Memphis Depay nets twice as United grab a commanding first-leg lead over Belgian outfit Brugge. The FA reject West Ham’s appeal over Adrian’s sending off, Villa’s Jack Grealish could be in line for a weekend return, whilst Dick Advocaat contemplates changes to the Sunderland defence.

Depay Brace Sees off Brugge

Manchester United triumphed 3-1 at Old Trafford over opponents Club Brugge in the first leg of their Champions League play-off. Following a Michael Carrick own goal, Memphis Depay hit back with two excellent strikes in the first half to grant the Red Devils the lead. Marouane Fellaini then nodded home in the 94th minute to extend the hosts’ advantage.

The Scout Says: Louis van Gaal named the same XI that secured the win against Villa last Friday, fielding Depay on the left wing and Adnan Januzaj in “the hole” behind lone striker Wayne Rooney. Considering how Depay flourished in his favoured wide role – with his second goal of the ilk that he routinely produced at PSV Eindhoven – you’d fancy him to be deployed there henceforth. Over 32,000 FPL managers have now drafted him in this week as United prepare for the visit of Newcastle. With the Netherlands international shifted from the number ten berth, Januzaj and Fellaini (who is still suspended domestically) will be hoping to secure a central role, though it’s clear that Van Gaal is still in the market to strengthen his attack, with Thomas Mueller and Pedro strongly linked. Having bagged the winner against the Villains, Januzaj will likely be afforded another opportunity to impress in the league before Fellaini’s three-match suspension is finally served.

Adrian ban upheld by FA

West Ham’s appeal over Adrian’s weekend dismissal was rejected by the FA yesterday, meaning his three-match suspension will remain in effect.

The Scout Says: West Ham’s upcoming schedule (BOU, liv, NEW) throws up two home ties that looked like prime targets for clean sheet points, compounding the impact of Adrian’s ban. Recruited from Birmingham this summer, substitute shot-stopper Darren Randolph is very much an unknown quantity at this level, casting doubt over his ability to be an able stand-in. Fantasy managers in possession of Hammers defenders have reason to be confident, though, after witnessing Slaven Bilic’s troops rebuff Arsenal’s advances in Gameweek 1. Those that jumped on the Reece Oxford bandwagon, however, will likely be eyeing up alternatives, with Pedro Obiang expected to usurp the 16-year-old in central midfield at Upton Park against the Cherries.

Grealish plots comeback against Eagles

Having scored on his return to action with the Aston Villa U21s this week, Jack Grealish could return to the matchday squad for the senior side’s trip to Crystal Palace. Meanwhile, Tim Sherwood also revealed that Carles Gil was withdrawn from the reserve match through injury, while Jores Okore and Jose Angel Crespo are recuperating well from their respective knocks:

“The Derby match was a good workout for the boys. They need games – the lads who haven’t been playing. I thought Jack was very good. He played to the last minute. He looked fit enough to maybe be up for selection this weekend. Carles came off with a tight groin which is an indication the lack of training he has actually done. He will get fitter. Jores is not fit yet. But he is out there running. Jose is still not fit. He picked up a groin problem a few minutes into the Nottingham Forest game. It is disappointing for him – and the rest of us. But he won’t be too far away. Overall, we’re quite healthy.”

The Scout Says: Following the arrival of Jordan Ayew and Adama Traore this summer, Sherwood has a multitude of wide options at his disposal, negating the need to expedite Grealish’s return to first-team action. Nonetheless, the West Midlands club could certainly do with some of the academy product’s invention, considering their lack of creative spark across the opening two Gameweeks: no side has created fewer chances (eight) or fashioned fewer goal attempts (12) than Villa.

Advocaat contemplates defensive reshuffle

Baffled by the ineptitude of his team’s rearguard, Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat has threatened to enact changes for Swansea City’s visit on Saturday. In particular, The Dutchman implored his full-backs to concentrate on their defending:

“I didn’t want to change the back-line already after one game. But at the moment, there are players playing who I can’t understand why they are playing that way. I cannot understand it, honestly. But there must be a reason and I hope that they can tell me. I spoke to the players and told them that we like full-backs, who if the possibility comes, they go forward. But I’ve changed that. I’ve now set up a different way. The first way for the back four is now defence. And then the opponent cannot get the kind of space they got at Leicester. Take care of your man, and beside that, if you can do a little bit more, then go forwards, otherwise not. We have to change the basic facts.”

