Having analysed those teams with Strong upcoming schedules yesterday, the second part of this week’s look at the upcoming fixtures focuses on those sides with less fortunate run-ins. Newcastle face a tough task to turnaround their poor form, Liverpool are set for a couple of tests against their title rivals, whilst those eyeing up Man United could decide to hold fire for now:

Newcastle

Newcastle GW33

Alan Pardew’s side had struggled enough from Yohan Cabaye’s departure to PSG but the recent loss of Loic Remy to suspension and injury has simply proven too much for the Magpies. Newcastle have scored just one goal in their last seven games without the Frenchman, though his manager is optimistic he could come into contention this weekend.

Whilst a potential return for their top scorer is good news, the remaining schedule doesn’t give Pardew too much to smile about. Games against Man United, Arsenal and Liverpool, in addition to a trip to the Britannia, where Stoke have lost twice under Mark Hughes, indicates the tough task ahead for the Tyneside team. With Tim Krul and Mathieu Debuchy still injured, the Magpies’ defence looks very shaky and not an advisable investment. Moussa Sissoko blinked onto Fantasy radars for a while but has since gone back undercover. If Remy does indeed return for the weekend, he will need to hit the ground running at full tilt to justify any investment – in all likelihood, most managers will be eyeing up strikers with a double Gameweek in preference to the Frenchman.

Liverpool

Liverpool GW33

The fragrance of optimism currently infusing the Merseyside air right is very understandable but the Reds have the toughest task of any of the title claimants. Brendan Rodgers’ side face Man City and Chelsea in the next four, and whilst you couldn’t rule them out of those games, the goal-fests we’ve come to expect of Liverpool may not be in evidence against either of their main rivals.

Fantasy managers sitting on two or even three of the Reds main attackers have a tricky decision on their hands as they ponder whether to swap for players with kinder schedules over the next four Gameweeks. Luis Suarez looks unlikely to leave any sides but Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge could find themselves expendable in their owners’ eyes and Raheem Sterling’s game time has been so patchy of late that holding onto the winger looks unwise regardless of fixtures. The defence has toughened up lately, with three clean sheets in the last five, but Simon Mignolet may be relying more on save points and Martin Skrtel’s goal threat will be needed to boost his production. Budget defender Jon Flanagan has made the left-back spot his own but owners will be benching him for the visits of the title rivals – few will be looking to purchase at this point.

West Ham

West Ham GW33

A 2-1 win over Sunderland on Monday all but assured the Hammers’ Premier League safety – and a good job too. Sam Allardyce’s side face four of the top six in the last six Gameweeks, with only a home game with Crystal Palace and trip to West Brom offering the Upton Park outfit some respite. The widely-owned Kevin Nolan will be hard pushed to reward his backers, while Andy Carroll couldn’t have picked a tougher time to come into form. Clean sheets are also likely to be thin on the ground and the time looks to be up on budget sensation Adrian, while Guy Demel and Winston Reid look unlikely to deliver many more shut-outs over the run-in.

BE WARY OF

Norwich
A loss to Swansea was the last thing the Canaries needed as their supply of remaining ‘winnable’ games dwindles. Any remaining owners of Martin Olsson, John Ruddy or Robert Snodgrass may be minded to hold for the next two against West Brom and Fulham, especially with the latter’s goalscoring form, but with games against Liverpool, United, Chelsea and Arsenal to end the season, Chris Hughton’s side won’t find many Fantasy backers for the run-in.

Stoke City
Mark Hughes has defied his detractors and made a good fist of turning Stoke into a different team than the one he inherited. The Potters have now lost just one of their last nine games (against Man City) and have three wins on the bounce, but a weekend trip to Stamford Bridge and game against Spurs in the next four somewhat lessen the immediate appeal of Sparky’s brave new world. The fixtures around those games (against Newcastle and Cardiff) could still prove profitable and Fantasy managers may opt to rotate the likes of Marc Wilson at the back. Further up the field, the situation is uncertain. Charlie Adam was benched upon his return from a three-match ban last week, Jon Walters returns from suspension this weekend to add to Hughes’ options, while the in-form Peter Odemwingie is frustratingly classified as a forward across the Fantasy games. Marko Arnautovic could be a real punt, though, with a goal and two assists in his last three outings.

