Tottenham’s new recruits and the start of the Champions League group stages were among the hottest topics being discussed by the community over the international break. We also find out how FFS UEFA’s transfer window simulation game concluded and welcome aboard a new moderator to the Fantasy Football Scout team.

Hottest Topics

Tottenham have so many new arrivals following the close of the transfer window that it is hard to keep up with their likely starting XI. Luckily our resident video expert Brutus619 had his finger on the pause button to analyse attacking midfielder Erik Lamela’s displays and assess whether he is the real deal as a Fantasy prospect.

Robin Van Persie continues to divide the community, with one group of players set for glory, while the other bracing themselves for  disappointment. BigFatFrank has decided to give those wildcarders looking to shoehorn the Dutch striker into their team a step by step guide to creating the perfect RVP team. Meanwhile, 7 Shades of Smoke has ben debunking the popular “keep calm and captain RVP” mantra and wondering if it is nothing but a myth.

Elsewhere,Iain_90 ponders whether there’s any weight to the theory of “attacking coverage” across the most offensive teams or if it’s best just targeting certain individuals.

Bonus points and their sudden shine to defenders continues to dominate discussion. King Nemanja is so convinced that the recent glut of bonus points for defenders is no mere fluke that he is prepared to commit himself to a four at the back formation to ensure his team cashes in. For those wanting to follow his lead he’s come up with some great defensive line ups here.

The Champions League is almost here and in our discussion on the best options out there HeyDudes13 has some great budget options to consider  and Konig Luther’s lengthy list in this thread is also well worth looking at.

Worryingly for the community, international injuries have been mounting up this last week, with Liverpool right back Glen Johnson among those possibly destined for a lengthy stay in the physio room. Archie has been running the rule over the candidates who are likely to replace Johnson while he recovers.

Finally, Maxi’s top ten tips for mini-league success provided some useful, albeit sneaky and underhand, advice for winning a mini-league.

Community Leagues

FFS UEFA’s Transfer Window Simulation (TWS) game came to a finale during the international break with Norwich led by The Shadow being crowned TWS Champions. The rest of the top 5 was rounded off by PeppieandFelix‘s Fulham, Liverpool owned by 4vets, Arsenal guided by Zep and HVT‘s Aston Villa. FFS UEFA also tell us that places are still up for grabs in their FA Cup style game. If you are interested sign up here  by the deadline of 11:59pm BST, September 22. Those already involved in the FFS UEFA leagues and those who applied unsuccessfully to be a part of that competition have all been given an automatic space so do not need to apply.

Disappointed no mention of Costa Rica in the round up Jonty.

Finally two weeks have almost passed and I can't take it any longer, so just two questions

    1. Sturridge and Wally will play is everyones opinion right?

    2. Captains choice for this week - Wally, Benteke, Soldado, Sturridge? Currently on Tekkers but I fancy Soldado too. Sturridge I think has a more difficult fixture in Swansea and I think Sunderland will be leaky, but will it be more for Giroud or Walcott?

Asked on last page. Is getting Lamela over Soldado a good choice as Soldado can be replaced by many other strikers whereas there are a few good mids that score goals about.

It's not about whether Lamela is better than Soldado, it's about whether each of them is better than others in the same positions. Getting both is a perfectly good move if you think they will both do well. If I was to only get one then it would be Soldado as he is the target man for several good suppliers

I'm glad Mirallas has finally fallen so I can stop fretting over whether to get rid or not. Funny how we all spent the latter part of last season and all the close season talking about how essential he would be if classed as a midfielder. So what has changed? He hasn't scored for three weeks, same as just about every other midfielder.....

I would love it if he ruins Chelsea's clean sheet, LOVE IT! 🙂

i give top, premier players some time

but for a mediocore relatively unproven player 3 weeks is enough

he may score no doubt but u must have a limit to the time u credit players, now my new punt , wait and see is pablo hernandez

i hope both mirallas and pablo score 🙂

If I'm correct Bale did nothing in the first 3 GW's last season.

Not even an assist I don't think. Learned my lesson and am giving players a bit more patience this year.

In Mirallas's case at £7.5, I'm not expecting the world and would be highly surprised if he doesn't get a goal or two in the next few GW's.

