Daniel Sturridge and Steven Gerrard grab the goals as Liverpool edge past Sunderland at Anfield. Adam Johnson climbs off the bench to play a part in the visitors’ consolation strike. Nikica Jelavic nets again for Hull, whilst the defensive worries build for West Ham ahead of a tough run of matches:

Sturridge and Gerrard Hog the Anfield Headlines
Whilst Luis Suarez had to make do with no more than a mere assist in last night’s narrow win over Sunderland, Daniel Sturridge and Steven Gerrard grabbed a goal apiece as Brendan Rodgers’ side won for the seventh game in succession. It’s four goals in four now for Gerrard, whose dead-ball abilities came to the fore yet again against Sunderland, with the 9.4-priced midfielder finding the net from a superbly taken free-kick.

Maximum bonus points for both goal scorers will have pleased their owners even further, whilst Gerrard’s growing ownership will also be relieved with his failure to earn a yellow card. The Reds’ skipper, who sits on nine bookings for the season, still has to navigate the next three league matches without picking up another caution – fall foul of the referee’s wrath and he’ll earn a two-match ban.

Sterling’s Appeal Waning
Elsewhere in the Merseysiders midfield, Raheem Sterling was benched for the third game in four since Brendan Rodgers moved to a diamond formation behind Suarez and Sturridge. The youngster had previously started 15 straight league matches from Gameweek 13-27 but has found himself a peripheral figure as Rodgers turns to Philippe Coutinho as his chief creator at the tip of the diamond. With Spurs, City and Chelsea in their next five fixtures, Liverpool’s defensive prospects are somewhat dented and with Sterling looking unlikely to guarantee game time, the Reds’ appeal looks limited to their premium-priced trio for the run-in.

Poyet’s Change of Tactics Leaves Johnson Benched
The wide man’s owners will be worried by a turn of events which saw him omitted from the starting line-up for the first time since Gameweek 20 last night. Gus Poyet’s decision to shift to 3-5-2 in order to stifle the hosts’ attack saw Emanuel Giacherrini handed a rare start, with Johnson afforded just 30 minutes to make a difference at Anfield. Encouragingly, he did just that – emerging from the bench to supply the assist for Ki Sung-Yeung’s consolation and with Sunderland still left with five home games still to follow, the Black Cats boss will be expected to re-install Johnson to his first XI as his side look to go on the offensive.

West Ham’s Resilience Slipping
Last night’s 2-1 win over Hull means the Hammers have failed to produce a clean sheet in the last six. Having been dropped against Stoke two Gameweeks ago for Winston Reid, James Collins, who produced an impressive 36 points between Gameweeks 23-26, was once again handed a start by his manager but the centre-back hobbled off just eight minutes into the game and has now emerged as a doubt for the weekend. Reid is also believed to be a doubt, with reports suggesting he missed last night’s match with a stomach bug. Despite James Chester’s calamitous own goal handing the Hammers a much needed victory, it’s clear that there’s better defensive value lying elsewhere from Upton Park at the moment – with Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and City still to follow, many will be looking elsewhere for budget backline options.

Jelavic Nets Again
A somewhat fortuitous goal helped the Croatian take his tally to four strikes since arriving at the KC in the winter transfer window. Priced at 6.7, Jelavic squares up to Stoke and Swansea next before a Gameweek 34 blank – following that, Steve Bruce’s side have Fulham and a double Gameweek 37 which may bring their assets back into consideration. The Tigers must do without Allan McGregor for the next two matches, though – he will miss the next couple of league after picking up his second red card of the season last night.

Hazard would be great, but where are you going to get the money? Hard to see anybody you could downgrade to free up that kind of cash... take a punt on Oscar and hope he's back in form? Boy likes to shoot.

Yeah, those kind of decisions can really screw you over...

I dunno, might be worth the sacrifice to just say f-it, downgrade Cahill or Demi and upgrade Mata -> Hazard. It's not pretty, but Hazard could run riot over the coming fixtures, Cahill and Demi are unlikely to.

Currently own Coleman, Dzeko, Yaya, Zabaleta, Mannone and Bardsley (with Colback as a bench-warmer).

This week, looking to get Barkley, save the FT the week after and bring in Lukaku for Sturridge for the DGW while Liverpool play Man City. Will be a risk, but I think Gerrard/Suarez will more than cover the spread for the remainder of the season.

That will give me a bang tidy 8 DGWers for GW34, although may not play Bardsley depending on Sunderland's form over the next few.

    Yaya Hazard Sterling Bakuna Silva
    Suarez Sturridge Lukaku

and I have a FT and 2.4 in the bank. I believe Sterling and Chambers need to go but which one first? What should I do this week?

    1) Save FT
    2) Replace Sterling with Mutch/Arnie/Snoddy/Lallana/Other
    3) Replace Chambers. Suggestions please.

really not sure how to invest in city.
    A) 1 def, 1 mid, 1 striker or B) 2 mids, 1 striker or C) 2 strikers and one mid.

I know most are leaning towards A) but the way i see it attacking returns with city are more nailed on than defensive returns so a yaya/nasri double up could be more profitable than going demichelis over cahill for example.

and then there is the aguero conundrum. i already have dzeko and might want both if aguero comes back firing. what are other people's plans?

I think I badly need City defender..so which option I should take?

A)Gerrard to Nasri, and Smalling to Demichelis

B)Sturridge to Rodriguez or Bony,so Smalling to Zabaleta, and have enough for Nolan to Silva 🙂

    Current team:Boruc,McGregor-Azpi,Distin,Smalling,Vlaar,Chester-Yaya,Hazard,Gerrard,Nolan,Brad Johson-Suarez,Sturridge,Lukaku...0.0 ITB

I think it's okay, I'd save and re-asses next GW. I think I'd rather have Gerrard over Nasri this GW. Ditching Sturridge is really dangerous I reckon, might do it around GW34 though but certainly not now.

    Boruc
    Cahill Coleman Azpil
    Hazard Yaya Silva Sterling
    Lukaku Sturridge Suarez(c)

    Davis; Demel, Puncheon, Dann

How does this look for the weekend?? Have to cement this in now as going off to Rome in a bit.

Should I Play Demel over Sterling?

So after a dire start to this season, i'd say due to bad luck and my stubbornness over Ramsey, Yaya and Soton defence, I was sitting at a rank of over 1.9M at GW8.

But with only 3 red arrows since then, including a run of 13 green, i'm now sitting at 56K, on course to beat my rank of 25K from last season.

Cheers all for the help! 😀

I'm sticking with Lukaku for sure, but I'm tempted to do Sturr -> Aguero for GW34.

Thats an interesting and one i may consider myself actually, as my ML leader has neither Aguero or Lukaku.

We'll see how little Kun does fitness wise, but it could be major for the DGW if he's back on track.

On the assumption of unlimited money, which defenders would you chose right now and in which formation?

    Example:

    "4-3-3 = Coleman / Terry / Azpi / Zabaleta"

Surprised at the interest towards DeMichelis here. Is he really assured of his place when Nastasic is fit? Also you can get Kompany for a mere 0,4 more and he's as nailed on as they come and probably more of a goal threat.

Easily the highest on average. Scored 159 a few years back for a top 2k GW rank. Scored more and only got 36k GW rank.
