A wind of change is in the air as the community battens down the hatches and braces itself for a dramatic shift in the fixture list. As we patiently sit through the third international break of the season, our community writers have indulged in a spot of crystal ball gazing, with a little help from their calculators and, surprisingly, Jimmy Bullard. We also catch up on the latest statistics in our members tables and some impressive league leaders in our community tournaments.

The Community Articles

Crystal ball gazing was taken to new number crunching levels by Footballoholic and Gillesdegoult this week. Firstly, Footballoholic presented this excellent look at the goal scoring potential of all Premier League sides over the next six weeks, based on the defensive form of their opponents, before Gillesdegoult then followed this research up by combining attacking form of all teams.

Heels over heads was also busy soothsaying, looking at the defensive form of Premier League sides over a number of seasons to assess whether Southampton can significantly add to their seven clean sheets so far.

Christina has been looking ahead to Christmas and provided us with this Dickensian look at some of the Premier League’s struggling sides chances of success over the festive period.

Finally, with a little bit of help from former Wigan and Hull legend Jimmy Bullard, John Terry’s Dog looked at the similarities of being a Fantasy Football manager and running a business.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article. We also offer £25 to the writer of the most popular article each month.

The Hottest Topics

An imminent shift in the fixture list, when Southampton’s kind run comes to a dramatic end and Chelsea and Liverpool face easier opposition, dominated discussion this week.

Ahead of Liverpool’s run over the next four Gameweeks (cpl, STO, lei, SUN) many are eagerly awaiting Daniel Sturridge’s return from injury. In our discussion on how his comeback will affect our teams, Doosra and myself took a good look into his recent statistics to assess just whether his reputation for selfishness in front of goal is myth or reality.

For many, though, Liverpool’s good fixtures mean little when their recent form is so dire. In our discussion on the form over fixtures debate Moin was among the fixture list fans, while Gary 32 pointed out that Spurs recent poor home record against weaker teams proves form can often win the day.

Turning to Southampton’s poor run of fixtures, that includes Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal in the next four, Dat Guy has been looking at the south coast side’s form against bigger sides. This provided a compelling argument for ditching Saints defenders, while in stark contrast Accounting on Chris believes that they could be worth hanging onto despite the tough upcoming opposition.

Dat Guy also looked at some emerging conflict of interests coming up in the fixture list, where popular defenders face well-owned attackers. To get on top of such issues the community is urged to make full use of our season ticker, which has been afforded an autumnal refresh to take recent form into account.

Chelsea’s fine upcoming run (WBA, sun, TOT, new, HUL, sto) has many Fantasy managers mulling over which Blues players to draft in. But Sinik wonders whether now may be a good time to cash in on Cesc Fabregas’s recent price rises and look elsewhere among their ranks. Eden Hazard has the potential to thrive but Eaglia remains unconvinced and believes his strong performances are still not being converted into solid Fantasy Football returns.

On numerous occasions, a change in system can be attributed as a key reason for some players’ failure to being in the points. However, in Giggs Boson’s tactics talk, he believes it’s far too simplistic to blame formations when players fail.

Among those to benefit from a team’s change in tactics is Leighton Baines, who, under manager Roberto Martinez, has been given considerable licence to attack down Everton’s left flank. In our latest round up of so-called ‘essential’ players Baines was a name mentioned time and again – Brian (not the messiah) is among his many fans and later in the week urged Baines owners to cling on to him for dear life. Another member of the Baines fan club is MJ6987, who placed the Everton defender on his list of the best four Fantasy assets.

Our biggest discussion this week was sparked by Bojan Is For Kinnear with the simple line “You know you’re a Fantasy Football addict when…â€. Among the best replies was from TheHut who recounted the many times his question of ‘who got the assist’ is met with incredulity from fellow spectators.

Finally, a message from Bsloebadger also proved to be one of the most talked about hot topics this week. Concerned that people take too much heed in a person’s rank when receiving advice, he instead believes everyone’s advice is valid, whether highly or lowly ranked. The key criteria for giving and receiving advice should instead be politeness, he added.

The Members Tables

Manchester United is another team that have improved fixtures on the horizon. I’ve been taking a look at their attacking threat. Members are urged to sort this table by last two Gameweeks to see who has been the Red Devils’ most prolific shooters since their switch to a more defensive formation.

Sturridge’s imminent return prompted Doosra to carry out a temporary revamp of his Forward Foragers table, which takes a look at the strikers who excel at holding the ball and providing chances. This now focuses on last season’s statistics to give a better look at the Liverpool striker’s statistics.

Elsewhere, Guidinho has constructed a table to focus on full back potential, with a strong focus on crossing and creativity.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, 878 teams survived after 54 were eliminated when the safety score was set at 55.

