There was just a wafer-thin point separating myself and Granville in Gameweek 11, despite my rivals decision to ignore the force of nature that is Alexis Sanchez.

In a svelte but packed episode of the ScoutCast, my co-host and I discuss the Chilean’s “essential†charms and pile praise on the reborn Stewart Downing and the new, reliable Leighton Baines v2.

Around the usual regulars, we drop in on some old favourites, as Aleks Kolarov discovers new methods of running Granville’s Gameweek and I somehow manufacture a way of snuggling under the Van Persie duvet. We also carry on nudging the Harry Kane-wagon, run our teams through the Gargatron computer and go on “Warnock Watch†once more.

Squeeze into this episode out via this link or sample its tautness via the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Granville, you only lost 6 pts by captaining Hazard over Sanchez!!

I thought he had both Hazard and Sanchez and chose to captain Hazard over Sanchez?

        Hazard 10 x 2 + Sanchez 16 = 36
        Hazard 10 + Sanchez 16 x 2 = 42

If Granville doesn't have Sanchez at all then apologies! (And ouch!)

No it's 12 points. I had a clear choice between Hazard and Sanchez and I was always captaining one of them.

Yeah, Bubz (and further into the Scoutcast) put me straight.

I captained Hazard over Sanchez last week too. His penalty duties and not knowing Wenger was going to switch to a 442 with Sanchez through the middle, tipped it in his favour for me.

I'm even more convinced now Fabregas is going to win out over Hazard.

Hazard looks to be lacking confidence in front of goal. He seems more willing to try and force a penalty than tuck the ball into the corner when through on goal. Bit worrying as an owner.

While I love Fabregas as a player, at the start of the season I thought he would play in Oscar's position more. I don't think he is worth 9-10m when I wouldnt wish to captain him.

Dummett standing in for Santon, Steven Taylor for Williamson.

Williamson is probably closer to a recovery, but whilst Santon will almost certainly regain his spot in the side when fit, Taylor has done better than Williamson has alongside Coloccini this season. Then again, Taylor himself is an injury prone player.

      Summary - I don't know!

Newcastle have only conceded 1 goal in 4 with Saylor playing. I don't think Williamson will get back on ahead of Saylor unless he gets injured or messes up severely. Dummet should be fairly nailed also. Depends on when Santon is back.

I think it's fine - but I believe there's also an option to get data without entering your password (you have to dig a bit to find it). I skimmed through their privacy policy and it seems fine, I believe they may use aggregate data to help with some of their analysis. They have the option to make changes to your squad but you have to approve it (they won't do it without your permission, and believe they charge for it anyway).

    1. The Machine
      • 12 Years

Yup. WR put it perfectly on the previous page. Not only has je got 60 mins or less which itself is too less a time to get a huge return to really make the transfer a success bit failure will result in instant removal from the team

      1. Piggs Boson

If I did get him next week I could afford Walcott alongside Sanchez and Di Maria. (With Kun, Costa, Baines). I'll probably just get Oscar instead...

        1. The Machine
          • 12 Years

I wouldn't bother with walcott just yet. Not even both planning on fitting him in. Even if he does get a start soon (and by soon I mean Gw 13) he won't be nailed on for a while

          1. Piggs Boson
            • 14 Years
            11 years, 1 month ago

Yeah you're probably right. Getting Oscar instead will avoid the whole Kane trouble too. I'd still have:

            Baines
Di Maria - Sanchez - Oscar
            Costa - Aguero

            as the core.

Agreed with above. Also considering Ade was rested completly tonight I'd say he will definitly start again. Kane would play as attacking midfielder / in the hole at best. And that would mean one of the 3 regular mids dropping out. Kane will definitly not be getting regular 70+ mins unles there are injuries. He is young and doing well in the Europa league. but more difficult to do the same over a full game in the PL, then being introduced as a super sub.

          Aguero & Alexis, I'd guess.

The thing with Baines is he won't be captained by masses, which makes a difference.

          1. MJ6987
            • 15 Years

Makes him less essential you mean?

              • 12 Years
              11 years, 1 month ago

I'd say he's essential in many ways... but in that way, yes. If you don't have Baines, you'll only ever lose 10ish points on the rest. If you don't have Aguero/Costa/Alexis/ADM etc... you may lose 20+ on the captainers, who could be large in number.

But... Baines is a must-have.. as the Scoutcast explains. Immense consistency at £7m! 🙂

Definitely in the t5, can't see him falling off the train really. Realistically a Chelsea defender might threaten for the t3 in defender rankings, but Baines game play is such a unique FPL prospect.

I'm starting to think that Aguero is the only essential forward, Sanchez the essential midfielder, and Baines the essential defender.

Costa, Di Maria and (if he really starts turning it on) Hazard are the other players explosive enough to join that list, imo, though I wouldn't say their current form puts them up there just now.

Baines is the one I haven't got, but I might just take have to take a long-term hit and get him in for Clyne/Bertrand next week.

OK all, to add some fun to the international break, I've decided to start up a new league. Scoring starts in gw12 after international break.

