Injuries have ripped apart the “template” teams in the last week or so, creating a variety of discussions in the community, which chew over potential replacements. With the January wildcard beckoning, our focus on the week’s hot topics revisit chat on the options in midfield and goalkeeper rotation pairings. In addition, a late entry from today’s activity took a wry look at the some of the characters that make up the Fantasy Football Scout community. As usual, we round things off with a check on the latest from our community leagues, congratulating an FA Cup winner along the way.

The Hottest Topics

Aaron Ramsey’s injury at Upton Park looks to have put the Welsh wonder out of the picture, causing much consternation and deliberation amongst his army of owners. From the community reaction it’s clear that some will gamble on clinging on to avoid the cash loss, but for others the setback meant he was shown the door. Among those on hand to offer advice on a sensible Ramsey exit strategy was @ocprodigy with the in-form Theo Walcott and Yohan Cabaye cited as ready-made replacments.

Even before Ramsey’s injury, the community was considering a dramatic ditching of his services. Earlier in the week TW asked whether now was the best time for Fantasy managers to cash in on Ramsey’s price rise and look elsewhere.

Those considering a downgrade to liberate funds could find some timely advice via a consideration of budget midfield options with Floydy_Floyd tipping Liverpool starlet Raheem Sterling to prosper in 2014. PTC meanwhile has his eye on the assist potential of Barry Bannan as the Pulis-inspired Palace revival goes through the gears.

It wasn’t just gaps in midfield that were opening up over Christmas. Romelu Lukaku may have finally broken out of his dry spell with the winner over Southampton today but, having gone five starts without a goal before today’s fixture, there was plenty of fidgeting amongst his owners in the community. In the Lukaku debate , Marr pointed to form over fixtures, while SkyCell, perhaps wisely, gave the Belgian the next three outings to prove his worth. Maybe today’s goal has changed the landscape, although almost 100,000 shed his services before yesterday’s deadline.

Elsewhere, Nice to Finally Michu gazed into 2014 to assess the best goalkeeper pairings on offer. His excellent post looks at the best placed pairs over the next ten Gameweeks, with Sunderland’s Vito Mannone and the Gunners Wojciech Szczesny among the standout options on offer.

Finally, JDoyles profiling of some of the FFS community “characters” hoovered up votes and raised smiles aplenty as Gameweek 19 drew to a close. Are you amongst the poster personality types in his breakdown?

The Community Tournaments

FFS UEFA’s FA Cup competition has been one of the community’s largest to date. Finally a winner has emerged with Fantasy Football Scout community moderator Ryan’s Tranmere Rovers beating Fantasy Kid’s Luton Town in a nail-biting conclusion. There was further joy amongst our moderator team, with Evs being crowned champion in FFS UEFA’s Premier League H2H competition.

HeelsOverHead’s Worst to First 2 Million Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five game weeks, now has 19 teams within a rank of one million and seven in the top 250,000. With an overall rank of 70,106 Teltzham Hotspurs is in the lead.

My team for GW20, yep that's right I'm playing 5 defenders:

    Guzan (Morrison)
    Gabbidon, Kompany, Bardsley, Mertesacker, Coleman
Walcott, Yaya Touré (Lallana) (Januzaj) (Morrison)
    Suárez, Negredo, Rooney

did Suarez look tired today? Will he be blank against an in form Hull side or will he be subbed off with liverpool 2 up on 60 mins?? Rooney scores against spurs usually and Lukaku would be his usual trolling self by waiting to deliver hefty score after no one expects it anymore and Walcott could explode against out of sorts managerless Cardiff. How many more reasons do i need to NOT captain Suarez at home to Hull??

A is terrible. Need nailed on players at that price.
B is good. Kos is awesome.
C is obv. good. Coleman is a very attacking wing-back. Wont continue to score as much, but assist returns at least.
D Koscielny instead of Mertesacker. He is not worth the extra money.
E Consider getting in Zabaleta if you don't have him.

      The amazing 3+2 atm: Kos,Zab,Coleman + Burner,Chester

Little help, guys? I'm really bad at double transfers. Have 2 freebies in the bag to prepare for the next couple of weeks.

    Chesney / Mannone
    Caulker / Coleman / Jagielka / Mertesacker / Terry
    Januzaj / Hazard / Nasri / Mutch / Rambo
    Lukaku / Suarez / Rooney

    0.5 saved.

Hoping to hold out for the wildcard late in the window - eying up a return for Aguero with the card, so want to keep things ticking over without many more big changes until then. Keen to hold Rambo as stand to lose >1m with a sale; don't have faith in Wally; and spending big on the back line has worked well for me so far, so not intending to abandon that strategy, just tidy up a bit with the fixture book.

On my out list: Caulker, Jagielka, Terry, Januzaj, Nasri
Most wanted: Henderson, Navas, Cabaye, Evra, Debuchy, Barkley

Any ideas on what to prioritise?

Barkley plays 2 games in 3 and blanks a lot, Navas is a decent punt. Personally I think wally is FPl gold

Sterling, Barkley, Henderson and Caulker imo.

Don't think Ravel is consistent enough, Zaha hasn't played enough, JRod will be overlooked however well he plays. Clyne and Shaw have too much compeitition for their spots.

I have the following players that either are ineligible to play or potentially won't start next GW:

    Silva (sus)
    Rooney (inj)
    Clyne
    Kolarov (not first choice?)
    Dzeko (not 1st choice)
    Hazard (rotation?)
    Barkley (rotation?)

I figure I need at least four of the above to start. Which do you think is the best move on that basis?

    A) Kolarov ----> Koscielney

    B) Dzeko ----> J. Rod

Although I only just bought Silva and wouldn't lose value if sold, I'm inclined to hold on to him.

When he returns he's a strong option. The Villa game looks a good time to get onboard.

Is it worth taking Yaya out to put in Walcott on a FT?

Can't get him in the team without taking a hit

may seem an odd statement but bar Carrick I actually think Thud might be better than any of the mids currently at United

Best exit routes for Dzeko one GW punters?

The worry is, he is rather cheap, so if you don't have a lot in bank, you probably have to take a hit and lose some valuable assett to get a top striker.

J.Rod has two home fixtures and has scored well this season.

Thinking of him for short term too. I'm also considering keeping Dzeko for a while and going with 4-4-2 this GW and maybe 3-5-2 the next. I currently have Walcott-Whippingham-Silva-Cabaye-Hazard and could do Whit -> Henderson if I also did Walker -> Koscielny. Or Dzeko -> JRod for that matter, which might be the better option, hmm... I only need a little cash to do Whit -> Henderson and I think it would give me a midfield to keep for a long while.

An arsenal defender is looking very sensible, which is why I may keep Dzeko this week and hope he gets minutes.

come wc, would you rather have Nasty or Kos?

My plan plan is Coleman to play every week Ward and Chester either and bench fodder (with Evans in) or to rotate with MOlsson, plus 1 other for around 5.5

GW 23 seriously make me reconsider my WC time. I think GW 22. GW 23 if needed than make transfer. No point in making long term decision on WC based on one week. I think GW 22 or 24 is the best. I have to give Lukaka last chance against Nor so I believe will go WC in GW 22. 21 it looks like too early.

Only thing that scares me is that I might be sooo drunk on 1st of January and do some mad choices hahaha
