With West Brom and Man United set to see out the Gameweek tomorrow, we delve into the data from the nine matches played so far. Unsurprisingly, Man City, Southampton and West Ham’s in-form front men are on this evening’s agenda, whilst we also cast an eye over a couple of improving north London-based midfielders.

        I only seen the first half and I was delighted to have zero Liverpool representation. Sterling is the only real option for them at the moment and if I had, I don't think I would be shifting anytime soon. Still scoring decent without dazzling is a good sign

      Repost from bottom of last page.

      Why not a love fest for Coleman? The guy is a fantasy point magnet.

      He's only played 4 games + a cameo 6 minute appearance to start the season. He had an unlucky own goal in the game Everton gave up 6 to the mighty Chelsea, but overall his stats are awesome.

      Week 2 - 1G for 7 pts.
      Week 3 - (the chelsea game) 1A
      Week 4 - CS 6 pts.
      Week 8 - 1G, CS 13 pts.

      So in summary.... 4 games, 2 goals, 1 assist and 2 clean sheets.

      I think he could be a slight differential from all the Baines owners as he will score more goals even though he's not on PK's, all the while picking up the CS's that Baines is getting as well.

        Baines is the safer option and will outscore him more in the long run

              Should say that would mean Baines Coleman double, and Clyne will be going coz not enough Saint spots, and i want to start planning ahead coz atm i have double Saints defense and it wont be good in 4 weeks

            The pricing of the two this year makes it automatic Baines. Unless you insist on having an inferior differential to win you some H2H matches.

              So you think Coleman is inferior to Baines or is inferior to other Defenders as well? I guess you could make the case that anyone compared to Baines is technically "inferior". But if everyone has Baines, which is the way it's going now, why wouldn't you want the next best thing owned by half as many teams? Look at Costa before his injury. Owners were afraid to not Captain him because so many teams had him that they wouldn't be able to keep up. Owning Baines is the Defense equivalent to Costa IMO. He's essential.....but not essential at the same time because of the Aguero's and Coleman's out there.

            Well in all fairness..lets be honest...we all know how shitty Everton defense has been so far...Its just that this week they've outplayed villa & now i hear people thinking about doubling up on their defense.. Bit of a Knee-jerking imo

              they had one of the hardest set of opening fixtures

              and that tough schedule included Crystal Palace who Everton play poorly every time, as well as Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool away & ManU away

              same defense as last season which did quite well

              I don't understand why people look only at form without considering the strength of the fixtures, and how teams typically play against the opponents they play

            Both Coleman 7 Baines are equally options, but Baines has penos to match colemans goal, and assists aswell.

            Also, Baines will be less suspectible to a low patch in form (penos).

            I think it'll be close at the end of the season, but Baines just makes more sense for the same price

            I completely agree. Coleman has played half the minutes of Baines this season. If he double his goals/assists he would have 4 goals and 2 assists compared with Baines' 1 goal and 5 assists.

            Everton clearly have amazing fixtures so signing one of Coleman or Baines would be a good idea as long as it is doable without wrecking your team. Yes Jagielka has done well too but it is unlikely he will score throughout the season, based on previous years.

            The choice is very close I think, Baines does very well in the BPS which is a big plus for him. Coleman was explosive last year and looks to be repeating that form. For those looking right now Coleman is also 0.2 mill cheaper and has a lower ownership (relevant for both current budget and potential for future rises)

            I would love it if someone wrote an article on this. One thing I think which is people saying go for Baines because he has pens should realise pens and a very rare set piece are Baines' only chance of scoring so its very unlikely he will match Coleman for goals.

              think you should also see Innsie's community article on bonus hounds: http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2014/10/15/baseline-bonus-in-attack-and-defence/

              basically, Jagielka does well for getting bonus when the team gets a clean sheet and the other defenders don't get attacking points

                and should add... barring injury, my starting defense the next four weeks is
                Clyne Bertrand Coleman Baines

                  your defense is amazing. I have Clyne plus 2 southampton players (not def), ivanovic (don't want to use a transfer on him yet) and 3 x 4.0 def (will upgrade one to Baines or Coleman). I think Coleman and Baines will destroy Jagielka for total points.

              Serious sample size issues here...

              the same logic of doubling colemans returns says that Sakho will finish the season with 30 goals (he's good, but I doubt it!).