In the Fantasy Football Scout moderators and contributors league Tinkerman has opened up a 22 lead on second placed Mark. With a rank of 79th overall, Tinkerman will be tough to catch.

Tinkerman has to settle for second in the Long and Winding Road main league behind league leader King Nil Miss, who is 18th overall.

Rasping Drive, who is 43rd overall, continues to dominate many of our other community leagues, topping the FFS Old Farts Club, FFS Dead Zone and The Puffinboy Memorial Cup.

I have just enough for ADM+Henderson>Sanchez+Downing (-4). I should do that, ya?

The other idea would be to keep ADM (at least through the next 3 GWs including HUL, STK) and focus on grabbing a defender for probably Bertrand and pick up Chadli for Hendo, and focus on grabbing a defender for probably Bertrand (I think i'll season-keep Forster and Clyne who are also in my lineup). Would that be better?

Ivanovic has been in good form i feel, but not converting it into fantasy points. That and some bad luck with the officials have me hesitant on spending that money on defense in a year when points are slim if your name isn't Leighton Baines (whom i do have). If Baines' injury is more serious, i'll ship him for Ivanovic.

I hear ya. I feel as though a few of Chelsea's CSs have slipped away by a goal here or there almost literally trickling in.

Also thought about Azpi, but a lot of the forward action is already taking place ahead of him, especially by Hazard.

But you think those CSs will go up before GW20 with December's hectic schedule? What makes you feel so strongly?

as you said CSs have just been slipping away recently, against strong oppositions.

i believe chelsea will have to rely on their defence to get them through the upcoming hectic fixtures to keep their run going which i think they are capable of. plus look at their fixtures

              west brom
              sunderland
              spurs
              newcastle
              hull
              stoke

based on current form, only newcastle stand a chance.

Its fairly up in the air which one of ADM or Sanchez will score more in the next few weeks. I opted for Sanchez when selling Fabregas though, because he's been playing as a striker. Not sure i would sell adm now, though I will say that i think Siggy is better value than him, as is oscar, and sterling probably. imo ofcourse.

I have Oscar and Siggy 🙂

        Well, since i've started...

        Forster (Heaton)
        Baines Bertrand Clyne (Duff Wisdom)
        ADM Jedinak Oscar Siggy (Hendo)
        Sakho Aguero Costa

I'm also intrigued by seeing how Sterling does with Sturridge gets back. I think i can afford him and Chadli. Is Chadli for real? Is Downing for that matter?

Chadli's scoring rate is unsustainable imo. Others will tell you different but thats my opinion based on the stats ive seen. Take it with a pinch of salt

Hendo could also benefit from Sturridge fwiw, dont forget that 😉

Ive had downing in my team since gw7. in fact, when i got him in he had less than 1% ownership, now he's mainstream. Popular for a reason 😉

Nice early call on Downing. Doesn't hurt your TV either. You're also right about Hendo, but i've had him all season, and i think i want Chadli or Downing in there (both greater options i think than Hendo) at least until my winter wildcard.

Thanks. I've been aware of Giroud's recovery, but hadn't thought about it in terms of Sanchez. Think Wenger might play Wellbz and Olivier up front? Would that push Alexis out wide again? If that doesn't work, isn't Wenger smart enough to put him back in the middle as an attacking mid? (Of course i don't expect all of this to be answered right now, but just thinking out loud.)

But even if all of that^ does happen, maybe ADM'll take advantage of those fixtures while Arsenal goes through something to figure their stuff out.

maybe think of it like this: instead of Foster-Azpi, you can have Courtois-Wisdom+0.4... for example. Azpi isn't going to get many assist points so Courtois and him will get similar output, minus the baps ofcourse

Btw, fwiw a couple of my personal guidelines with transfers (that i pieced together from advice learnt from people on here):

        1. Only buy players who are nailed-on.
        2. Don't take hits to get rid of players who are playing.

So I was watching a really long interview on youtube the other day of a guy called John Lear, who is the son of Bill Lear (founder of Lear Jet) and Area-51 insider. Lots and lots of interesting stuff said by him, that all checks out... Did you know that the moon doesn't actually spin, so we only see one side of it at all times? Well the other side, "the dark side of the moon", is actually an alien base.

But thats a discussion for another day! Sweet dreams! 😀

The moon does spin, it just spins at an almost identical rate that it orbits the earth. If it didn't spin then halfway around its orbit of the earth you'd see the other side of it 😉

It should be spinning about its own axis, not just moving relative to the earth, but it doesn't.

Imagine if you've got something hidden behind your back, and you're trying to avoid showing it to someone infront of you. If they move you would move circularly to avoid turning your back to them, rather than spinning around. The moon does the same thing, only moving relative to the Earth, but never rotating around its own axis (which would be akin to you spinning around on the spot, whereby revealing whats behind your back).