Man United
Pulling a rabbit out of the hat to stifle Bayern Munich last night, David Moyes’ team will be rightly full of confidence going into this weekend’s game at St James’ Park. But a blank Gameweek afterwards followed by a difficult trip to Everton means that buying into the rising stock of Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata might be best postponed until Gameweek 36, when the schedule turns very much in their favour. The United defence could come into consideration at that point, too, though if the likes of Rafael, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans recover from injury anytime soon, Moyes’ defence may be tricky to second-guess.

I'd agree with this, except for that he was not bought but signed for free. And it was almost accidental. Lucky Wenger.

Only competition, to my mind, comes from Fernandinho. Both are the missing piece of a midfield puzzle that makes the team work. I'd rather say Flamini precisely because he came for free, but if we're asking for the best buy, then it must be Fernandinho who had to be bought.

Surely you have to take into consideration price? £35m for a player in his late twenties who is more a cog than a star. Mental.

But it was always a question of whether they can find the player who would make their midfield functional. Mostly to pair with YaYa. If they find that, he will always be worth the price. Fernandinho indeed proved to be the player they needed. So, £35M to get a team worth hundreds of millions of pounds to work? Small price.

legally to buy someone you do not need to do it with monetary value, you can buy someone for a promise, or for a benefit to the other party. the other paries benefit was losing his wages, plus free transfers come with considerable money, i or you (you might ;P) couldnt have just completed the deal.

Of course signing someone costs money, but that does not equal buying. Not all that costs is buying. They do not buy him from the agent. The agent represents the player and will continue to do so despite the contract with the club. If there is a signing on fee, that is part of the salary paid to player. Players, to be accurate, are not bought. Their contracts are bought out. That's what we mean when we say someone is bought. And Flamini was free of all contract when he came to Arsenal. There was no single act of buying.

Loans seem to have been more successful eg Lukaku and Remy.

As for best buy. I will go for Shane Long. Whilst he hasn't set the world alight Hull were in big trouble form wise when him and Jelavic signed. Those signings have helped keep them up. Also the loss of Long to WBA has dragged them.below Hull.

A second shout is Peter Odemwinge. Expected nothing but he has scored the goals to keep Stoke up.

Cardiff (or rather Vincent Tan)'s handling of Cornelius was embarrassing. Releasing a statement detailing why he was a waste of money having already leaked a story calling him a Toyota when he asked for a Jaguar.

It would be no surprise if other decent young players say 'no thanks' to Cardiff in the future if this is how they are treated if they don't hit the ground running.

I don't think those count so much as bad buys as they count as badly handled buys. It's not the players fault that he is bought by a manager and then not even listed. A bad buy is a player who get his chance and doesn't deliver. Plus is expensive relative to that. Dobbie & Marange signed for free, right?

Not sure I agree. Surely a bad buy isn't dependent on the player being a bad player or performing badly and is more down to the buying club. So buying two players who both aren't even registered by the club surely count as bad buys.

For starters, neither one of them was bought. They were out of contract and signed for free.

So that already means they weren't bad buys. Second thing is where we simply disagree. To me a bad buy must somehow do badly. It is not enough that the club completely screws things up after buying, because the buy itself wasn't then demonstratedly bad, only what they did or more like did not do with what they bought. Either of those signings could have been very good. What was not good was to not register a player you have just signed. Either register or do not sign.

To me, definitely Soldado. Price so high relative to quality. The strange thing is that this was all so foreseeable. A guy whose only thing ever has been finishing, and in that he is just good, not great, already close to 30, never played well in big matches, only has history of scoring against lesser teams for a clearly superior team that can create a clear cut chance after another. You bring that guy to play essentially bigger teams and better defences and expect that great things will happen? That was known to be the worst signing since the beginning.

