Daniel Sturridge misses Liverpool’s trip to Tottenham with a minor knee knock. Southampton and Bournemouth have concerns over their first-choice keepers, whilst Samir Nasri’s hamstring problem adds to City’s injury list…

Arsenal
Gabriel and David Ospina both missed Arsenal’s trip to Watford due to illness and a shoulder problem respectively.

Earlier today, Arsene Wenger has confirmed the defender is available for their midweek Champions League showdown with Bayern, though Ospina has been ruled out again.

Bournemouth
Artur Boruc is scheduled for a scan after sustaining a thigh injury during the warm-up at Manchester City. Cherries boss Eddie Howe also revealed that Marc Pugh could only make the bench due to injury:

“Artur will have a scan and we’ll wait to see the extent of it. We hope, because he was pulled out before the game, that it is not serious damage but we’ll wait until the results. He has been away with Poland so we haven’t seen a great deal of him over the past two weeks and for him to pick up that injury in the warm-up, it’s another one we couldn’t really control but we’ll hopefully get him back into action very quickly…In terms of Marc Pugh missing out, he hadn’t trained in the international break because of a rib injury. In a sense, my team selection was forced upon me.”

Chelsea
Pedro and Loic Remy have both been ruled out of Chelsea’s Champions League clash with Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday evening due to minor injuries. Earlier today, Jose Mourinho went on to say:

“We have other options and it would be big risk to play them.”

Leicester City
Claudio Ranieri expects Leonardo Ulloa to be fit for next Gameweek after missing Leicester’s trip to Southampton with a minor thigh problem.

Liverpool
Daniel Sturridge was sidelined for Liverpool’s trip to Tottenham after picking up a minor injury in training. Jurgen Klopp shed further light on Sturridge’s absence in his post-match presser, saying that he suffered nothing more serious than swelling in his knee. The Reds’ newly installed boss is hopeful that the ex-Chelsea forward will be available for selection when the Merseysiders host Rubin Kazan on Thursday, whilst Christian Benteke is also expected to return:

“We had a bad week with injuries. The best news is it’s not a serious thing with Daniel. But in a week like this with two ACL, we could not risk it. Daniel had a one-on-one situation with Jordon Ibe in training; I didn’t see it but after he said he had a little pain in a muscle. We made a diagnosis and screened him to be sure – we can see a little bit of swelling but nothing really serious. So we have to see. I hope he’s ready to play on Thursday…Danny Ings needs time, obviously, but Benteke could be back for Kazan or Southampton.”

Manchester City
Having entered the fray at the 62-minute mark against Bournemouth, Samir Nasri was forced to play through a hamstring problem at the Etihad in light of Man City using their full complement of substitutes. Manuel Pellegrini admitted that the French playmaker is now a serious doubt for the Sky Blues’ home tie against Sevilla on Wednesday:

“Nasri had a problem with his hamstring. I don’t know because I didn’t talk with the doctor yet but I think it will be very difficult for him [to play on Wednesday]. Unfortunately we knew that he was feeling something after we made the third change, so if not maybe I can change him before. He didn’t run too much, he stayed in the middle, so we’ll see in the next day what happens with him.”

Yaya Toure was passed fit for the Cherries’ visit but was hauled off at the break. Pellegrini explained that he didn’t want to risk affording the Ivorian midfielder further minutes given his recent niggling injuries and inactivity over the international break:

“It was not thinking about Sevilla, it was thinking about Yaya. He just played 45 minutes in the Champions League before he got in an injury. In the first ten days of the international break he did nothing so I thought 45 minutes was enough. It was not an important injury but one which prevented him from playing games.”

Southampton
Maarten Stekelenburg picked up a back injury during Saints’ Friday’s training session, paving the way for Kelvin Davis to earn his first league start of the campaign. Ronald Koeman revealed “we will have to wait a couple of days” before knowing whether his first-choice stopper will be available for the weekend trip to Liverpool.

Sunderland
Duncan Watmore sat out Sunderland’s road tie against West Bromwich Albion with a minor hamstring complaint. Jack Rodwell is also a major concern ahead of the Tyne-Wear derby as he struggles to shake off a persistent ankle knock.

Tottenham Hotspur
Nacer Chadli was withdrawn after 11 minutes of Spurs’ home tie against Liverpool after damaging his ankle. After the match, Mauricio Pochettino suggested that the Belgian winger might’ve suffered an ankle ligament injury:

“We need to assess tomorrow and after tomorrow we will know more. Maybe it’s a problem in his ankle ligaments but we hope it is not a big, big issue. After the game it was painful and in the next 24 or 48 hours we will be able to see better how the injury is.”

