The Big Numbers – Gameweek 8

With West Brom and Man United set to see out the Gameweek tomorrow, we delve into the data from the nine matches played so far. Unsurprisingly, Man City, Southampton and West Ham’s in-form front men are on this evening’s agenda, whilst we also cast an eye over a couple of improving north London-based midfielders.

You could have saved some time and just asked baines and Tadic or jags and sterling! Baines and Tadic for me.

Team is pretty standard so depends if you want to take some punts.

Who would you get rid of first?

    A. Chester - poor fixtures, poor defence, rotation risk, chance of the odd goal

    B. PVA - poor fixtures, even poorer defence, chance of the odd assist

    Thanks

Should I sell Balotelli this week? I've kept faith in him this long, so I might as well keep him for Hull at home right?

IMPORTANT QUESTION I am sure most are thinking.

Spend the big bucks on Baines (possibly even if it means taking a hit to make it happen) or just cheap out with Jagielka...

    (would be taking out Moreno)

            Foster - Mannone
            Clyne - Chambers - Naylor - Hutton - Moore
            ADM - Fab - Sterling - Siggy - Boyd
            Costa - Aguero - Pelle

            2 FTs, nothing itb

Was thinking of doing Naylor -> Jagielka and Sterling -> Eriksen

Already have Pelle so I don't think getting in Tadic as well is wise.

I love your approach to the game, it sounds fun battling your son. I have been looking at the stats for the last 2 weeks and am loving the look of Eriksen.

ADM is playing a much higher position than he's being given credit for. Furthest forward two weeks ago and splitting RVP and Falcao last week....Rooney ADM Falcao RVP is being underestimated imo...plenty of pts for ADM no matter who they play.

I honestly wouldn't lose any of those if you want a good OR...I assume you have Siggy as well, so maybe Siggy > Eriksen but they do more or less the same job (kicks/corners creativity)...

Same thing though...Siggy is perhaps coming to the end of his run...Tadic Eriksen and Siggy all fall into that mid priced playmaker role...

Repost from bottom of last page.

Why not a love fest for Coleman? The guy is a fantasy point magnet.

He's only played 4 games + a cameo 6 minute appearance to start the season. He had an unlucky own goal in the game Everton gave up 6 to the mighty Chelsea, but overall his stats are awesome.

            Week 2 - 1G for 7 pts.
            Week 3 - (the chelsea game) 1A
            Week 4 - CS 6 pts.
            Week 8 - 1G, CS 13 pts.

So in summary.... 4 games, 2 goals, 1 assist and 2 clean sheets.

I think he could be a slight differential from all the Baines owners as he will score more goals even though he's not on PK's, all the while picking up the CS's that Baines is getting as well.

Baines is the safer option and will outscore him more in the long run

This has crossed my mind, if Costa is out, im considering Clyne Costa> Coleman Pelle

Should say that would mean Baines Coleman double, and Clyne will be going coz not enough Saint spots, and i want to start planning ahead coz atm i have double Saints defense and it wont be good in 4 weeks

The pricing of the two this year makes it automatic Baines. Unless you insist on having an inferior differential to win you some H2H matches.

So you think Coleman is inferior to Baines or is inferior to other Defenders as well? I guess you could make the case that anyone compared to Baines is technically "inferior". But if everyone has Baines, which is the way it's going now, why wouldn't you want the next best thing owned by half as many teams? Look at Costa before his injury. Owners were afraid to not Captain him because so many teams had him that they wouldn't be able to keep up. Owning Baines is the Defense equivalent to Costa IMO. He's essential.....but not essential at the same time because of the Aguero's and Coleman's out there.

Well in all fairness..lets be honest...we all know how shitty Everton defense has been so far...Its just that this week they've outplayed villa & now i hear people thinking about doubling up on their defense.. Bit of a Knee-jerking imo

they had one of the hardest set of opening fixtures

and that tough schedule included Crystal Palace who Everton play poorly every time, as well as Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool away & ManU away

same defense as last season which did quite well

I don't understand why people look only at form without considering the strength of the fixtures, and how teams typically play against the opponents they play

Both Coleman 7 Baines are equally options, but Baines has penos to match colemans goal, and assists aswell.

Also, Baines will be less suspectible to a low patch in form (penos).

I think it'll be close at the end of the season, but Baines just makes more sense for the same price

I completely agree. Coleman has played half the minutes of Baines this season. If he double his goals/assists he would have 4 goals and 2 assists compared with Baines' 1 goal and 5 assists.

Everton clearly have amazing fixtures so signing one of Coleman or Baines would be a good idea as long as it is doable without wrecking your team. Yes Jagielka has done well too but it is unlikely he will score throughout the season, based on previous years.

The choice is very close I think, Baines does very well in the BPS which is a big plus for him. Coleman was explosive last year and looks to be repeating that form. For those looking right now Coleman is also 0.2 mill cheaper and has a lower ownership (relevant for both current budget and potential for future rises)

I would love it if someone wrote an article on this. One thing I think which is people saying go for Baines because he has pens should realise pens and a very rare set piece are Baines' only chance of scoring so its very unlikely he will match Coleman for goals.

think you should also see Innsie's community article on bonus hounds: http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2014/10/15/baseline-bonus-in-attack-and-defence/

basically, Jagielka does well for getting bonus when the team gets a clean sheet and the other defenders don't get attacking points

and should add... barring injury, my starting defense the next four weeks is
                      Clyne Bertrand Coleman Baines

your defense is amazing. I have Clyne plus 2 southampton players (not def), ivanovic (don't want to use a transfer on him yet) and 3 x 4.0 def (will upgrade one to Baines or Coleman). I think Coleman and Baines will destroy Jagielka for total points.

                    Serious sample size issues here...

the same logic of doubling colemans returns says that Sakho will finish the season with 30 goals (he's good, but I doubt it!).

I'm seriously debating between which of the two to get in this GW.
I think there's a slight mental block against Coleman, because I got him for 5m last year.
Baines is getting more touches going forward, Coleman is more of a threat in the box.
Coleman should be fresher this week - there'll probably not be much in it points wise over the season.
Baines is probably the safer option.

How many goals has Tadic scored this season?

Answer this question, and you'll stop rushing to get him in.

Sure he's good - but he's not as good as people are making out (i.e virtually essential)

Have exactly 4.3 to downgrade Zaha to Albrighton.

Would mean I can bring in Baines.

He wasn't good for me when I had him, he de-valued my team by 0.2m, but if it's to get in Baines it's probably worth it.

His game time has been limited so far.

A shame you don't have 0.1 more for Obertan or Boyd as they will both play regularly and like this week both delivered a few points and IMO a playing bench is essential.

Are we likely to get any news about Costa? Jeez even as I typed that I already knew the answer, this is Jose we're talking about 😆

I decided to keep him the only decent defences he has to play against until gw 20 is west brom and Southampton and arguably Sunderland (sho should tighten up again)

Opinion on this team guys? Right to captain Kun? Baines & Tadic for Terry & Sterling done yesterday to catch the rises:

                Forster (4.0)

Baines - Kompany - Bertrand (Wisdom / Duff)

Downing - Tadic - ADM - Siggy (King)

                Costa - Kun - Welbeck