The Scout Says: John O’Shea – who was a stalwart in the Black Cats’ defence last term, starting all but one league tie as the Wearsiders went on to bag an impressive 13 clean sheets – looks likely to be drafted in for either Younes Kaboul or Sebastien Coates in light of their dreadful starts. Furthermore, with right-back Adam Matthews waiting in the wings, Billy Jones’ starting berth is seriously under threat. Meanwhile, Patrick van Aanholt (5.0)’s attacking instincts – which engendered five assists in the previous campaign – are set to be reined in by Advocaat, reducing his prospects further as we look to bail out on the Black Cats backline.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Wildcard template v Gwk 1 template

For those not wildcarding why are you sticking with your Gameweek 1 side? Which players are you keeping faith with?

For those wildcarding, why have you lost patience so quickly with your initial selection? Which players that you've dumped do you fear the most?

        I lost patience with:

        Panti, Hennessey
        Kos, Cedric
        Walcott, Mane, Sinclair, Fletcher
        Rooney, Wilson.

I think that calls for a Carlsberg, I mean Wildcard

Keeping faith because I trust my instincts on Fabregas and Sterling to deliver in near future (or wishful thinking..)

Also I believe after 2 GWs out of 38, there's not enough data to establish who will perform. Also if Chelsea do bad now, they're bound to pick up soon.

I had 2FT's so used them... TV is 100.1 and I believe price rises with so many on WC will be off by some margin.

I am happy to sit tight and give the team a chance... unfortunately Walcott and Rooney had to go. May come back to bite me.

I picked up Gomis and Sanchez for the above 2 and banked the cash for now.

      I'm sticking because:

      a) Many of them are big team players and I always fancy the big teams to come good e.g. Azpi, Merts, Ozil.

      b) All of them are fit and playing and I have rued the use of a wildcard before, when my squad is suddenly decimated by injuries.

      c) It's two weeks in and I feel a wildcard is a kneejerk reaction. Is two weeks enough to be called 'form'?

Why are you sticking with your GW1 side? Because GW2 has only just finished and I don't want a 34 GW gap between my two wildcards!

If you were a manager of a team (in the real world) and you were 2-0 after 5 minutes to two freak goals, would you make a substitution? Of course you wouldn't!

A better analogy might be a manager looking to shuffle his team after 2 horrible games, which reading the article looks very likely for Sunderland for rxample. That said I agree it's way too early to make informed decisions with a WC at this stage. It's purely people knee jerking and worrying about team value. They may yet be right...

All over this. If I was planning to use the second WC on New Year's Day I might have pressed the trigger this week but I don't really want to have to limp my squad through 34 GWs without any security.

Icon's right that shuffling the team after two bad games is a good analogy so that's what I've done. Took a -4 and 2 FTs to reshuffle a bit. No manager drops his entire team to 'freshen it up'. Two or three changes in key positions should be sufficient at this stage.

Why I've lost patience so quickly? 49 pts over two GW's, not a single CS, not a single goal, 3 assists where two players (Cedric+Hendo) were subbed early. Walcott was a huge gamble who failed miserably. Kane looks tired. Rooney looks like he's lost it. Who I fear of the one I've dumped? None of them.. Maybe Mane a little bit but I think there's several budget mids who offers better value right now.

Exactly this. Sitting at an overall rank of 2.5m with 58 points and not a single player scored. I think in situations like this when your team is so far of the pace with under performing players + 2 or more players who are benched (Walcott) or very likely to be benched (Ivan) a WC is justifiable. Other than Mane I have no players who've shown even a glimmer of form so I pulled the trigger.

Not Wildcarding cause i want to keep my 2nd WC for the DGW Benchboost combo GW 33+ and dont want to go 30 games WCless. Add the fixture shift around GW 12 for EVE, Che, Mautd, More info regarding who are the good fpl options, and The fact that you can take punts and then WC ur way out of trouble if things go bad and keeping my WC has been a no brainer. Also i quite fancy
Hazard/Chadli/Shelvey/Ozil/Sakho/Rooney who i currently own to do OK and switching em out for options that have "proven" themselves over 2 weeks is just crazy

DGW Benchboost combo likely will best be used GW36 (WC) and GW37 (BB) - see this....... http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/10937451

So a GW2 WC will mean a 34 week gap between WCs (if you go for this tactic) - crazy!!!

Hope you're right about a GW37 DGW. It would certainly make using the bench boost more viable as you wouldn't leave yourself in quite as big a hole with the squad you'd created to take advantage of it. You'd only have GW38 to scramble over the line rather than having to slowly reconstruct.

I've summed up my thoughts in this article I've written (shameless plug):
      http://fantasyyirma.com/2015/08/19/man-uniteds-rooney-out-man-citys-aguero-in-fpl-masterplan/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

It is a battle between a complete overhaul and keeping patience, and I have tried to find a middle ground. By adding Aguero and Mahrez, my team includes Ozil, Sanchez, Aguero, Mahrez, Mane, Azpi, Mertesacker, Benteke, Butland and Wilson. While some aren't performing, I don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. There are other tweaks I want to make (not happy with Coates in my team), but nothing that required drastic surgery.