How do you think Southampton's attack will fare against a high work-rate Klopperpool?

Spurs should have scored at least twice but I expect Liverpool to improve this weekend after training with Klopp for a whole week

I was just talking about this for some of the articles this week. I personally think that as his players get used to it their strategy seems to be to knacker themselves and the opposition out. This could mean like with Spurs lots of 0-0 unless they can use that to their advantage first half. I'm also not sure how Sturridge or Benteke will be able to handle the pace.

I think it elevates their defenders against tough sides, and has the potential to elevate their attackers against the minnows.

Massively off topic, but just wondering if anyone has been in the position before where you join a new company, get some training under your belt, and then proceed to not be given any work to do for the next 2 weeks..?

Well, for a new start, i would expect internet usage to be monitored so i would be careful if you are on here.

Nothing wrong with saying to your boss you are a bit light on work and is there anything he needs help with/stuff you can prepare for in the future? No way they would have hired you if there was no work to do.

well if you are QA, i get the impression that when a new system comes in you will be under pressure to meet the deadlines so there will be a big variability in work and it eases off in between.

It might pay you to be proactive on this. Not all managers are very good at dishing out work to new people so you might have to go after it yourself.

They hired him for work he thought would develop his IT skills and career

But after orientation they gave him little work and what they did give him was below his skill level

He fought to terminate the contract because he was concerned about his skills atrophying and not being able to continue in his career beyond Nike if he didn't leave ASAP

In light of the news regarding Pedro being confirmed out of the Kiev game, it looks to me that Hazard will be restored to the start line up.

I'd also predict that Oscar returns to the starting line up after presumably being rested after playing 2 x International games in South America, coming in for Loftus-Cheek who failed to impress Mourinho at the weekend, being taken off at HT.

Prediciton: Hazard, with a point to prove, to run riot in Kiev and be restored to Chelsea starting XI for the weekend. Mourinho master plan executed.

Are your numbers weighted for the difficulty of the fixtures already played? As in do Newcastle get credit for having had a very difficult start to the season, fixtures-wise?

Constantly. For instance, the ratings for last week were from 8 matchest this Season, roughly 30 from last Season.

Credit, no. But the results are factored in. Credit involves opinion, which I have tried to exclude ...

I'd have thought there's a way to feed in the ratings of the fixtures in which results were achieved when calculating the new ratings. I.e. getting thumped 6-1 when the fixture rating was -472 has less of a negative impact than losing 1-0 when the fixture rating was 398 (if you get my meaning).

Might be tricky to achieve and would add a whole new layer of complexity but it would address 1966's point without introducing an extra element of human intervention.

I don't know. Original plan was Alli -> Cabaye, and I'd need Aguero to drop a bit further to afford him back if I go for Wij instead.

But he has the fixtures and apparently a good goalscoring record. Seems to be adjusting to the prem well so signs are good...and Cabaye's pens may dry up.

I know. I've argued with a few people over it. One guy saying, stats, form and fixtures don't look good, he's on the slide. Someone suggested he has still scoring EVERY week, and said, "Yes, points-wise, but have you seen his stats". WTF? The main stat is how many points he keeps scoring!!

And you're spot on. He's pretty much fixture-proof, and everything goes through him. He's looking like a season keeper to me.

I'm sure you all know about the Bet365 £50 promos they do every now and then, so I won't bother explaining.

Question is, in the Arsenal v Bayern match what would you bet on in play with your free £50 bet?

-has to be in play. But can be used anytime during the game.

    with regards to http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2015/10/18/scout-notes-gameweek-9-saturday-4/?hc_page=12#hc_comment_11575562

    1) kick off, 00:01 to 01:00 = 1 min (current fpl rule)
if player got injured after 10 seconds, player gets 1 min (00:10)
    sub gets 90 mins (00:11 to 90:00)

    2) injury time(91 min) sub
player gets 90 mins, sub gets 1 min

    3) 59:30 min sub
player gets 60 mins, sub gets 31 mins

thus player + sub minutes should be equal to 91 mins
FPL should reconsider this, +1 if you agree

      Incorrect.

      0 - 57.59 gets rounded up.
      58.01 - 59.59 = 59

Sub would get 89 in 1)
Sub needs to get 1 minute in 2) so correct.

