Sergio Aguero’s calf injury in the 6-3 win over Arsenal has served up a potential major setback for thousands of Fantasy managers. With Manuel Pellegrini offering us little insight into the severity of the injury and a scan imminent, we can only wait on news from the Etihad. However, resident Fantasy Football Scout physio, Facer, has made a timely return to offer his early view. Analysing the incident involved and Aguero’s reaction and movement, here’s Facer’s detailed report and his take on the likely prognosis.

The incident occurred barely a minute into the second half and gives a clear indication of the mechanism of injury. Playing a one-two with David Silva, Sergio Aguero receives the ball and with one touch plays it back into the path of Silva. Almost immediately Aguero starts to limp and, several seconds later, in an attempt to take the pressure from the injury, falls on to his back. At first glance the incident looked fairly innocuous, but with closer inspection, we see that the former Atletico man didn’t quite have the time to position himself correctly and improvises a one-touch pass into Silva’s run with a subtly excessive rotation at the right hip. This is significant because the contracting Gluteal muscles produce a rotatory force at the hip and, with the studs of Aguero’s right boot planted firmly in the ground, severely restricting movement at the hip and ankles, this force had nowhere to go, resulting in a tear to one of the calf muscles.

As Aguero is lying on the ground his demeanour is interesting. He does not appear to be in a great deal of pain and he is not reaching for the injury. In terms of severity, these are positive signs. Suffering a severe calf strain is like being shot in the back of the leg and Aguero would have hit the ground immediately and would need to have been stretchered off. We then see the Argentine hobble from the field. It is worth noting that, although exhibiting severely restricted movement at the right ankle, Aguero is able to partially weight bear on the injured limb, giving us a further clue as to the severity and likely duration of any absence. Similarly, as Aguero is led from the field, we can observe him palpating the back of his calf towards the ‘belly’ of the Gastrocnemius, suggesting a tear to the meat of the muscle rather than attachments, which heals more quickly. In summary, I would suggest that Aguero has suffered a grade 1-2 calf strain, which would see him sidelined for a minimum of 10 days, but more likely 2-3 weeks. Sadly for his owners, that would see Aguero miss at least the next three league outings.

A Scout Disclaimer: While Facer offers an expert’s view of such injuries, with just a remote assessment to go on, the opinions expressed here should not be taken as fact or acted on with any degree of certainty.

lost on the last page, about to hit the road for 20 min so am just curious to see if I'm being mad or smart..

just did Aguero to Negredo using my 1 FT..have 3.2m available

is Terry + Januzaj -> Chester + Walcott for -8 overkill? would leave me with 1.5m. or do you think I should hold until a price change on Walcott forces my hand?

    thanks late-night crew

this gw we had the same front 8 😯

I'm looking at those same exact moves but I'd be shipping GJ instead of terry. not sure if I should get chester, ward, or another def 4.5 or less. I might wait a week though and do it for -4 though

Literally the same exact thinking. Ive got Walcott and want to get silva though. Not sure its worth it this week though. Januzaj looked good and united and have a good fixture. Let me know what you decide.

he did and I think he will continue to play while RVP is out (unless Moyes is stupid and starts Young)

my alternative would be to ship Ravel and get an extra .2 to work with..

    Good Morning DZ!
Just did Aguero to Rooney. Lets see how that goes.Decided against Negredo because i think he will be rested in one of the games surely ,with both Dzeko and Jovetic waiting to get a role. Plus how many double digits did Negredo get?Agreed he is good for people trying to get the Hazard,Silva ,Wally template but i have all of them. Hope my decision pays off.

PS:I had predicted the minimum 2 weeks injury yesterday. It was kind of obvious it was a calf tear and googling it will give you the correct extent.I think its probably a grade 1 calf tear, with the recovery period of 2-3weeks as Physio said. But if its a Grade 2,add on another 3 weeks.

Exactly!the way my team is shaping up, i feel i will do the Jan WC in the last week.If Aguero returns soon i can get him back without much changes to my squad. If i bring in Negredo i will be tempted to spread up the funds.

Big phil won EVERYTHING w/ palmeiras, gremio in brasil + world cup w brasil's worst team in 2002 of the 5 world cups (he recovered ronaldo against the masses)...and still suposedly by xyz reasons of drogba etc he got sacked at che. funny to say the least.

I think you need Arsenal midfield (Ramsey, Walcott, Ozil)

but the only way to do that is downgrade Aguero.

Waiting on aguero could be bad, it dpends how long he's out for. If its 2 weeks you have to sell him, thats like kepping 12m on the bench and losing all the value., while everyone else has top strikers to replace him

You could probably bring in Lukaku for Aguero and then upgrade one of your mids to Ramsey, but then you'd have a very conventional/template team.

Its important to factor-in the players your opponents have on their teams also .....

As you mentioned - you are trying to beat "some friends" not 3+ million players

Are you chasing or leading your league ?

im currently 3rd, 6 points off top we have quite similar teams (most have suarez and yaya, alot of everton defenders), i suffered not having suarez as my captain. i just need something different to set me apart if you know what i mean

if need for Eve D-fence, go for who: thx

    1--Terry > Coleman/or Jagielka
    2--Williams > Distin
    3--Migs > Howard

    Dfence now is:
    migs boruc
    terry - williams - ward - baker - clyne

thnx. indeed williams fix r terrible now.
could do williams > coleman but that would be a hit -4.
thinking avoid the hit -4 and go williams distin no?
i know distin is just a bet on CS and random bonus as the bulk of bonus pt would b jagielka, coleman , and rest of forwrds.

He may rise once, or not at all.

Most active players have been thrown a curveball with Aguero out, so unless they had 2 FTs saved up he won't be a priority for people. Also, he has Chelsea next which isn't that enticing. If it were Fulham at the Emirates people would be throwing themselves in front of trains to try bring him in.

He's kind of flying under the radar as well since his 2 goals were overshadowed by the 6-3 scoreline.

Wait and see how much time Lampard gets in the league cup (if any.. he didn't play in their other league cup games).

He didn't play at all this weekend so Jose may be resting him for the Christmas run. He's as likely to score against Arsenal as any other Chelsea mid if he gets the gametime.

I have him too, but would not do a -4 for Silva.

Aguero to Negredo is looking very tasty. Hoping Kun has a big drop in price so he's affordable when I want him back. I bought I'm ages ago at 11.2 so I need a big drop to get him back. 0.3 drops for the next 3 weeks would do me nicely

Why? Negredo is no Aguero and the goals seem to get spread out among plenty of other players when Aguero is out. And now Jovetic is healthy. What is so attractive about Negredo?

he's a solid player..for whatever reason he hasn't performed when Kun is off the field, but now Silva and Kompany are back. City are a strong unit again and have cover for Kun. Pelligrini picks his players on merit, Negredo will play and will do well if you ask me

    Coleman vs Jagielka
right now bonus Coleman has 12 vs jags massive 17.

If coleman does not have a gol notr assist, and Eve has a CS, TREND would continue for 3 bonus pt for Jags, no?
    or
w/ recent perfomances by Coleman, could shift for equal chance of bnus pt for Coleman as is for Jags?

ok thx. bit in doubt if to go for coleman, jags, distin
to go for coleman/jags i need to drop terry, where as distin i only upgrade williams.
dont want to do -4 hit to get eve dfence.

        seems to me
coleman edge is the gol/asist but looses out in the bonus pt to jags, lukaku, baines wen bak, mids etc it seems unless recent performances wil tilt the bonus appeal to him.
jags bonus leader if when cs
        distin only cs appeal.
