The Numbers Game – 2014/15 Review – West Ham

Our members articles analysing last season are completed today with a review of West Ham’s performances. The Hammers entered 2014/15 in reasonable health, having finished 13th in the Premier League in the previous campaign, although they only gained 40 points and did flirt with the relegation zone before finally confirming their top-flight status.

Plenty of changes were made in both playing and coaching personnel at Upton Park last summer, with forwards Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho brought in, while Teddy Sheringham joined up as an attacking coach. Cheikhou Kouyate and Aaron Cresswell were also signed, while Carl Jenkinson and Alex Song moved to the Hammers on season-long loans.

In this members article, we asses the main goal threats and creators in Sam Allardyce’s final year at the helm and also compare the team’s attacking numbers to the previous year.

        I'm thinking about WC in GW12 but I am struggling to make a nice team with Aguero, Sanchez and Hazard as the two formers are injured. I have no idea who to get in as it leaves me with no Southampton coverage.

      Like it myself, as it's very similar to mine, I have Caz rather than Ozil though. I'm just trying to find a million to swop Milner for Mane so as not to double up on Liverpool with Benteke and Milner, but can't find it!

    Is there no love for a WBA/NOR GK rotation ? I haven't seen anyone with Myhill and Ruddy.

    When you look at the fixtures there's not really a difference between WBA/NOR and STK/NOR which is everybody so keen on.

      Originally had Benteke and Henderson but then dropped Hendo, although at 7.0m Milner and Hendo do offer fantastic value!

      Oscar is an intriguing choice, as is Defoe. Seen many teams with Defoe them today though, have I missed something? Maybe 7 years ago.

        Yeah, am convinced after today's showing (or lack of) from Chelsea that Oscar will play a big part and could be a decent differential.

        You're right, not much on the bench, but then I figure that the midfield won't need to rotate at all and 2 out of the three strikers will play every week too.

        Defoe will be out after Sunderland's good run of games at the start is done, by then there should be a good third striker option showing through.

        Formation will be 3-4-3 as much as possible, switching to 4-4-2 if required

      If you've got two players from any of those player's teams, rule them out so you're flexible.

      Not Barry, I don't think he's nailed on this season. I probably like Mulumbu most, but he's an injury doubt... I think Bentaleb might be a good bet, they played Eric Dier in midfield with him, which could see him get forward more. Fletcher and Surman have the advantage of not being card magnets.

    Thoughts:
    Ivanovic always starts the season on fire, Arsenal and Swansea are solid, Joe Gomez a risk im willing to take (dont see the appeal of having a bournemouth defender)
    Mane has good fixtures and could be explosive
    Kane has good fixtures after GW1, Deeney a punt and I think his style suits the prem.

    Ok so the Defender slot was a little trickier than originally thought.

    We have a result on style of defense, but need more votes for names.

    The votes went for Ivanovic, with some varying options along side him.

    So defenders round two!, place your votes now!

    A) Ivanovic and two rotating pairs for the other spots! (Include names in your votes, eg, Francis and Prodl)

    B) Ivanovic and another premium, like Koscielney, and a three way rotation (Include names in your votes, eg, Francis and Prodl)

    C) Ivanovic and Cedric playing every week, with a three way rotation.

    D) Name you chosen players with Ivanovic, most names players get in to the build a team, team!

      Wally to Mane and you can upgrade Francis to a 5.5 like Mert. If you did that, you could just leave Baker as you would never use that defender anyway.
