And weโ€™re underway. All our deadlines have passed and the season is here. It all starts at Old Trafford.

Normally the home of trophies and glory, this season United will host teams bereft of silverware but still buoyant, thanks to the Louis van Gaal revolution.

There’s room for optimism. A goal-strewn pre-season accompanied by all the right noises from the manager carries United into an opening day clash with Swansea who are asked to take up the role of sitting ducks. However, the visitors will have other ideas. With the bulk and pace of Wilfried Bony and Bafรฉtimbi Gomis at their disposal, Garry Monkโ€™s side have the weapons to disrupt a make-shift United back-line. Itโ€™s going to be interesting.

There should be goals. There should be points. Our expectations are raised by the fact that the world and his wife have the armband on Mr Rooney. The familiar tide of joy and frustration is just minutes away.

        Nice. Siggy's on my bench, and he won't come on, but delighted that his value will rise. Is it still limited to 0.3 per week? Perhaps doesn't matter; I might keep him for the long haul.

          Listen, I'm not here to condemn MUFC rather, to point out that BTSport loses credibility as a sporting news outlet when their coverage is so lopsided.

          If I wanted an only MUFC / Swansea view point I'll tune in elsewhere.
