 2 dilemna. Old Trafford not an easy place to go to for a clean sheet. Or would you play Boruc that week at home to Sunderland?

I would. I think Southampton could be a good source of cheap cleanies this year. I'm definitely not going to want Cech for the whole season and I'll be keen to transfer him after gw1 to free up funds but it seems a good way to get 4 dgwers and surviving gw3.

Mourinho promised Schwarzer some games so he has a chance to get into the Aussie WC team next year.

Considering Premier League teams playing in Europe don't enter the Carling Cup until the 3rd round (end September) and none will enter the FA Cup until January unless Schwarzer plays in Europe he'll only get a maximum of 3 competitive games this side of Xmas.

Dare I suggest that the DGW might be an ideal opportunity for Mourinho to give Schwarzer an early season start?

Corrigan the more I think about it the more I'm drawn to your cheap defenders post.

I have Migs, Luiz and a load of 4.5 atm, but getting Boruc and Toure saves 0.5, then with Luiz down to Coleman you can have another 1.5, that's 2million saved, only 1 million of Aguero to RvP, or 0,5 off Lukaku to Rooney. But I'm not 100% yet, and it depends on whether Pool buy a new CB

Not a Pool fan myself but I reckon they are going to have to try protect Sturridge a bit as they are going to be so dependent on him for the first 6 matches. Some sub must come on. And if they plan on playing 2 it up front it's going to mean more minutes for Aspas too. I reckon Coutinho will be told to shoot at any half chance too so he's gonna be important for them early as-well.
