What are the chances of MU playing 4-2-2-2?

    DDG
    Rafael - Jones - Evans - Shaw
    Ander - Vidal
    Di Maria - Mata
    Rooney - RVP

A bit like City last year? I think they played this formation few times?

It's too narrow. van Gaal signed Di Maria saying he needed wide players, he wouldn't buy him and then not play him out wide.

Teaching a new system takes a lot of time. He won't throw away all the work.

Also, Rojo needs to be in there 😉

I agree with what you said on the last page. Just because they're playing a 3-5-2, doesn't mean Di Maria will be a wing back, like you said. He can easily be played as a winger.

Dzeko prob won't get 90 min. Ade should get close to 90min.

If Liverpool are without anyone of Moreno,Skrtel, GJ i might be very tempted to do the swap.

Besides, Spurs have sun,WBA, SOUTH coming up while Citeh have ars/CHEL

I am worried that the straight swap won't be possible by the weekend as Ade may rise (and Dzeko may drop?)

Liverpool don't look that great at the back so Adebayor can do something there. Stoke historically make it difficult for City. City have Arsenal and Chelsea to follow the international break Spurs have Sunderland and West Brom.... Oh and as far as the injury goes it doesn't matter casuals will panic sell Dzeko as soon as they see that yellow flag to either Jovetic or Adebayor this week pushing his value down and the other two up.

    Dzeko > Ade

    Now or after this weekend?

I am worried that the straight swap won't be possible by the weekend as Ade may rise (and Dzeko may drop?)

Although, if I save I would have 2 transfers so could do Cesc (or Haz / Ramsey) > Sterling to make up the funds.

No. I was hoping that Dzeko would be ok until Negredo returns but with the form of Jovetic even that looks dodgy. Whereas Ade seems nailed on (Soldado covering the Europa), in form and probably on pens.

        2. Tommy Template
          • 11 Years
          11 years, 3 months ago

Go to Jovetic for one week seems as likely as Dzeko to do anything and by the weekend the two might be about the same price depending on rises/falls. If you did it today it's already giving you 0.6 in value (Jovetic is 7.9 at moment) which would help with Adebayor move after the weekend hopefully

    2. Timtastic03
      • 11 Years
      11 years, 3 months ago

I think you can wait if you have Cesc and Haz (you can downgrade either to Sterling and still have Chelsea cover)

Its easy to get a bit excited about rank but early on its an even worse fallacy. A few points can cause a serious drop or rise in ranking. Personally I think rank is meaningless till at least GW5.

To those of you who think Di Maria will play as a wing back, earlier in pre-season LVG said he can't play 4-3-3 because he doesn't have wingers of the highest quality like Ronaldo or Di Maria. He mentioned Di Maria specifically and now he has him people are thinking he will play him a wingback? What a waste that would be. Di Maria will play as a winger or in the hole. Remember at Az, Bayern and Barca LVG played a 4-3-3. He only played 3-5-3 at the WC with Holland due to the limitations of that squad.

The first two games were not good for United and clearly the midfield and defence are having a lot of trouble adjusting, particularly in the early phase of build up play where too often one of the CBs just ends up booting it. Most of the players seem so uncomfortable playing in it and I think LVG see's Di Maria as the player to allow him to play his favourite formation and allow the players to fill roles they're more familiar with.

May be right, although Rojo gives us more balance, as a genuine left sided defender.

I've already said - I expect di Maria to take up the Robben role (free role off the front)
But I also think a formation switch is the next most likely scenario.

Oh for sure, we haven't spent £60M on him to waste him at WB. His attacking attributes are far better utilised in the final third.

      It's ridiculous innit.

On a side note he said it's tough signing players like Vidal and Messi yesterday.

Vidal signing imminent then. Watch this space.

When Conte resigned I really thought that was the Vidal deal done. Alas, now I have completely given up hope and would settle for any player who is in anyway a competent central midfield player.

Hate Moyes for ignoring Strootman and McCarthy while chasing shadows in the dark. What an absolute muppet of a man.

Moyes was a scapegoat. The only thing I would really hang on him is the Rooney contract.

I don't think he likes Rooney wide, but I guess it could be this:
      http://lineupbuilder.com/?sk=47by1

Doubt he'd rotate Rooney & RVP...

Yes he said he prefers Rooney as a 9 or a 10, but that Rooney told him he can play on the wing if he wants him to. I'm interested to see how he handles the Rooney jigsaw piece, but LVG will just do what he thinks is best, He won't have qualms about dropping RVP, Rooney, Mata or whoever.

He's a winger, who's best season (last season) for Real came when he played in the midfield three behind Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale.

If Man Utd play 4-3-3, one of Rooney and Van Persie has to be dropped, unless Van Gaal plays Rooney on the left, or decides to rip up the copy book again and switch to 4-4-2.

Di Maria played as a central midfielder during his best season at RM. Not a passing, controlling one but a ball winning, dribbling and starting quick counter attacks. As a winger he has always blown hot and cold.
