With the international break behind us, itโ€™s time to reacquaint ourselves with the Sky Sports game, assessing the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point magnets and the current market trends. As always, we also look ahead to the forthcoming Gameweek, offering our preferred captain setup.

Gameweek 3 Man of the Match Awards

Hereโ€™s a match-by-match breakdown of the players that won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Man City vs HullSone Aluko
Cardiff vs EvertonLeighton Baines
Newcastle vs FulhamHatem Ben Arfa
Norwich vs SouthamptonNathan Redmond
West Ham vs StokeJermaine Pennant
Crystal Palace vs SunderlandDanny Gabbidon
Liverpool vs Man UtdGlen Johnson
West Brom vs SwanseaPablo Hernandez
Arsenal vs TottenhamLaurent Koscielny

With a measly 13 goals scored over the Gameweek, itโ€™s perhaps not surprising to find just one forward amongst the list above. Hullโ€™s Sone Aluko was the only striker to claim the MoTM accolade. There are few surprises elsewhere, with midfielders and defenders sharing four awards each. Notably, Stoke winger Jermaine Pennant only needed 12 minutes of pitch time to impress the Sky reporter courtesy of his decisive dead-ball strike in Stokeโ€™s win at Upton Park.

Gameweek 3 Bonus Points

Fulhamโ€™s David Stockdale was the only goalkeeper to achieve bonus points, with 8 saves made in the 1-0 defeat at Newcastle; the shot stopper comes in at a budget friendly 3.8 million and is set to continue between the sticks until the return of the stricken Maarten Stekelenburg.

In defence, a total of ten players fetched bonus, eight for tackles and three for passes completed โ€“ Swanseaโ€™s raiding right-back, Angel Rangel, was the only defender to gain bonus for both and, in addition to his clean sheet and yellow card, the Spaniard earned a respectable 10 points form the 2-0 victory at the Hawthorns.

In midfield, only ten players picked up bonus – eight for tackling and four for passes, quite a significant drop from last weekโ€™s total 16. Unitedโ€™s new signing, Marouane Fellani and Stokeโ€™s Steven Nโ€™Zonzi were the pair of midfielders to pick up bonus in both categories. Indeed, the fact that a member of the Potters midfield managed 61 completed passes hints at the change in style instilled by Mark Hughes at the Britannia.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
WilshereArsenal6.24.42%
ColeWest Ham4.72.62%
ToureLiverpool6.62.55%
MataChelsea91.98%
HazardChelsea8.81.92%

All five players in our table above have suffered somewhat indifferent starts to the season with either injury, the threat of rotation or a combination of both effecting their starts. Chelsea duo Juan Mata and Eden Hazard were in the top five scoring midfielders last season, so itโ€™s perhaps surprising to see so many give up on their potential so early.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
OzilArsenal8.88.80%
GiroudArsenal8.53.83 %
RoseTottenham4.73.63%
RamseyArsenal5.83.31%
RedmondNorwich4.63.29%

Arsenalโ€™s signing of Mesut Ozil has seen a massive 8.8% of managers jump on board without him kicking a ball โ€“ given Santi Cazorlaโ€™s 262 point domination of the game last season, it seems Fantasy managers are eyeing Ozilโ€™s potential to do the same this time around, with Cazorlaโ€™s influence perhaps set to be reduced as a result.

Indeed, Ozilโ€™s arrival, plus Arsenalโ€™s form and fixtures looks to have had an influence on the acquisition of their assets with Olivier Giroud (3.83%) and Aaron Ramsey (3.31%) both picking up a batch of new owners.

Tottenhamโ€™s Danny Rose (3.63%) has featured in the top purchases for three weeks running; seemingly nailed on at left back in a tight defence, with a price tag of just ยฃ4.7 million, he looks almost essential given Spursโ€™ forthcoming run of opponents at the Lane.

Nathan Redmond (3.29%), somewhat surprisingly, finds himself also in the top five transferred in of the back of his goal and man of the match performance in the win over Southampton last week โ€“ with a value of ยฃ4.6 million, it could be that Redmond was the favoured route to help fund a swoop for Ozil.

Gameweek 4 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the armband options for Gameweek 4, we can again highlight two options and, with a Monday night kick-off, thereโ€™s the potential for a three captain Gameweek, should you look to use transfers to switch the skipper.

Captain Option 1

You have a captain playing in Saturdayโ€™s fixtures and use a transfer to switch to a candidate taking part in Sundayโ€™s encounter between Southampton and West Ham; you then use your captain change to select a player from the Monday night clash between Swansea and Liverpool. If you prepared well last time out, you may be coming into this Gameweek with the armband already on Robin Van Persie, who faces a potentially profitable fixture with new boys Crystal Palace. For example:

Our Strategy:
Robin Van Persie โ†’ Rickie Lambert โ†’ Daniel Sturridge

Using the above strategy you would go into Gameweek 5 with the armband on Daniel Sturridge (if fit) who plays on Saturday September 21 at home to Southampton.

