The final ScoutCast of the season found Granville and I take on the might of Hall of Fame legend, Evs, top 300 ranked Applebonkers and our very own high flyer – Jonty. We certainly know how to make ourselves feel inadequate.

In a mix of retrospective naval gazing and forward thinking speculation, my co-host and I tackle the usual ScoutCast regulars, before we’re joined by our guests to take on another raft of community questions. We talk Gameweek 38 punts, the deadball divas that are Steven Gerrard and Yaya Toure and consider the lessons learned from the past nine months.

Within touching distance of your ML-leading rival but not sure how to close the gap? Looking for that crucial differential to end your season on a high?

Here's my pick of some midfielders with 1% or less ownership that have the potential to gain you some vital points.

    Willian (7.5m)

A big Chelsea win is predicted by many against a defensively fragile Cardiff side, and Willian looks almost certain to start.
    - 0.6% ownership
    - 2 goals and 1 assist in his last 5 games

    Bolasie (4.9m)

Anyone who has seen Palace play recently will know this guys potential, and with a tasty clash against a relegated Fulham team, he looks set to be in the points.
    - 0.1% ownership
    - 3 assists in his last 5 games

    Giaccherini (6.2m)

With Poyet saying changes will be made for the final GW of the season, the Italian midfielder looks primed for a rare start.
    - 1% ownership
    - 1 goal and 3 assists in his last 102 minutes of playing time 😯

    Arnautovic (5.1m)

Averaging 6.5PPG over his last 8 appearances, the Austrian is in a purple patch of form and has really flown under the radar.
    - 0.7% ownership
    - 2 goals and 2 assists in his last 4 games
    - playing a WBA team with nothing to play for.

I've seen Schurrle mentioned a lot here recently, but I think Willian is the better pick. Schurrle has 5 blanks in a row and often gets substituted early IF he starts (only played the full 90 minutes three times all season). I think he's also competing with Salah for a starting spot.

Schurrle's competing for a WC play atm though isn't he? Could be that extra piece of motivation he needs to tear Cardiff a new one - Thinking back to his hatty against a similarly woeful Fulham defence

I've actually made a mistake in that section. Both Diarra and Maiga are still contracted, it's just that the club will be desperately trying to offload them / cancel the contract.

Aside from them, it is an unusual (and critical) transfer window with an opportunity to free up so much cash on wages.

Just a heads up that I had a few problems submitting the article for consideration. MS Word was telling me it was ~1800 words, but the submission form kept telling me it had 3000+ words. In the end I refreshed the page and removed a couple of links and it accepted it.

Those picking people from teams with nothing to play for, may I just add my two pennies worth?.....

Hull/Arsenal = minefield due to FACup next weekend

Utd/Spurs = do they want Europa or not? Both may not "try" to hard

Everton/Southampton = all safe and positions basically set. Anyone playing in the WC will be wary of injury. All clubs may take a chance to rotate/experiment

West Brom/Villa/Stoke/Palace/Sund/Swansea = the biggest points could come from these? Some fringe WC players and interesting punts, but like Poyet said a few changes could be made and this should be the case with all

City/Liverpool = obviously the only two with anything serious to play for but can't see any massive scores here as it always gets tight on final day

Newcastle/West Ham = due to above, avoid I guess (though I have a feeling Remy will score a couple)

Chelsea = do they care? I'm not so sure? Multiple WC hopefuls who may not want to get injured

Fulham/Cardiff/Norwich= everyone assumes they will be demotivated and get thrashed, BUT, now there is no pressure and all the players will be looking to move to another premier league club/abroad so both could actually perform well. Norwich also play Arsenal who will surely rotate

I rated this weeks matches in order of teams with something to play for earlier.
Those lower down the list more likely to rotate players, I reckon.
Those higher up the list more likely to be up for it playing the A-team.

      1. Man City v West Ham
      2. Liverpool v Newcastle
      3. Cardiff City v Chelsea
      4. Southamptn v Man Utd
      5. Tottenham v Aston Villa
      6. West Brom v Stoke City
      7. Sunderland v Swansea
      8. Hull City v Everton
      9. Norwich v Arsenal
      10. Fulham v Crystal Palace

United appear to have a reason to ease off but this is the last chance for their players to impress the incoming manager. I think the Europa league is worth the risk for RVP, Mata, Valencia and co.

Crystal Palace and Arsenal have the least to play for because their league positions are fixed whatever the results and their opponents are both relegated already.

Playing at home is always enough of a reason to give it 100% but the last home game of the season is special. Also the result had more than a bit to do with Liverpool arrogance that they could chase goal difference against a poor side. Another thing that is likely to goad a team into pulling out something special

well by that reasoning fulham will be giving their all as its their last home game, no? plus they'll want to give their fans something to cheer as its their last PL game for who knows how long

then there's the fact it's a london derby - so playing your last home is special but a derby isn't?

i can think of plenty of reasons why they might give their all

I've made no comment about Fulham only Crystal Palace. Everyone is picking them to do well and I'm disagreeing. Puncheon is 3rd on my bench.

You may be right about Fulham but I couldn't give a monkeys. Don't think I have owned any of their players all season.