                Right because Baines' 8 games is a huge sample. Last season Coleman outscored Baines

            I'm seriously debating between which of the two to get in this GW.
            I think there's a slight mental block against Coleman, because I got him for 5m last year.
            Baines is getting more touches going forward, Coleman is more of a threat in the box.
            Coleman should be fresher this week - there'll probably not be much in it points wise over the season.
            Baines is probably the safer option.

              Eriksen? Not sure. To be honest I dunno where I'm going this week at all. I have a shite gk and defence but have been putting the transfers off might just start working at them. I've probably the best attacking 7 and an uber back line.

                  I've the ADM Sterling Siggy Fabregas midfield with no cash itb at the minute I don't want to trade out any of these guys. I'd like Baines I could use a stronger defence but can't see me ditching any of these boys. Maybe a few shrewd defensive signing could keep the uber going a while yet.

          repost: bottom of last page:

          Lots of people asking about Costa. I have done some research.
          Marca reported Costa as being "rested"in their match report. Have also read this a few times from sources on twitter.
          Jose has not said Costa is injured, Chelsea have not reported him as injured.
          "Costa isn't injured. He can play. Jose wants to rest him for two weeks to prevent a future injury. Found this and Maribor games ideal."
          This is a quote from a Chelsea fan on twitter who is followed by some journos that may give it some weight. (Ben Dinnery has also said the same thing but I am sure this guy just does research on twitter and google like I have done)

          I know it is nothing concrete but thought I would share anyway so please don't shoot me down in flames for not having proper official sources other than the Marca comment. I believe he will play against Utd

            Doing the hokey cokey between the biggest hitting strikers will end in tears eventually.

            The ones that are happy to do it I imagine missed Aguero's haul but this was negated by Baines Pelle and Tadic this week.

            Both are major armband options every week the first haul Costa has the ditchers will be punished.

          There once was a poster called Innsie
          Most others said taking Fabs out looked flimsy
          But lo and behold Baines produced the goods
          He thought Chadli would produce goals and assists in floods
          But at least he avoided Azpi's wincie.

            We really have to have this out about Costa.

            He's just this guy, right? He has scored a lot but there is no way he is the fulcrum that moves the world. (A) Never having had Costa is OK: lots of players have scored goals consistently, like Sakho, Pelle, and now Aguero. (B) Dropping him is not madness. He costs a lot of money and if you expect him not to play it is not foolish to drop him for someone who will play (and score). Everyone wants to talk about ho hard it will be to get him back in, but if you bought him late, he is not likely to cost more next week than what you sold him for the week before. So this whole "OMG you dropped Costa/don't have him, what are you going to do" thing is about people who had him from the beginning and believe their entire success is bound to Costa. Get over it. He is just this guy.

            *I did not have him until after his hat-trick and have been playing catch-up ever since 😳

              agreed. but he scores lots of goals and his team look like they'll win the league, scoring a fair amount of goals in the process.
              so essential - no.
              useful if you like points - yes.

                I must admit it was you who inspired this rant. Frankly I agree with you, and I am already working out how I get him back for QPR, but I just can't get behind the whole idea that to drop him is some kind of fever symptom.

                  i'm all for bold decisions and all that, but unless you know he's injured, i think it's too big a risk to sell, especially as the honeybadger says - he's very high ownership, and you may be left behind.

              The thing with Costa is his enormous ownage percentage, if you don't have him and he scores well you'll prob be dropping a lot...

                This is what gives him such power over people's minds, but if you drop him briefly (or don't have him) in order to play someone else who scores just as well, then you're fine. It's the same argument with all "essential" players: there is a risk, but it is not madness to think someone else might get you as many points. Costa, at least before this week, was the safest bet. But there were always others, and this week the bet just got less risky.

                  I think the key point is he's very droppable, BUT only, if as you say, you've only gotten him in late as you did, GW6.

                  If, like me, you've had him since GW1, then to drop him (short term), and then go to get him back in again, i will lose 0.4m.

                  I would rather bench him and call in a sub, than spend 0.4m, particularly this season when building team value is so bloody hard.

                  for what its worth, unless he picks up a long term injury, then imo, he is a season long keeper. The undisputed first choice striker in the team that is going to win the league.

              At 6.4 and with good fixtures I think your good to give him a chance and see if it pans out. His numbers are really good for his price.