    Name: Rainy Day League

    Rules:

    1. *** You must have at least 10 million in the bank at all times***

    2. It must be a *new team*. Perhaps this may be your "girlfriend's team" - I would never recommend multiple accounts 😉

    League code: 104815-709859

I think this league will be fun, forcing us to go for cheaper options and creating real dilemmas when it comes to buying expensive captains or maintaining team balance.

If you think it is a fun idea, please spread the league code around to help me out. 😀

      a) if you intended to transfer out Siggy at some point anyway (and the difference between his selling value and price was an odd number i.e 0.3);
      b) if you intended to transfer in Downing at some point anyway; or
      c) you plan to get Siggy back in place of Downing at some point in the future, and downing rises double as much the difference between Siggy's selling value and his eventual buy price (for instance, if you bought him at 6.0, you would have sold him for 6.4. If you wanted him back at 6.7, you need downing to rise 0.6. If you wanted him back at 6.6, you need downing to rise 0.4)

If you can honestly say that you satisfy either a), b) or c) - well done. Otherwise, it's just a simple trade with no 'money' consideration.

This FA Cup weekend is bound to provide magic. I can't wait to watch useless footballers chase after players far superior to them, as the home crowd roars them on, hoping for a giantkilling.

Then to switch off Liverpool vs Chelsea and watch the FA Cup matches.

I wrote a post a few weeks back that got around +25 votes on his schedule... One of the things I highlighted was the fact that he only has one international game during the break, and that is about 10 days after the qpr game, so there's no reason why he shouldn't play. QPR have also been good recently while City have been atrocious, so Pellegrini will have to play him.

😆 I fear this might be the case too. Redknapp isn't so naive.

They did go on the attack against Pool and were punished with breakaway goals. Who's your C on Ryan?

Everytime i think of something that cools me off Aguero, I think of his stats, QPR's stats and City's attacking stats.

Aguero + City's attacking stats are leaps and bounds ahead of any other team at the moment - results aside.

What's this rubbish then? source: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/arsenal-news-transfers-theo-walcott-4584029

        Surely jsut rubbish

Arsenal's returning winger Theo Walcott could be the subject of a shock loan offer from Fiorentina in January, according to the Express.

The England midfielder has only just made his return to playing action after injuring his knee in January - and the Italian side are set to offer him playing time as he returns to match fitness.

Fiorentina already have Manchester City star Micah Richards on loan and are looking to bolster their line-up with more temporary signings.

Arsenal already have a host of attacking options available to them in their line-up and could afford to offload Walcott in the short-term.

Walcott would take to the pitch alongside the likes of Juan Cuadrado and Mario Gomez if he was to make the switch to Serie A.

He looked brilliant when he came on last week. I know it was up against tired legs, but still.

Theo is a player who in football manager terms I'd say is a 5 for injury proneness, but a 15+ for natural fitness. Last year it was just a couple of appearances before he was firing again (and then injured again).

With that said, the arrival of Sanchez may mean Theo is less desirable this year, but he's still one of my favourite FPL players so I'll probably have both.

i'm going against logic and gettin him this week on WC.. Best case scenario he comes off the bench and scores and is fully fit for GW 12. Worse case scenario... well this could go horribly wrong with an entire month of 1 pointers

If you have Sanchez as well, I think it's a decent move. With that said, international break means I'd probably want to have the safety of someone like Cesc or Hazard ahead of him.

Charlie Austin as alternative to Berahino & Sakho? I think Fantasy Genius brought Austin in, and I mocked him. He might be onto something though...

I'm playing around with my ticker and notice QPR have the following games from GW 13-21. This covers the very so difficult Festive Season where fixture comes fast and furious, with rotation galore.

        LEIC/swans/BURN/eve/WBA/ars/CPAL/SWA/burn

That's not bad at all. Who would not like playing the 3 of the 4 bottom teams around you? Doing well in those games could make a big difference to QPR's league position.

WHAM have good fixtures GW 13-21(Except GW 18 & 19) as well, but Downing is an alternative option to WHAM. Nothing like that at QPR. Austin is their main man, on penalties and he seems to be in form with 3 goals and an assist in his last 3 games.

        Speak to me.

                  Downster: NEWC/wba/SWANS/sun/LEIC

I like him as an option. QPR's form on the rise, and he has penalties + he isn't just coming back from injury and has some nice fixtures + isn't under threat from another striker and is their main forward.

I probably would've got him in over Sakho had I not done my transfers early and in haste to beat the price rises.

Another captain decision to make. Last week I got lucky and chose Sanchez. This week I fear I could make the wrong decision.

Aguero with amazing stats but a team that is so low on confidence, playing QPR who have great support at home. I wouldn't be that surprised to see an upset.

Then there is Pelle, team playing so well, against Leicester, can see Saints scoring a few unless they become complacent..

        Pelle (C)?

Gerrard is struggling at DM though. Although I remember reading something about Gerrard moving back higher up the pitch and having a word with Rodgers about it. Can't find it though...

I'll note down your names and PM each of you if Gerrard scores this WE