Just found this update on Aguero on the Manchester city forums..

Back in squad for Southampton reports Stuart Brennan in the MEN. Won't be started but place on the bench with a view to starting him at Anfield.

        i like this part

"it appeared Aguero was losing his fight to be ready for Southampton when he said in a TV interview: “With this recovery I am trying to do my best to be able to play again but I cannot do it in a hurry.”

But it transpired that interview was recorded last week and this week Aguero has stepped up his recovery programme and has trained with the full squad"

    Noone possibly back for palace

Craig Noone will pull on his new yellow Adidas boots for the first time in Premier League action when Crystal Palace come to Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday.

The flying winger was forced to watch the dramatic 3-3 draw against West Brom at home and admits: “It was devastating to stay at home for such a huge match - I was booting a football around my living room in delight when Mats Daehli equalised.

“I’m ready to play my part and would love to play against Palace. That is potentially one of the biggest matches of my career so far. It’s not a glamour game against Manchester City or Manchester United, but Palace at home means everything to us.

Noone stayed at home for treatment on his groin injury when the Bluebirds went to the Hawthorns and had no time to get there in time.

“I wanted to play against Liverpool and West Brom, but in the end it wasn’t possible,” said Noone. “As much as I would have loved to play it wasn’t worth the risk. I must be fit for the run-in and if the manager needs me this Saturday I am ready.

I love players like Noone and Mutch...It really doesn't take a genius to know that Hazard, Yaya, Suarez and co will get a lot of FPL points...the real quality in this game is knowing when to pick the minnows...

is mourinho justified in moaning about strikers? 30 mill on willian to snatch him from AVB, 25 mill on matic in an area where chelsea are ok and the decision to send lukaku on loan again...

he could have easily bought in a 30-40 mill striker. his own fault.

He put all his eggs in one basket by chasing Rooney. After that failed there was no way back so he went for the short term option. It is easy to say he could have spent it on a striker. But with a week to go of the transfer window what world class striker could he have signed for £30m?

you never know what really hapened, what if he spoke to Rooney and he said he wanted to join Chelsea and that United had lined up to get someone to replace rooney but the deal fell through so they kept him.

If they get Costa next season, then all is well, in my eyes. Kind of a suck it up this year for a more prosperous future campaign.....or the hopes of a better future, anyways. In reference to Matic, I think he was worth every penny.

Willian is the one I'm not so sure about. He looked pretty good in spots today, but in general, I don't rate him that high in regards to his importance to Chelsea.

I don't think he's over the hill. Probably not at his best and still injury prone, but reckon he could still do a job. Imagine Chelsea with RVP taking all those chances instead of Torres. 😆

As long as the plan involves selling one of them it might work. Saf had figured out they couldn't play together and either played roo in Def mid or on the wing or dropped completely in order to win the league.

Imagine if Moyes dropped rvp or roo? The Utd fans would revolt! He really has the impossible job imo

Southamton faced Norwich, Tottenham and Newcastle in their last three. All three clubs have been up and down lately. I think City focusing on a title push (at home) is a different beast so my opinion is that southampton probably won't score. Rodriguez had far more space at the weekend than the likes of Kompany will allow him at the Etihad. And the Liverpool fixture is part of a double, the other half of which is tasty and after which is the most comfortable run in.
Pellegrini also made quite a point in one of his pressers that City would become more defensive for the end of the season, something we've seen as Silva's average playing position has remained the same even though he's playing 'in the hole'.

I see you have Lukaku* with a star, if you're thinking of shipping, Benteke would be delicious this week 😉

Otherwise, if you want to ship AJ, you could go for De Guzman as a differential, or for Eriksen if you want to go down that route but you know what he's like.. Great player in a mental, rotating, out of form team.

Team looks solid enough, no outstanding transfers to be made, I'd save 1 transfer for next week if possible.

Personally if I were you, I would 100% do Sturridge -> Benteke / Bony.

I expect Sturridge to ease off on the points with his run in of fixtures and Suarez on form, and a lot of people will be shipping after 34 for Rooney anyway so why not take a 2 week punt on someone?