I couldn't really see another 4.5 defender I wanted. Planning on bringing in Silva and Kompany over the next couple of weeks, probably for a hit, then I think I'm pretty set. As people say above, I don't want a 30 week gap between WCs.

I've taken a risk on Gomez myself, I have been impressed by him so far and at 4.6 for a lIverpool defender he's a bargain. Can probably handle it alright if he gets rotated as my backline is solid. Gomez would only be a 4th defender anyway

Gomez does look a very good option, I did toy with that but didn't want to commit in case I end up being sucked in by Kolarov; then I would need 4 others who are certain to play.

Depends on how you line up. I like to have two defenders I can play week in week out and then rotate the other three. I don't necessarily look at fixtures for rotation - although that is part of it.I also look at whether they are nailed on and are capable of getting results in tough games too. Basically with a wildcard I want to avoid swapping defenders so want to rely on all three of my 4.5s.

Huth/Morgan and Richards are great options - fit my criteria perfectly.

I also like Ward for Palace. Look at Stoke too. Shawcross is out for a while so consider one of there's. Cameron did me proud last season. I would also consider Bournemouth's Francis - the fixtures are good and while they have lost both they were hardly turned over in both. Both could easily have been 0-0.

I'd also consider a Watford option. Prodl perhaps? They are showing defensive resolve.

There is lots of choice this season in the 4.5m category.

Cheers for the reply considering butland for Stoke cover rotating with another 4.5 gk and had not considerd Watford at all yet so will look into that, they appear well set up defensively so prodl might be the answer. It's a toss up between him and Francis?

Held off my WC until last night and caved in.. Have never played an early WC in 7 years but last year I lost touch of my rivals at an early stage having been a top 5k finish for 3 years running..
I kept hoping things would come good for initial selections and ended up with too big of a gap to close and was like 70,000 in the end, my worst EVER finish..

Lost: Cedric, Merte, Coates, Huth, Hazard, Mane, Sterling, Walcott, Rooney, Sakho, Bentekke...
Spending the next few days planning my revised team..

I dumped Mings, Coates, Ritchie, Mane, Hazard, Rooney, Sakho, Jerome.
And have bought in Ayew, Mahrez, Aguero, Gomis, Kompany.

So, looks like a massive bangwagon jump, but I think my team is in much better shape.
And I reckon i'll be looking at a price swing of 1.5M or so, not just on price rises but on avoiding drops.

Sticking with Pelle - bit of a donkey but his presence in the box means he will get plenty of cheap points hopefully.

Sticking with Sakho - has been bright, very unlucky not to get any returns so far. or at least that's what I'm telling myself.

Hazard - hopefully his class comes through this weekend.

Poor start to the season and the volatile nature of the risers/fallers made me wildcard having a defender drop to 4.4 and no 4m option presents a tricky situation. Going Hazard less is always going to be a major concern.....I think

I'm reasonably happy with my team, made the necessary changes and have taken a hit to keep things somewhat up to date. Its only been 2GW's so will keep faith in Kane, Sakho, Ozil, Sterling, Mane. They are players I think will do well.

Some of my bad picks were just bad luck--most people would have thought they were good picks but they just didn't work out. Ulloa was stupid and a little more research would have shown me he was out of favour; but who knew Bellerin would be worth 2 points over two weeks, or that Ivan would be worth 1? Wally was a commonplace mistake, as was Rooney who looks spent. Hazard might not have been a mistake, but he hasn't justified his price, and nor really has Sterling. Anyway, those are all gone, and the only ones I fear biting me are Sterling and Hazard, and not very much at the moment.

In the end, I WCd Friday night because I was tired of watching others' teams grow in value while mine sank, and I have memories of having acted too slowly two years ago, and watching half the players in the game race off into the sunset with Ramsey and Toure while I stuck to the plan.

I hit the WC purely on the fear of losing TV.

Sterling, Hazard, Rooney, Francis, Sinclair were all predicted to drop.

Coupled with wanting to get Aguero and Sanchez in.

I feel the main difference in price changes this year is the volatile drops, a lot of good options are dropping in price and a bad start to the season would have left me with a TV of 99m.

By wildcarding I can pick up the rises and grab the good options that do drop in price, and shake up a team that was based on assumptions that have not materialised, I.e. Chelsea assests priced as best team in the league when they are currently far from that.

I would have lined to be more patient, but price rises and falls tipped me over the edge.