              I've had him a while now and I've come to the conclusion:

              When Spurs are playing well he's scoring well. When Spurs are woeful, his returns are woeful 🙁

              Spurs are just so inconsistent this season and seem to favour a defensive game under Pochettino 😕

              Starting to get cold feet but there are some good fixtures coming up

                Baines is on fire. Always nice to own him. Drop Costa. He's such a pain to own. Don't drop Costa if you don't have Aguero though...

                      "Don't have to be such a cu-nt."

                      Mate, you give advice like that & you expect us to accept it at face value?
                      Think before you try & *help*. You just told the guy to sell Costa? :S

                      Further, listening to managers pressers & accepting what they say at face value could be one of the worst things you can do...
                      Think about it, why would they reveal anything they didn't have to, to their opposition?

                      This isn't to say we completely discount everything we hear but, if you checked the Team News on this site (or many others) you would *know* pretty much what to do with Costa this year.

                        You're ridiculously pretentious. You're assuming your advice is better. Also, regarding Costa, even with the team news people still aren't certain whether or not he'll start. Getting rid of him for Aguero isn't that bad of a move. Aguero has really good fixtures ahead of him. I'd rather have Fabregas, Baines and Aguero over Baines, Costa and another midfielder.

                          @AA7

                          First, the question was:
                          "Worth dropping either fab or costa to get baines in?"

                          You then replied: "Drop Costa. He's such a pain to own."

                          There was nothing said about Aguero, or then we may have had something to talk about.

                          As for being pretentious, sure I'll agree & I've been called much worse however, looking back do you think it was best to suggest that he sell Costa?

                          Finally, "team news people still aren't certain whether or not he'll start". Sure, we all know that but, to put more emphasis on the manager's statement's at the cost of heeding the news gathered here seems short sighted, right?

                          1. Lallana_

                            "Don't drop Costa if you don't have Aguero though..."

                            He has Aguero, thus dropping Costa is more effective in my opinion than dropping Fabregas.

                            I'd rather have Welbeck and Baines over Costa and 4.0M defender. Costa has given me a headache and Welbeck is more than capable in the next 3 games or so to outscore him.

                              Sure, that's fine.
                              I'm picking up what you're putting down, now.
                              Although, you didn't say that originally, you said b/c he's a "pain to own". So, you could understand why I was skeptical?

                              In the end, I think we can agree that the best thing to do with Costa is just wait & see a little bit right?
                              Selling him before we *know* what's actually going on seems a bit hasty.

                                I can see why you think keeping Costa is a really good idea. I'm having a hard time myself deciding whether or not I want to do Costa>Aguero using my FT. Being burned by Costa in the past tempts me to do this even more hence my comment "pain to own"

                                and yeah I usually wait until Friday night to do my transfers.

                                I was just offended by what you said:

                For getting in Baines or Aguero most probably.. Of the template midfield I guess he's showing the least.

                4th top scoring mid, just two points behind Fabregas and looking good. I don't get it myself.

              Quick look at points at rank

              1K = 493
              3K = 481
              5K = 474
              10K = 465
              20K = 455
              30K = 448
              40K = 444
              50k = 440

              Hopefully some sort of guide.

                      Its key IMO. Brought Lampard in as a short term punt vs Villa when he was two short of breaking Bobby Ramblings record. He had scored more goals vs Villa than any other club. He scored 2. Players have teams and grounds the like to play against and on.

                  That sounds plausible. The Telegraph did mention the three week rest was to manage the problem, not necessarily to heal it.

                IMPORTANT QUESTION I am sure most are thinking.

                Spend the big bucks on Baines (possibly even if it means taking a hit to make it happen) or just cheap out with Jagielka...

                (would be taking out Moreno)

                  Baines every time for me. Jagielka's goal run will dry up - not so certain on Baines' supply of assists and bonus.

                    I am pro Baines too, but what about Ivanovic? Is he too worth his money? I have both and haven't got Ivanovic for his big hauls beginning of hte season. No attacking pts for me. Is he worth keeping? Not so sure atm

                Anyone think people underestimate the importance of fixtures? Or at least that in hindsight, when assessing a team's quality, it is forgotten how good/ bad their recent fixtures were? I'll use my team Southampton as an example:

                I remember last season, similarly to this, Southampton had their fixtures in big chunks of very easy fixtures and then smaller chunks of very hard. That was just how it went.... Most of their wins came in the good fixtures, pushing them up to top 4, and most losses in the hard ones, pushing them back down to midtable. So far it is exactly the same

                Guaranteed, when saints lose 3 out of 4 against the big teams and go 6th or 7th, the media and fans will start saying how they have lost form, their quality has dropped off, they have been found out, etc. it happened last year too but in actuality there was nothing special at all.. They just won the easy games and lost the hard ones throughout but they happened to come in chunks.

