After Sunderland’s win over Cardiff took the Black Cats out of the drop zone, our attentions turn to the summit as the top three sides prepare for action. In what could prove a decisive day in the race for the title, Liverpool welcome Chelsea to Anfield before City make their way to Selhurst Park to face a Palace side looking for a sixth straight win under Tony Pulis:

Our first stop is at Anfield, then, where the likes of Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling will be looking to grab the goals that would bring the Reds one step closer to clinching the title and end Chelsea’s bid for the crown.

Daniel Sturridge is on the bench for the hosts after recovering from a hamstring problem, whilst Jose Mourinho rings the changes for the visitors and makes seven alterations ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final second leg clash with Atletico Madrid.

Full details of the day’s starting lineups can be found via our Twitter feed, while the Dugout Discussion chatroom remains opens for those looking to indulge in some real-time banter.

My brother is bawling crying at that loss. Don't get me wrong it's disappointing of course but are Pool fans forgetting what an incredible season they've had? CL football is guaranteed and the PL is still wide open.

Very true. Many were saying top 4 would be amazing. Should be happy anyway, but I understand how gutted they must feel being so close.

But hey they could still win it, who knows, that's the beauty of football. Not ever yet, many more twists and turns

Exactly, seems too strong a response to me because there's so much still left in it. Of course it is gutting but Chelsea was always the tough nut for them, a bit of perspective is needed.

With the amount of times I get my starting defenders wrong I have to conseed its not bad luck and something is wrong with my thought process when selecting my starting 11. What do you guys do to decide on playing defenders? Looking at the bookies CS odds? Shot data from the last 6 matches? Gut? Strength of fixtures?

Looking for input from both good selectors and bad so I can see whats working and whats not and maybe tweek how I approch the selection process.

if you keep getting it wrong then make the decision process easier and just choose 3 nailed on defenders and 2 bench fodder, no rotating necessary, no thought process. same with keepers just choose 1 and 1 bench fodder and leave it

This was how it was at the start of the season but with team values so high most can afford to have a decent back 5 now.

Recent form and opposition is what I look at as well as tactics of management. Pool, while scoring lots, have looked nervous in the last few and Jose always gets the big games right (or most of the time does) so Azpi was a sure starter for me. Kosc is against a desperate Newcastle side so I expect returns but may be wrong. Was forced to play Ward but I doubt he'll concede as much as my Norwich defender on the bench, Mannone was standard.

Recent form of both teams, how important defending is to the team and tactics.

A balance between how good the team is defensively and how hard their fixture is.
Haven't made too many wrong calls this year; you're bound to miss the odd shock cs from a small team vs one of the big 5/6 but that's not bad management.

Pellegrini keeps saying he only has an hour in him that's why he has only done an hour in the game's he's been back so far. I can only hope he will give him longer now, but he repeated it again after the last game.

But with champ league next year do you think that Liverpool chance of league has gone now
Can't see them buying a decent enough squad to cope

Has FSG said they will not open the purse strings? Won't the CL revenue plus increased merchandising revenues give them that cash?

Fair enough, but as a Red Sox fan I know this group believes in spending money on successful clubs to put them over the top. I think they will spend big.

Could be, and City certainly proved that money plus a league title didn't automatically ensure CL success.

I just have blind faith that the organization has the right plan from the pitch to the sideline to the office as I've seen it work over here brilliantly for the past decade, and I'd assume that CL success was always the plan.

Won't the Red Sox be first at the trough though. Liverpool will get enough to keep up the brand, but the Sox will always be the favored child.

They have kept them pretty separate, I think. We were all pissed during our 2012 meltdown that Stewart Downing was taking their attention away, but what did we know?

so what happens if they win this one and the last three 1-0, and LFC get two 5-0 games

GD the same both on 60 - who wins then?