TEKKERS! 😮 I kind of like the Sturridge -> Benteke punt, hehe. That is actually really tempting. If Aguero is in the City squad this weekend, I'll consider it, but it means I gotta drop Yaya -> Nasri in order to get Aguero next GW. So would be a one-week punt.

Sure you only want Benteke for the Fulham game anyway 🙂 I'd estimate that Benteke will outscore Sturridge by 4+ this week, (although now that I've said that Liverpool will win 0-5 at Upton Park).

Yeah, the problem is that the GK transfer isn't just for fun, it's to free up cash so I can hold on to Yaya. I want to sit around with Nasri Yaya Aguero for the double you see. If I spend my FT on fun and games this GW (Benteke), I'll be left with some super-tough decisions to make in order to shoehorn Kun in.

Look at it this way, every transfer is worth 4 points, whether its a free transfer or a hit, just value your 2 FTs as 8 points credit for transfers.

Sturridge -> Benteke could be like a free transfer this week as you could gain back the 4 points by Tekkers outscoring Studge, so then you'd have more points to spend on transfers, get me?

It might mean you have to take an extra hit later on for the GK transfer if you need extra funds, but that's not an urgent problem at the moment and you don't know if you'll definitely need all of the funds. So I'd go with the Studge transfer and hope tekkers outscores him by a goal, which is very likely this week.

"Very likely" is pushing it, but I see your logic. I'll treat it as a cheeky punt for a -4 hit, and I do really like it, but not sure I'm risking it at this point of the season 😉 Thanks!

Hehe, star indicates they are DGWers 😀 So not thinking of shipping. Not really looking for punts at this point either, I'm neck and neck with my rival so I'm thinking I'll just keep playing it safe and grind up some points. Definitely saving 1 FT... don't want to ditch AJ with the stats he's got lately and the double.

You could get royally burned with that move, especially with Sturridge against West Ham and Hazard home against Stoke. I don't know.......just seems a real dicey maneuver. Of course, it's up to you in the end.

Doesn't sound completely sensible to me.
Surely keep Hazard for the next couple of weeks.

          Kosc out seems obvious.
Azpi will release more cash than Ivan if you are tight.

Thanks brother. That's what I thought, but I needed a confirmation. From now on, you can all check out my glorious history. It's not bad, but could be better if I could learn to control some of my taking of hits and stupid risks, etc. Am kind of learning that less risk is better in this game. Thanks again. Much appreciated.

                    "less risk"….

In which case - don't look at my history and count the transfers !!! 😯
Then again - I ENJOY playing FPL 😉

There are far more sage players on here to listen to. They are good lads and always fun to read.
I like throwing out occasional ideas but I'm not always the most astute.
You have been honestly warned 🙂

Yeah. Look at my transfer history for this year. Kind of shocking when I go back and look at it. Less tinkering, and I'd probably have a much better score. I do this every year, though. Like you, I enjoy the game and trying to pull transfers off.

                          Trouble is - it's the old conundrum…..
The better scorers make fewer transfers than you - and you think it's the transfer costs that make a massive difference.

However - they have the right players….you patently don't…so you have to make transfers to sort your team out and try to catch up.

I often find that going too much in on a DGW doesn't reap the rewards that were hoped for. Yet, I still do it. This past DGW, for example, I went a little overboard, and if I had just kept some of the single GW players that I had, I would've been better off. Lesson learned for about the 5th time. Of course, it has come off a time or two. Just something to think about.

know the feeling well...Another way I have considered of getting Aguero is by actually ditching Zaba for a double up of Everton defence for the DGW..much better chance of cleanies but then rubbish fixtures for Everton afterwards and I'm stuck with two defenders.

Looking at my team would the best option be with 2 free transfers:

        A) Rafael > Demchelis, saving 2 for next week
        B) Mata or Gerrard > Silva, saving 2 for next week
        C) Rafael & Gerrard/Mata > Ward & Hazard