(Must admit I do look at who I could have instead still though).

I remember as I got rid of both of them before they scored big. Fail.

I have 2 free transfers this week so I think I'm right in saying I will lose one next week if I don't use it.

The only transfer I'd want to make is to change Kim my 5th mid. Can anyone suggest a 5.0m mid who has good games in the next few weeks or looks promising as a good 5th mid investment?

How about... B'arfa -> Hernandez? Puts you in a good position for Swansea's upcoming fixtures. I don't really have faith in NCI and Barfa, and having JWP in a WC team is way too risky IMO as he's competing with a much, much better playing in Ramirez.

Otherwise I like it. Of course if Sturr is out you'll need money for Soldaddy.

In the end not many multiple price increases over the two weeks, everyone who played wild card just to add value must be disappointed. Wonder how many of them will end up with either the same side, or will have to hold player they don't really want, to hopefully get the added value in the next couple of weeks.

Any advice on this rabble, i've got alot i would like to change but am trying to hold my WC for now.

    Mignolet, Boruc

    Coleman, Debuchy, Toure, MTurner, Chester

Silva, Walcott, Ben Arfa, Nolan, Morrison

    Giroud, Sturridge, Soldado

    2.4 in the bank

ATM looking at M. Turner out due to bad fixtures and poor form (and the fact that all my defenders except Chester have unfavorable match ups) to an Arsenal defender.

He's been hovering at that for ages. Ridiculous really. But there's also the consensus that WCers are going to bring him in too tomorrow (holding out for that drop) so he mightn't drop at all. But yeah, at the same price I'd get Mert

      anything left in the bank?

It looks a strong team if defenders keep scoring as they have been.

I know Fulham have fantastic fixtures but I am still hesitant to get defensive coverage from them. They leak goals, Hughes is out, Amorebieta is just back from injury. That said thee is not much option at 5.0.

Reither has more BPS at this stage than Hangeland and offers better atk threat (just something to kepp you thinking)

    Boruc
    Zabaleta, Terry, Chester
    Walcott, Silva*, Mirallas, Nolan
    Sturridge*, Soldado, Giroud

    Davis, Morrison, Toure*, Ward
    Bank 1.6m

If any of my 11 don't make it then I could be in trouble given Morrison probably won't start, Toure is a big rotation risk and Ward has United away.

No impact transfers (like RVP United) at any big club, Ozil to Bale at RM, Goetze/Thiago at Bayern - nothing changes, Cavani in a side that already has Ibra, Neymar at Barca - future impact, City transfers just replacements for those who went out...wasteful window.

    3 choices:

    Team 1:

    GK: Mignolet (Davis)
DEF: Zabaleta, Coleman, Koscielny (Chester) (McNaughton)
MID: Walcott, Coutinho, Silva, Brady (Colback)
    ATT: Soldado, Sturridge, Giroud

    Team 2:

    GK: Mignolet (Davis)
DEF: Zabaleta, Shaw, Koscielny (Chester) (Ward)
MID: Walcott, Lampard, HBA, Brady (Ward-Prowse)
    ATT: RVP, Soldado, Giroud

    Team 3:

    GK: Mignolet (Davis)
DEF: Zabaleta, Collins, Koscielny (Chester) (Ward)
MID: Walcott, Coutinho, Hernandez, Brady (Ward-Prowse)
    ATT: RVP, Soldado, Giroud

Of course this just brings the RVP vs. non RVP debate. But even if you don't have a clear opinion on that side of things -> which RVP team is better?

Thanks - any comments appreciated 🙂

Oh and just let me explain my thoughts. Personally, I quite liked the look of Team 3 for the following reason:

          1) Coutinho over Lampard. I think Coutinho is only a week away from a couple of great games. I really like lampard as a player, I'm just not sure about his viability given his likelihood of being rested for some games. If Coutinho is fit there is no doubt that he will play, whereas I don't think the same could be said for lampard. However the main selling point is Coutinho being priced at 9. I really like the look of Lamela as an option and if Coutinho continues not to score in the next 2 weeks, I would be able to switch him out straight for Lamela (also priced at 9) who by that stage would hopefully have secured a starting position.

          Thoughts?