Captain Option 2

You have a captain playing Saturday and use a captain change to a player featuring in either Sunday or Monday’s matches. Missing out on three captains but keeping hold of a valuable transfer. For example:

Our Strategy:
Robin Van Persie โ†’ Daniel Sturridge

Using this method you would again go into Gameweek 5 with Sturridge as your captain for the Southampton clash.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Our own Fantasy Football Scout League is currently riding high on top of the Private League rankings. With a ยฃ1000 prize to the winner, you’d be mad not to get involved. To join, visit Sky Sports Fantasy Football and key in League Name: FFScout, League Code: 8000112.

The Fantasy Football Club

If you missed Thursdayโ€™s show, you can still catch Fenners and Merse this evening at 23:30 Skysports One HD, where they will be discussing the previous weekโ€™s Fantasy Football events, chatting to Carlton Palmer and quizzing Barcelonaโ€™s Gerard Pique for his #One2Eleven.

    Giroud, Soldado, Benteke

    4.0, Livermore, JWP, Chester

There. You have it. 4-3-3 with every single line being extremely strong. Pretty much everyone is as secure as it can get. Bench is decent considering what you have in the starting 11, you have a regular 2-3 point mid, you have a cheap def with a chance for some CS in the upcoming gws, you have a punt mid if you feel like he will start. All the "expensive defs will fail" critics can remain silent (your mids are as explosive as possible and you have 3 of them) and you can bring in pretty much everyone.... bar rvp. If you want to go for a 3-4-3 with a mid price mid that is emerging it wont take you more than 2 transfers.

Am I scared of RVP with this team? Hell no.
    Are you?

GW4: A turning point for Soldado owners.

I think that this week will be crucial as far as concerns Soldado ownership. If he "fails" the expectations from a fantasy perspective, FPL manager won't be reluctant to sell him to bring someone else in. Many managers have just kept him because of his favourable fixtures. This is why his price has been steady over these two weeks, in spite of his insufficient performance in 270 minutes played. I know, he scored two penalties, but service to him was really poor.

What do you think? If his price slumps, will you keep him?

Not sure on the defence... Toure could be benched and Burner/Baker are not great replacements.

Same with your MF... too many punts and uncertainties... could work, could fail miserably... I'd want more certainty in my MF.

Your forward line is so expensive it's hampering your choices behind it. Maybe downgrade a forward to beef up elsewhere.

Swansea at home can/probably will score against anyone.

Monday night game under floodlights against a big side. Will be a great atmosphere.

Liverpool can't keep clean sheets forever. And the chances of conceding are only increased with Glen Johnson out, and possibly an unfamiliar CB partnership.

Ok... I really need some help.... I've been away for 2 weeks with no Internet connectivity (myanmar of all places) so haven't got much of a clue as to what is happening...

If you had 2 FTs, 0.4 in the bank and this little lot, what would you do?

    Migs, Boruc

    Zab, Coleman, shaw, toure, Whitaker

Silva, j cole, dembele, Walcott, Barkley

    Rvp, Dzeko, soldado

I know, so August. I'm planning on going Dzeko to Lukaku I seem to remember, next week.

So as not to look too lazy, I've had a look myself.

What do people think to Silva + dembele out and Erikssen and HBA in?

Still leaves me with injured cole and toure....

Silva bandwagons are a trick. I fell for it last year too before the Wigan game. Mistake that was

it just came up on my face book, they have the team like this:

        DDG
        Jones-rio-vidic-evra
        cleverly-carrick
        valencia-fellaini-welbeck
        RVP

I didn't see the presser but i hear it was not very useful at all

Need to replace Silva. Best Tottenham Mid?

I have Kim, wondering if I should get Ward Prowse and then swap Kim for a better mid once I know who to get, plus it would give me an extra .5 to work with.

I like my other mids: Courtino, Walcott, Miralles

    Any advice appreciated.

Wisdom seems to be Erikssen but I'm a big fan of Paulinho. Could be the next fat frank

    Boruc (Ruddy)

Shaw Coleman Toure* Collins (B Turner)

    Walcott Brady Michu Snodgrass (Silva)

    Van Persie Sturridge* (Gayle)

What you think? Used my transfer so is it...

    A) Silva > CHE Mid(Who?) / Eriksen -4
    B) A + Toure > Walker -8 - See more at: http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2013/09/13/sky-sports-focus-34/?hc_page=14#hc_comment_5536201
