Grab the popcorn, it’s Saturday night at the movies. We conclude our Rate My Team preview set with an epic 14-minute, stat filled video outlining just how “Professor” Chris Atkinson’s statistical model works.

Admittedly, this is one for the hardcore number freaks but, even so, we hope this offers some insight into the workings behind the Projections and the Rate My Team tool and the effort we put in to maintain it.

If you missed parts one and two of this series, you can catch them here and here.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attacking and defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. As you would have seen in our first movie, you have a players table that can be filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

For the doubters, both goals have come due to Ronaldo's pace on the counter.

In GW1 they don't face Ronaldo. They face Hooper and Van Wolfswinkel. Neither are blindingly quick

Yeah, Kone has looked rather lifeless and Naismith is a fairly limited player. Not quite sure what to make of this Heitinga at CDM/CB in a 4-3-3 experiment (just like Wigan played late last year). Seem to be defending about as well as Wigan were.

With a lot of confidence. Had a good effort cutting inside on his left foot, and also produced some amazing skill to skin two players and win a free-kick on the edge of the box (could easily have been a penalty)

Kos is the safest option IMO (and should get decent bonus system scores).but Monreal is injured so Gibbs may get a run in the team until he returns - he gets forward a lot.

Going with Merts just because of his height

Pretty much, would place Verm below Kos since he stopped getting forward so much last year (loss of Song to cover his gallops forward possibly).

And Monreal above Gibbs, it's just the injury to Monreal that makes Gibbs temporarily nailed on.

Monreal had started considerably more than Gibbs in the run-in last year - he's 27, Gibbs is 23, Gibbs is still a work in progress that Wenger's bringing through, good as he is.

Get rid Jagielka. It's not good when you have 2 Everton defenders. Norwich attacking looks dangerous. And also Everton play away in first game.

Hmm, not an awful lot about at that price. Could back Routledge/Dyer/Shelvey but they're subject to rotation.

I'd plump for Mark Noble with his set pieces. Should be nailed on to start each game. Although you could go for Ashley Westwood for the DGW and then transfer him out after

You'd be mad to have Michu and not play him, in my opinion. Even against Man United. He's perfectly capable of scoring/assisting against anyone. Sub a defender or Anelka for him

Huge fan of a powerful midfield myself, served me well most times, have to sacrifice in D of course, but your strikers are a little weaker as a result. Not saying they won't do well but maybe nailed-on-ness is an issue. If it were my team then Lambert for the Dzeko/Jelly slot. Good value, reliable for that price, practically nailed on I would think.