I lost faith primarily with Rooney, Sterling, Sinclair, Walcott and Ivanovic.

I wanted Sanchez, Silva and Aguero. I've also put in the rest of the template.

I'm surprised at the amount of vitriol for those who have wild carded. If you don't need to great, but if you need to play early then this was the week with the combination of risers and fallers. Also, if you get the wildcard right, and gain some value then it's a lot easier to iron out other problems which arise. A couple if seasons ago I had a poor opening to the season and I couldn't catch up. This was primarily because I didn't make changes quick enough. I kept saying to myself that Ramsey and Yaya and others can't keep this up, by the time I played the wc and shuffled the pack it was too late.

I WCed because I'm sitting on 50 points at 2.8 millionth in the world. The WC was a beautiful ray of sunshine in my dull, dreary, depressing fantasy life.

Seriously though, I took a hit already to get Aguero in, and had 5-6 players that were projected to fall in price. That's 0.6 of TV, which was too much for me.

New team is one I'm way happier with and will get more TV.

WCed this week and only player i have from my GW1 team is Sakho, and he is getting only one more game to prove him self.

Didnt mean to WC but the price changes made me do it, with Panti, Henessey, Huth, MAne, Bentaleb, Haz, Rooney all set to drop this week and the likes of Kosc and Cedric probably going down next week if they dont keep CS this week i feel that with price raises to Kolarov, Silva, Richards, Gomis, Payet, Ayew etc i had to use my WC.

I think i will save at least a million just this week on price changes and that is way to much to pass.

I really can't decide. I have the key players I want but the balance isn't there in terms of rotations. A wildcard seems a bit drastic just to bring in a backup to Kasper, switch about a couple of defenders and the 4th / 5th miss. But then is keeping is really that worthwhile?

      I'm torn...

Not wildcarding because I did 3 transfers for a -4 to keep the price drops in my team reasonable.

If the players showing form were the big hitters like Hazard, Rooney, Kane, Sanchez, I would wildcard.

Im not about to wildcard for Gomis, Mahrez, Kolarov, Hoolahan etc.

The old saying about form being temporary and class being permanent is true. So I'm not throwing the WC away to get a few swansea and leicester players in soon as they have 2 good games

      1. Rossonero

But there are big hitters showing form, Kun, Silva, Yaya, Sanchez (imo was very good and should have 2-3 goals already) and the Gomis, Mahrez etc are just mid/low price players that are in great form and have good fixtures so its logical to have them in your team because they will get you points and team value.

The likes of Haz, Roo, Rambo are players that many went with but are in poor form, their clubs are in poor form and their value is decreasing.

Can't see why people say Ozil is in form and not Rambo, because of one assist that wasn´t even a good pass? Rambo could have easily had a goal or an assist in last game.
Just don't think it's very smart to try to guess who are in form based on two games.

The wildcard teams are all the same, if Mahrez blanks and Hazard scores I wouldn't be surprised. Not wildcarding is pretty much a differential now. Most of my players (bar defence, which is never a reason to WC) are looking good.

Have switched out Rooney, Walcott and Sinclair for Aguero, Yaya and Albrighton. May still switch Ivanovic to Kompany, or switch PvA to Williams/Arsenal.

Wasn't expecting a fast start from Man City - come on, who really predicted two 3-0 wins away to Pulis' West Brom and at home to Chelsea?

Keeping faith with Lukaku, Gomis, Fabianski and Mané - form over fixtures (even for Mané who has good stats and chances but no goals/assists yet), and with Hazard and Cedric, because those teams will get their act together soon enough for me.

I had two FTs but wildcarded due to 51 points after 2 gws, and OR of 2.8 million - my worst ever start by a country mile. Also the rule changes this year meant that it was futile to hang on to the wc for dgws as I had done in previous years.
Players I fear getting rid of: I suppose Hazard will now troll me and return to form, Wally will start and score, Sterling will emerge as essential, So'ton defence will tighten up, Rooney will come good as will Sakho.... But I had to do something after my disastrous start.

I am playing my wildcard this week. My initial squad was not bad but not performing e.g. Hazard, Rooney, Mane, Walcott etc. Also, my defence did not have one clean sheet over the first two gameweeks. Gameweek one I got a total of 26, one of my lowest scores ever. I took a -4 last week to bring in Payet and Gomis. I captained Gomis and it paid off and I finished with 45 (minus 4). An improvement on week one. Was thinking of taking another -4 this week to bring in Kun and Alexis but my defence needs a lot of work as well. So I decided to play my wildcard.