If you want to pick a fight try reading what's written first so you have something to argue about.

Good luck this GW, I think you might need it

Morning folks. As you'll probably guess by my username change, I'm not too keen on Mr Dyke's proposals to put B teams into the English football pyramid. It will pretty much signal the death of clubs like my beloved Welling United. If you could sign the petition here it would be very helpful:

Your choice. Personally I don't think we should be allowed the Premier League to destroy the entire football pyramid, the same way it already has done with the League Cup and FA Cup.

Progression for lower league/non-league clubs will be made 10x more difficult. The national team might be the pinnacle, but it's not the be-all and end-all of football in this country.

The Premier League talks itself up as being the best league in the world, that's only due to the great amount of foreign talent we have here. You can't have it both ways. I'd suggest the lack of English talent isn't down to the lack of first-team action, but the lack of top class coaches.

As of Sept 2013, the number of UEFA 'A' coaches in these nations:

        England - 1,161
        Spain - 12,720
        Germany - 5,500

          @ againstleague3

          Totally agree with your arguments.
Not only will it wreck nonleague football but lower league football too.
I think if it goes ahead it will become harder for local football teams to survive.
So I have signed the petition.

No way. I really think it will help younger players come through and am excited about England's future.
Barcelona B is fantastic and gives you a real insight in to the up and coming players, like Delafeu for example.

Barcelona B play in the second tier. This proposal is to put teams in a new fifth tier "League 3".

How is playing at that standard supposed to help them develop anyway?

All these managers coming out in support of the proposal, they're all at big clubs in the Premier League/Championship. They don't give a toss what happens to lower league sides.

isn't the u21 premier league fulfilling that role

or do they create this fifth tier, shift everyone down a division and then those b teams can get promoted/relegated?

I see, that's pretty bad then cos the top teams b teams may end up taking up spots in the championship, and since they wont be able to get promoted, that's just a waste....

however it would be nice for some smaller clubs to play against top talents from epl teams

There will be an extra 20-24 teams blocking the likes of Welling's progress to higher leagues. Will we be able to compete with those clubs in terms of finances/facilities? Not a chance.

Also look at the impact away support has on smaller clubs in leagues like the conference. When Welling played Luton a few weeks ago, Luton brought 2000 away fans - that represents an enormous amount of cash for us in gate receipts, food and drink sales etc.

Let's say Welling are at home to Newcastle's B Team - how many Geordies are going to bother trekking all that way to support their bunch of youngsters?

Garg/Jonty, just spotted an error with the 3 most owned players stat. Not sure if it can be fixed but if 2 players have the same name they will be counted as 1 by the Gargatron. For example it says I've owned Turner for 26 weeks when I haven't owned either Turner since GW22 (I had a Turner every weeek from GW1-22 and there was a 4 week period where I had both).

Oh crap, I thought this might happen and only looked at a few players named Taylor yesterday and they all had their first name etc written on FPL so I never bothered doing anything about it.

I probably won't have time to fix this today but I'll have a look.

        Sorry!

      Hi everybody.

Sorry to inform you that there is a bug where players named Turner are counted as one. For all (I think) other players with the same surname they also wrote out the first name so it won't be a problem in those cases.

      Sorry 😳

Agree 100% with Claret14. Then monitor your rival and if he takes a hit then you could get Sterling, but would hold onto 4pt lead if you can.

Anyone got an educated guess at the Chelsea midfield for Sunday?

    Will probs be something like;

    Matic - Luiz
    Schurrle - Willian - Hazard/Salah?

Looks about right, pretty sure Hazard will start. Salah/Schurrle probably competing for one spot.

Any suggestions for a punt in defence up to 5.9m? Alonso, Olsson, Azpi and Kolarov are my current defenders.

Kosc seems the obvious choice for me.

That's what I was thinking but a bit worried about a weakened Arsenal team. Thinking between Kosc, GJ and Brown at the moment. 0.1 short of Skrtel which is annoying given his goal threat.

Of the ones you named I could only get excited about Skrtel--couldn't bear to watch GJ's bumbling if I had him in my team.

GJ was fairly high on one of Doosra's tables but the thought of getting him is a bit vomit inducing.

Posted this on the last article and got two helpful replies (thanks) but hoping for one or two more:

This is the team now with one FT and 2.3 in the bank:

    Mannone
    Evra, Ward, Coleman
    Mata, Erikson, Yaya, Nasri
    Wickham, Aguero, Suarez

    Boruc, Amalfitano, Terry, Olsson

    A. Amalf --> Sterling (bench Wickham)
    B. Wickham --> Carroll (bench Amalf)
    C. Wickham and Mata --> Sturridge and Sterling (-4) (bench Amalf)

Out of curiosity..What exactly happened to Vertonghen this season?..currently listed as injured and with a return date of this Sunday..is that realistic and will he actually make the WC?...also, why all the transfer rumours surrounding him..

Been injured for the majority of the season and I think has a minor injury now so he should back in time for the world cup

Just remembering that he occasionally plays OOP for the Belgium NT in midfield, could be a handy pickup for fantasy WC

He's a great player on his day. He seems to have fallen totally off the radar though, he would be a huge loss to Belgium.