                The major exception to this is probably leicester who played great in the 'hard' games and badly in others!

                    Indeed, you sure don't underestimate fixtures... You possibly overestimate them though 😉

                    But do you apply the logic of your ticker in hindsight? Everyone talks about how bad villa are defensively now after playing the top 5 in 5 games. I'm sure most would avoid them for that reason

                    In reality we are none the wiser after their impressive first few

                  Your point about Southampton is very valid and actually makes me laugh a little when some of my friends also football fans think they could push for a european place this season. Fact is you can only beat whats put out in front of you and by and large Southampton have done that so far bar the 0-0 with West Brom so fair play. If you take a Swansea as a comparison point similar scenario haven't played many of the big boys bar Chelsea and yet don't have the same returns as Southampton, just goes to show you still have to give huge credit to them for being very consistent.

                    Yeah other examples who have had extreme fixture swings are everton and villa. Both largely gone with fix. Exceptions are there of course!

                      Yeah I think southampton are in a state of limbo where they are relaxed against the lower teams because they don't see relegation as a big threat and go for it.

                      Against top teams they may be more nervous as they feel it is the next hurdle

                Can't believe i'm asking this - but is Steven Taylor nailed for Newcastle...?

                                  did he watch Kaboul play against Aguero last w/e?
                                  as an Aguero-non owner, I want to kick his face, played like an amateur footballer, gave Aguero stupid penalty and so much space.

                          Boyd has been about as good going forward as Tiote this season. Got a lucky goal (Adrian was fouled) with his only shot on target for the season #yaya'd

                            solid 2p at least, hoped for cheaky assist. Duff would get 2p max, if he could avoid YC. I never think they could keep CS againts inform WHU

                    Let this week serve as a lesson to those who kneejerk & WC early, because they fall 30 or 40 points behind in their mini-league.

                    Seen rises & falls to player's Overall Rank in excess of 90k this week.

                        Don't know if the GW3 WC players who got Jovetic & Ramsey feel the same way as you though.
                        Glad it worked out for yeah but, my point remains...
                        30 or 40pts early on, ain't nothing.

                      I was 40 behind my ML rival. 98 points so far with cork still on the bench to most likely come on, he scored 30, huge swing...

                        Didn't say it can't work out but, feeling pressured into it because you're 30 or 40 behind is silly too... as we can see it's not as much as it seems.

                          Fair enough. WC should only be used early if there are fires that need putting out and/or you feel you can improve your team significantly both short and long term.

                      I agree. Was tempted to last week but decided I wouldn't make enough changes. Aguero (c) and Tadic have lauched me from 600000+ to 70k, although I'll be watching Di Maria from behind the sofa!

                      Glad and Sad...

                      Glad I captained Aguero this past week, although I had the armband on Costa and him as Vice, then changed to Aguero last minute. (can you imagine a Costa cameo for 1 point with Aguero as VC!!!!)
                      Sad he missed a penalty.

                      Glad Boyd is sitting in the first spot on the bench to come on for Costa - another 8 points. I changed him from last spot to first when I changed (C) to Aguero
                      Sad I never switched Ivan to Baines.

                      Glad I now hold 1st spot in my money league and have broken 100K with Di Maria still to play.
                      Sad that I cannot fit Ivan and Baines into my squad.

                      Lady luck has surely smiled on me this week... and it is becoming more and more apparent that FPL needs plenty of it.

                        Glad Aguero (c) 4 goals
                        Sad missed penalty = -12 points

                        Glad had Baines
                        Sad transferred out Fabregas to Ox because of it

                        Glad double Soton defense
                        Sad that I considered ditching Clyne to accommodate Tadic instead of Ox.

                        Glad Costa missed the game and got Boyd off the bench
                        Sad Many Costa (c) Kun (vc)

                        Glad went from 600k to 70k in 1 week - overtaking a 80pt advantage in cash league.
                        Sad it's not gonna happen every week