Am shaping my team at the moment and am making a good 8/9 changes. Trying to bring in players who have good stats from the last two weeks and/or are clearly in form, as well as keeping an eye on their future fixtures. Also, I am trying to set up the team so that making future adjustments wont be too difficult e.g. starting to bring in a Chelsea player or two once they inevitably get their act together.

I know that a lot of players on this site are very opposed to playing a wildcard at this stage as the transfer window is not shut. I am aware of this too but I don't think that many major players are going to emerge post September 1st, at least not in the numbers that will make me rue using my wildcard. Any major new signings who explode on the scene should be able to be drafted in by using FT's or even taking the odd -4.

Also, I genuinely think the new wildcard system changes the dynamic of playing it. The addition of a second wildcard usable at anytime from gameweek 20 onwards makes using the first wildcard early that less risky as saving it for a juicy double gameweek is no longer a concern. Most dgw's occur in the second half of the season when we will now have a second wildcard. So happy days!

Best of luck of everyone (but especially those of us using our wildcards this week!)

Jonty. A Strange question, I hope you can help. I have taken a 40 point hit in transfers this week, in anticipation of a league I am in starting gameweek 3.

Now i know the points will come off other leagues I have been in since week one, but does anyone know if that 40 point hit will also come off my total in the new league once gameweek 3 is over?

This league is the main one I am interested in.

Your expert opinion would be great here!

I'm not wildcarding just yet because I just feel its a waste to use it so early when we had umlimited changes just 3 weeks ago. Also, it's only been 2 GWs which is relatively a small sample of information compared with 4 or 8 which is where I plan to use it

The main reason is that my team was crap and was filled with players not doing very well: statistically, points wise, value wise or indeed to the naked eye. On top of this there are many players doing the exact opposite.

Who knows how long the bandwagons will last or when Chelsea and Rooney will find some form. I just know I'd rather be with the players in form, waiting for them to lose it, than those without form and waiting for them to find it.

It was a close call whether or not to WC for me this week. I felt the price rises were driving this decision rather than actual need to WC.

      GW1 Team underwhelmed (37pts)

      Panti (Butland)

      Huth Mertesacker Francis (Cedric) (Bassong)

      Mane Mahrez Depay Hazard Walcott

      Wilson Rooney Sakho

Changes Panti to Adrian 🙁 for GW 2) pts 28pts)

Knee jerk reaction was that I needed to WC. But decided against with priority of getting in Aguero before price rise was key took focus and was achieveable with minimal hits.

So I did Rooney to Aguero and Walcott to Chadli

Whilst there are other bandwagons forming I think that by playing WC too early you are forgoing key information between now and tv deadline day.

Additionally Chelsea/United and City are likely to dip into market before deadline day and feel that some bargains might emerge. Namely reshuffle of Chelsea backline, DDG is he staying or going ? Attacking options Shaqiri ? Muller ? KDB ? to name but a few.

By then also some on the fence decisions will be ditched or retained. Namely Depay, Hazzard and Sakho.

I can see the merits of wild card early if you are disgruntled with your team so early on. But these players were picked for reason. Two GWs shouldn't change it. Stick to you guns ! ! !

What has surprised me more than the influx WCs is the amount of tokens that have played so early doors in the my mini league of 60. ! ! !

Very rarely do players instantly carry over last seasons form straight away into this season. My team was guilty of relying on players that were proven last year overlooking Man City assets who underperormed last season. I haven't kept too many of the players I had initially but there's no doubt that the likes of Hazard will appear in my team again once he hits form.

I did play wildcard. Rooney Kane Wilson front three had to change. Plus Hazard Sterling Walcott Ritchie doing nothing so far and defence gave me 10 points in 2 GW. Even 2 FT cannot fix this.

Having a reasonable start to the season. Managed to keep falls to a minimum by taking a hit this week.

Will wildcard as planned in one of the international breaks taking the volatility of the price change market into account i.e. if I think there is value to be made from players I don't own (and want) having amazing GW's prior to the break.

If I am happy with my team I will hold my wildcard as long as possible toward Christmas.

I'd advise that Romero could be displaced by De Gea or a new signing.

Gomez/Oxford/Kolarov is asking for trouble. Choose nailed on players to go with Kolarov.

Midfield looks excellent, though one could be downgraded to fund the defensive change I mentioned above.

Benteke fixtures change and he doesn't look that great. I'd consider losing him.