The Earth spins while it orbits the sun, hence why we don't only have seasons in the year (as the Earth moves around the Sun, but also days as the Earth rotates around its own axis.

                      Hope that makes sense.

All of which is very strange behavior from a mass the size of the moon with its own gravitational field. Its almost as if something is keeping it static on purpose... 😉

It rotates around its own axis the exact same way the earth rotates around its axis...

It rotates completely around its axis about once every 28 (earth) days, the same rate that it orbits earth.

Actually its 27.3 days iirc, in an elliptical orbit in fact, but its still quite unique and coincidental behaviour for two planetary objects to orbit each other in such perfect sync.

So the natural conclusion is that some alien race must've adjusted the rotation of a massive planetary object in order to keep their base on the moon a secret from us plebs?

I mean that's far simpler to do than to construct the base under the moon's surface. Those clever aliens.

But it isn't a secret, there just happens to be many ridiculous alternative stories circulated by a very well coordinated propaganda machine to make people think that the whole thing is some insane conspiracy. Only about 1% of whats written on the subject is true, but once you filter through all the noise you'll get to actual truth.

Its not really that hard to cover it up, all you need is a propaganda mechanism, fear tactics for those in-the-know, and the ability to eliminate or discredit whistle-blowers.

What kind of 'research' have you done? Reading up on some nutter's conspiracy theory? There are plenty of articles available that adequately refute every single 'moon hoax' claim - the flag is fluttering, no stars visible etc, including the doctored Nasa photo claims. The clowns that made those hoax documentaries even had the truth about all their claims explained to them and refuted, but they ran with the documentary regardless - guess the lure of making a buck took precedence over the truth...

450 years ago people were ridiculed for saying the Earth was round. 200 years ago people were ridiculed for saying that the Earth was not at the center of the Universe, but did in fact orbit around the Sun.

You can call me a nutter if you want, and its understandable that you do, but I'd just ask you to read up on the subject with a critical mindset(!) to separate the disinformation and misinformation from the fact.

I've read plenty on it mate, when I first saw that hoax documentary years ago I looked right into it, and have seen all the claims refuted and explained logically. You should do the same. Just google 'refuting moon hoax claims' or something similar, I'm sure all the articles I've read would still be around somewhere.

As I said, there's alot of disinformation and misinformation spread to discredit the subject on purpose. 99% of what is available in the mainstream about the topic is bogus, so I suggest you check out the interviews I mentioned.

    What's the best move? (1FT, 0.1ITB)

    DDG; (Gilks)
    Jagielka, Bertrand, O'Shea; (Coloccini, Duff)
    Sanchez, Fabregas, Siggy, Downing; (Marney)
    Aguero, Costa, Pelle

    Currently thinking DDG -> Guzan

don't rely on stats that much. soton play city arsneal utd in the space of 9 days, you think they can keep keep Neo's bertrand can keep a cleansheet and pelle can score a goal in each of those fixtures? im sure there are less riskier options

I am definitely selling Betrand, but not so sure about Pelle. But downgrading Pelle means I can upgrade in my mid/def so I am considering Pelle to Austin. Of course none of these this week while Soton playing Villa.

Once again a disappointment for Finland after a decent game vs hungary. Hungary scored from a cross, a cross that should never end to a goal. The cross itself was great, but gera was alone There between the two finnish defs. The defs should never lose that kind of battle. Decent performance just isn't enough to win. When there's a chance to score, score!!!

Other than your lack of bench depth to cover baines which you have identified, your team is fine. Im not sure how hutton injury going id be ok to play him if fit rather than take a hit though no guarantee he will go straight back in. If baines out for a few weeks you may as well suck it up and take another hit now, worth 4 pts to have a decent defender over moore/hutton over a few game weeks.

If you have nothing else that's urgent, that seems like a great move. Costa seems like one of those players that's going to be near-essential whenever he's fit ala Kun from last season.

Well, I don't have Sanchez but can't bring him in without taking a hit. With Costa I can do it for free. The only thing that's worrying me is his 4 YCs.

Ah it's a tough call. But Costa could do the damage on any given week the way we're playing. Considering that, one missed game isn't too bad. Hopefully it will be in the week of the COC.

I'd probably save. Pelle is captain material this week. Well, both I do them are. You just have to hope that whichever one you have does the business. It can go either way, and just because it can go either way I'd save.

True but there's a sign that Villa are tightning up & Brom are leaking. Chelsea is a better team than Saints & playing at home. If Pelle does scores it could well be Tadic assisting him so kind of damage limitation there. Costa has more pedigree I feel as the game will be at Bridge.

Some injuries at the back for Villa, and they were lucky vs West Ham. Really, the defence is turd, and I'm a Villan. Costa is the 'safer' option though.
