Every little point counts. With the mini-league gap between myself and co-host Granville widening by the week, my Mancunian friend can ill-afford to throw points aside in his bid to follow up last season’s victorious campaign.

In and around the usual ScoutCast regulars, Granville recalls the dilemma that saw him get away with benching Cesc Fabregas to the tune of just a single point. Will that prove costly?

We then join forces to run the rule over the accelerating Di Maria bandwagon, assess Rooney’s re-positioning and decide whether those steering away from Ramsey Street need to re-programme their sat navs.

          it would be an idiotic move if you didn't have costa. But given you have him anyway, you'll still going to get his points and you're captaining a player far fewer people have. The gamble isn't whether costa goes bigs, it's whether your captain does, which is the same every week basically.

          Look at it this way, my main rivals in my mini league have costa/rooney/naysmith up front. I have costa/rooney/welbeck. What i'm really betting, is will wellbeck outscore naysmith, and I'm prepared to bet that to the tune of my captain. Let's say that costa, rooney and welbeck all score 10 points and naysmith scores 5.

          That means they would have scored 20 (costa) plus 10 (rooney) plus 5 (naysmith)
          I on the other hand would score 10 (costa) plus 10 (rooney) plus 20 (welbeck)

          So 5 points more overall.

          It's crude maths, and only really works when looking at the strikers rather than whole squad, but it might make you feel a bit better...

            Yes, that seems to be the pull, in that its a bold move that could really pay off, plus I still will bring in the points from costa and ADM. Just spoiled for choice with Pelle aswell, even Ulloa looks like an option at Palace! Come on 4-4!!

    Consecutive league games in the past 2 seasons. Evans (7), Jones (11) and Smalling (12). You just can't build a defence around injury prone players. With Blackett also suspended, it's anyone guess who plays CB.

    Just re. the discussion about playing differently this year above

    In seasons gone by I've played the patient game. Never took hits, used my WC at the end of the season for a DGW, the \waiting-game' basically. This season I've played very aggressively. One hit and one double hit so far, gambled on captaincy most weeks, jumped on a lot of the major bandwagons.. and it's working really well.

    Are you playing differently at all this year?

    I'm considering transferring Rooney out to accommodate Pelle.

    I could also put in Tadic for Zaha who's currently my 5th midfield bench fodder.

    Is taking Rooney out for Pelle utter madness?

    I'm a QPR fan and see this Saturday's match as a perfect storm of omens for the Saints, it could be 5 or 6.

        I want to, it would mean having Clyne, Tasic and Pelle, the spine of the form team.

        Alternatively, I could downgrade Lovren to Bertrand, meaning I double up on Koeman's defence and add Schneiderlin in place of Zaha and flood my team with Saints whilst keeping Wayne.

            I actually just love that we have him, he's my favourite striker in world football. Just need to see evidence that's he can get back to his lethal best.

            Growing up my favourite striker was Batistuta. Sadly I never got to see him in a United shirt, at least I've got that with Falcao

              Similar to RVN for me, but RVN came when in his prime. Pure poacher, although admit that he is also capable of scoring better goals than RVN, e.g. outside the box.

      We have been poor defensively this season. Poyet is changing things on sat with jones RB Pva LB and o'shea & vergini CBs. Don't know if that will help or hinder.

    Costa captain is a no brainer but some players will outscore him. Do you play safe and follow the masses or take a punt? Nobody ever won a fortune betting on Chelsea at home but then maybe you are happy to settle for breaking even or limiting losses? These are the weeks you can gain a huge advantage. True, it's more likely you will lose ground but then maybe you are are happy to do ok rather than gamble good v bad?

      Honestly?

      In my opinion if a player is happy enough to take this risk this week then what kind of captain choices lie ahead in future weeks also? If you play the percentages surely you come out on top more than making the consistently risky play. Not saying you will make the consistently risky play but the potential is there if you'd go against Costa this week in my opinion.

        Ramsey is pretty fixture proof in my mind. He can score in the easy games but is almost just as likely in the hard games. Hasn't picked up points in the last few but he has looked no less a threat and he consistently do well. Only reason not to have him is if you already have welbeck.

            I think it does, because they are both captainable. You need to spread out your captains. Not saying you shouldn't have both but if you have no other arsenal cover going forward then you don't want to transfer out Ramsey