No but the quality of opposition does have to be taken into account. I really don't think they looked like a premier league team but maybe they just had an off day away from home in a different country. They could be totally different at home tbf

Cools made one mistake after the other, he isn't first team material, and certainly not any PL team material. The point here is that he will face better or more experienced defenders in the Premier League than against Brugge. I wouldn't rate Brugge higher than any Premier League club atm

Not at all. I think Club Brugge may be at a similar level to the top Eredivisie sides, but there is no way he will replicate his goal frequency from the Dutch league in the EPL. In my opinion.

what might be more relevant is that the PL is different to other leagues in terms of space and pace of the matches. He has had similar spacial opportunities to last night in the PL but has been closed down with more success. He will score goals though, and it's ridiculous to suggest otherwise. It's just that with Utd's tactics, i'm not sure whether he will score that much

He was very unlucky v villa with the shot that flashed just wide. If he had scored that and got 10 points you would not be saying he hasn't shown much so far. I think he is still settling in and if he can get more game time on the left fwd position he will be very good value long term although I'd be sceptical in the short term.

I would agree with you re the composure but I think it is a bit harsh to criticise the technique and the positional nous (anytime I had seen him previously he did have a penchant for the offside flag though). Once the fixt ease I think he could quite easily prove to be a utd theo walcott except nailed to start.

He really reminds me of a not quite as quick theo but with better long shots, free kicks and a better passer/crosser. WIth utd's horror run for the 7 weeks after NEW I won't be going near though so we should have plenty of time to asses before we get him in (and hopefully he will be down to a nice price by then too 😉 )

Depay scores 2 playing against a Belgium side that failed at the same point in a lesser competition last year (3rd qualifying round of Europa League) and he's suddenly in a lot of teams.

I just don't see it, last night he was playing against a European team who's style he is used to from his time in Holland where he had a lot more time and space on the ball.

People may point me to that post about the amount of shots he's had so far, doesn't give the full picture imo. Can have shots from anywhere and in a league where you won't be given as much time and space I wonder how many of those shots we're actually realistic opportunities.

Not worth the risk at the moment, he hasn't shown he can do it in a faster paced league so far, until he does I'm staying well clear.

I've watched the games willing Rooney to score and at least get in the box (being in my team) and realised that it is really Depay/Mata who get in the box. Rooney drops of and allows the space for them to run into.

With Depay on free kicks as well, i can see why people consider him, but i can understand you're gut feeling as adjusting to the league can be difficult. It can also help having scored your first goal...

Brugge were beaten in the QFs of the EL by the eventual finalists. They're a better team than many in the PL

Disagree with this. He's looked dangerous and the shots were genuine opportunities. Especially against Villa. I'm convinced he'll be an undroppable fantasy asset within a couple of weeks.

For those getting a semi-on about Depay's performance last night in the CL play-off round, remember that Peter Crouch scored a hat-trick in the 2010/11 CL play-offs against a team of a similar standard to Brugge (Young Boys), and then proceeded to score 4 PL goals all season.....

Not saying Depay will flop, but just saying that one swallow doesn't necessarily make a summer when it comes to CL play off matches......

Initially I would have said Darmian but slowly but surely I'm edging to Shaw (price aside)
Darmian likes a yellow but looks so dangerous, Shaw seems to be fit and finding firm he has a sweet left foot and look like he's nailed that spot.

I have Darmian but I'd not be looking at any other utd players (really want Depay) until after that fixt run. I think utd will still keep cs in that run as they will have to to get any points.

Do you think Fellaini will be first choice no10 for utd when his ban is over? I could see him getting it, LVG has no shame.

              For me I must pick 2 from Darmian/Arse def/Che def/Swansea def
Not convinced by any really, struggling to call it.
On Fellani he's certainly an option he totally changed uniteds style of play/dynamic when he came on, I enjoy him tho he's not the tippy teapot footballer some fans may want, you always feel he can score.
Lvg seems to be trying to give Januzi a chance but that could be for the shop window too, Pedro (prob) coming will muddy the waters too,
I think Rooney will come good in time just seems so rusty now-he's got what he wants so hopefully he can deliver the required goals, tho I feel he may fall short.
Chico is interesting he knows club would have sold him for right offer but right now they need him so much, he always looks lively/spritly but again lacks the goals conversion we need.
To finish Depay looks like uniteds best prospect and is the key right now to a successful season, I've a feeling he could end up in most Fpl teams at some point.

                Great summation.

It looks like Pedro is signing for Chelsea now (apparently having a medical there today).

Unless utd sign a 10 or a wide right player which may let Mata play there (although I don't think LVG is convinced by Mata at 10) I can see Fellaini getting a lot of game time if not being pretty much nailed. If he is he could be a bargain as he is pretty fixture proof.

I agree re Depay, I think he needs a big season for utd to be successful and that he will end up in most fpl teams at some point.

Ah dam just picking up the Pedro news now, how has he slipped through uniteds net?
Did they not push it? Did the player not want to sign or what?
Annoyed again by uniteds business acumen, I'm not saying he's the answer to our prayers but we definatly needed something extra up top to fight the season on all 3 fronts.
I really don't think they have anything up their sleeve, and JM will destroy Pedro anyways!

Yeah I agree on all accounts, I don't know how he is not at Utd as he seems a perfect fit.

There is something not right at Utd and they need to sort it out asap or they may be in danger of going the way of Liverpool since the 90's.

Agree they can't seem to get a grip on the transfers game, they can sell man Utd cups on the moon but trying to land a player/sell a player - I mean what are they doing with Ddg?
Sell him or play him, it's crazy they could lose a player they paid around 18m for in his prime that they invested in heavily financially and from a coaching PoV for zilch, I could add ADM/Muller/Ramos etc but some of Uniteds business side of things needs sorting out or they will fail to attract the top players.

                        Fully agree.

There is something seriously wrong when the likes of ADM, RVP, Falcao, DDG all either don't fire or want to leave.

Either LVG doesn't know what he is doing bringing in some of these players in the first place or someone else is bringing them in for him (which I don't think could be the case). Either way one of his main attributes that made him better than Moyes was supposedly his ability to handle big name players and so far I can't see that he has done that at any level. Big big season for LVG and Utd imo and losing out on public transfer targets does not inspire confidence.

I'll still have Depay in my team at some point and will probably hold onto Darmian for a good while.

                        Sanchez/Silva/Payet/Maharez/Westwood
                        Aguero/Gomis/??(Sahko now nw Diouf)
I'm also considering Lukaku and going with someone like Huth instead of a 6-Def, I've a feeling this may be his breakout year and on pens too,

Please rate my drunken transfer after watching Utd-Villa in an Irish bar on Friday:
    Young > Januzaj
    Cedric > Shaw

I'm praying that Friday games never become a regular thing. If they do, FPL needs to introduce a reverse transfer option in the interests of fairness to idiots and drunks.

Shaw a good move, Januzaj rotation risk especially ahead of Pedro possible signing.

I hoping LVG doesn't change the starting XI for Saturday game as a United fan other than possibly Schweinstiger in for Carrick if fit enough to start now.

Massive rotation risk. Infact I'd be shocked if he starts after his performance last night. The ultimate punishment for this transfer would be Young back in for a 10 pointer, Adnan 1 point off the bench.

Oh well I won my private league to easily last year so I deserve to start with a handicap this time round :-p

He's getting shots off, should have scored against Villa & should have had a hat trick last night.

I watched him a fair bit last season as a United fan expecting him to join us, he's starting to get into similar goal scoring positions he did last season. He's well worth a punt but not essential.....yet.

this ^^. Everyone panicking like mad about drops this week have underestimated the amount of wc's that have been played I reckon.

Also people expecting multiple double rises will be very disappointed too imo as due to the number of wcs in play there are less normal transfers which are the only ones that count towards rises and falls afaik.

Apart fron the fact that people who haven't wildcarded will have more info to work with, won't they also experience the same when they wildcard during the coming international breaks, r.e. the price changes?

My main reason for wildcarding was to protect my underperforming players(there were 4 or 5) from dropping, and build a squad around Aguero, who i didn't start with.

Yes and no Demi. The next time the wcs are played there will be less played so more non wc transfers so you could have more double risers (say if kone or wilson gets a hatty etc) that you can ride for a 0.1 and then dump prior to deadline.

I think you're fear of players dropping may have been somewhat exacerbated by the price change websites which are skewed due to the abnormal amount of wc activity.

I just used my two ft's to get in Kun and while I have a few that look like they may be dropping I think I'll take the hit on the odd one or two as when I do get to play the wc their will be plenty of more value out there where all the players that are dropping each week may actually be about to hit good fixtures or may have got back in their teams. There are a lot more dropping than rising so there should be plenty of value to take advantage of especially at the lower range where you wouldn't likely waste transfers in normal weeks.

Ps I also think the main reason I would play a wc is to fix my defense but I really don't know enough to predict who will be tight at the back after two gws so that is one of my the main reasons for not playing it. That and the fact that there will be circa 300mm worth of transfers between now and deadline which will shake things up massively and may make some of the transfers made now look really bad.

Fair enough Dino. Those are all really good points, and have made me think twice and now i'm a bit apprehensive about what's to come in the next 5-6 gameweeks. There are likely to be more double risers later on then? I can see why that would happen now, but still feel the points i can get from my new team over the people who had the pre-gw1 template will negate the advantage later wildcarders will undoubtedly have. Not fully, but some of the advantage.

Like you say, my defence needed action. It's right that i got rid of them i think, and i can look at better defences or ones that aren't dropping. The ones that have failed e.g. sunderland, swansea will be easy to pick up again when they get their act together as they are going to be cheap.

The main thing i've gleaned from your post is the advantage of later wildcarders having lots of droppers to look at and possibly get at cheaper prices. Didn't really think of that, although i can somewhat counter that with a hit here and there, so i think i'll be okay.

I think most people reckon the effect of the remainder of the transfer deadline will be pretty minimal, bar the likes of Everton who need to business, and City who are getting Otamendi and possibly KDB. A lot of sides seem to have got a lot of their new players in early already.

For me, I've played my wildcard because I feel that my previous team was falling by the wayside. If I can get a 20/30pts injection into my score from wildcarding this week then I'll be happy

Yep same here, plus i didn't want the likes of Aguero, Sanchez and Mahrez to be out of reach too soon, although overestimated the the price changes as said above.

Think we'll only know whether it's been a success or not from gw 10 onwards, so plenty of time to gain a lead over non-widlcarders for now.

Fair enough Dre but I really do think that the quick boost of 20/30 points could be lost over time as we realise who the best budget defences are for rotation etc as these are transfers that you won't be doing during normal course of the season. Also as per below I'd be fearful of the effect new additions will have on those you drafted in.

E.g. Wba have been linked with a new gk all summer so that would tell me that Myhil place may be in Jeopardy, also I really cannot see Liverpool going into the season with just Gomez as a lb. I am sure there are many more examples of budget players that we like that may either drop out due to transfers in/out or have their role changed so that it means lesser out put (or greater). We really don't want to be wasting transfers on budget players so your 20-30pts could be eaten up while you sit and watch those playing wc's set their teams up with all the information in place.

I'd agree with almost all of that Demi and I don't think playing the wc now will be catastrophic but maybe just marginally better results with later wc.

Re transfer business, last year the record was smashed and set at 850m+ and this year with the new tv deal coming into effect I expect that record to be surpassed again and we are only at high 500m's at the moment. I don't know where the transfers are coming from or going to but I expect big business before the end and it may be at the lesser clubs where you have bough budget defenders etc (can't see liverpool going the season with gomez as first choice lb for example).

Out of interest what have you gone with for your backline now?

Good point about the new TV deal dino. I was looking at Gomez in my current team, as i can't bear the thought of him continuing to start, and rising in price while i keep thinking he'll be dropped each week. Sort of like Kane last year, but substituting him dropping for stopping scoring goals.

Believe it or not, i've currently got Kolarov. Happy to have him, knowing he will miss out on a few games, and hope the rest of my defence and protect and cover. If i got Kompany, i wouldn't have enough to improve on my mid and attack, which is where the main focus for points should be.

The rest i'm not sure yet. Will need to work out how much money i've got to play with, when i stop playing the risers. I'm looking at Darmain(has he impressed you btw?), Huth, a Bournemouth defender and someone from the likes of West Brom or Swansea

Yeah Darmian looks a proper defender a bit like Azpi and I expect him to continue to hoover up bonus points in cs.

If I was going with a wc def currently I think it would have Darmian, Azpi, Francis (best 4.5m def imo), Williams, Dawson.

^^ See I did contemplate a wc due to the poor start but after going through the thought process above I decided against it for now.

I'd probably have Myhil and Boruc in Goal with a view to dropping one of them once I had a lead on if Myhil will stay in the team or not. I really think rotating gk's might bite hard this season as when you look at Adrian and Myhil 11 and 10 pt returns they were in games where you would probably have them benched. The 3 bonus points for the unlikely cs means I don't think it is practical or worth it points wise to rotate gk's. Three of those hauls would add about 0.75ppg to a gk for the whole season.

    To summerise:

"Importantly, it doesn't seem like there will be any blank weeks immediately before a DGW, but there will be potential blanks the week after DGWs, so if you are planning to WC to utilise a DGW, your best bet is going to be to WC GW36, then you will have the DGW week 37 (to use bench boost chip), and then only DGW38 to negotiate (which tends to be a lottery anyway), while Triple Captain chip can either be used GW34, or for a League Cup finalist DGW pre-GW27........"

The All Out Attack, Bench Boost and Triple Captain chips can each be used once a season and are played when saving your team on the my team page. They can be cancelled at anytime before the Gameweek deadline.

Surely with so many playing a WC, the price rises will be largely invalid? Or more vague to predict?

Cuadrado has turned out to be something of a disaster. How well do you think Pedro will do at Chelsea?

In general players from the Italian league struggle in the premiership; Veron, Forlan, Lamela etc.

Spanish players tend not to have issues to quite the same extent.