          • 12 Years

if (2) is correct, then player + sub should always be 91 min

          if 00.01 to 01.00 = 1 min, then 01.01 to 02.00 = 2 min
          89.01 to final whistle = 90 min

this will make it more consistent and fair
they should reconsider this and change the rules next season

2 is correct because the sub needs to register a minute for an appearance point.
This only happens to subs after normal time in the 2nd half.

89.01 - 89.59 can either be 89 or 90, it really isn't important for FPL but 89 is more correct in my eyes.

its not important but the game should be as fair and as consistent as possible

the same rule should apply under ALL circumstances and condition

its unfair to change now, but hope they will consider for next season

The game says a CS is 60 full minutes, no round up rubbish.

          my guess for current arrangement

          00.01 to 01.59 = 1 min
          02.00 to 02.59 = 2 min
          89.00 to 89.59 = 89 min

          2 inconsistent factor
          1) 00.01 to 01.59 = 1 min
          2) sub during injury time?

            1.01 - 1.59 is 2 minutes for FPL.
Only the numbers of 60 and 90 have any significance in FPL hence they full be completed in full or they get rounded down.

then 59.01 - 59.59 should be 60 minutes for FPL

Lets face it, the only minutes that matter are 1 and 60.

As long as any moment on the pitch is counted as at least 1 minute and anything above 59:59 is counted as at least 60 minutes then the system works.

But a change isn't required - the system works as it is.

To qualify for an appearance point you only need to be on the pitch a second, therefore 0:01 is rounded up to 1 minute.

To qualify for a clean sheet you need to be on the pitch a minimum of 60 minutes, therefore 59:59 is rounded down to 59 minutes.

I'm not trying to be a pain, I genuinely don't see the issue - the calculations match the rule set.

I do but only 1, 60 and 90 to a lesser point count.
The rule says 60 full minutes needed for a CS and 2 appearance points.

if you do understand my point

then special condition should not be applied to 1, 60 and 90 min

                  every min should be equal

                  be it 1 min, 2 min, 3 min, 60 min, 61 min, 89 min, 90 min

Rounding down is perfect except for 0.01 to 0.59.
                    That's the main issue.
That's why they put FULL in the rules regarding time.

but you dont see mine, as in you feel its redundant

I guess my problem with your proposal is that it constitutes an actual rule change. Under your system the wording of the rules would have to say that in order to record a clean sheet a player must be on the pitch at least 59 minutes (at which point people would complain when someone was subbed off at 58:42)

there is no need to change the rules

                kick off to 01:00 = 1 min
                58:01 to 59:00 = 59 mins
                59:01 to 60:00 = 60 mins
                89:01 to final whistle = 90 mins

But that isn't what the rules say!

"For playing up to 60 minutes: 1"
"For playing 60 minutes or more: 2"
"A clean sheet is awarded for not conceding a goal whilst on the pitch and playing at least 60 minutes."

Your suggestion directly contradicts the "playing 60 minutes or more" and "playing at least 60 minutes" statements.

It's not that I don't get what you're saying, I just fundamentally disagree with it.

As per the wording of the rules above:

                      0:00 minutes played = 0 points
                      0:01-59:59 minutes played = 1 appearance point
60:00+ minutes played = 2 appearance points and qualification for a clean sheet

The current system awards points in exactly this manner. There's no disparity between the rules and the points awarded.

Your system would see a player playing 59:01 minutes get 2 appearance points and a clean sheet despite not "playing at least 60 minutes". There would be consistency in terms of rounding but a massive problem in terms of awarding points - is that really an improvement?

Fuzzy's beef wasn't with the lack of Cedric CS, though - it was more with the Yoshida award of 31 mins. it would have had more impact if Player 1 goes after after 30 mins 59 secs and replaced by Player 2, for example. In this case player 1 gets credited with 30 mins, Player 2 with 60. Player 2 gets 2 appearance points despite only appearing for just over 59 mins.

That's not even true. 31 and 59 would be the numbers.

It is true. The Cedric sub was at 59.48 - Cedric was credited 59 mins, Yoshida 31. Yoshida was rounded up.

They can only share 90 minutes so common sense prevails. Subs after normal time share 91 mins.

I'm not arguing with Fuzzy - this seems to be a different kettle of fish 🙂

Although I'd be interested to see an actual example of the 30/60 rather than 60/30 in practice - I suspect they may cater for that situation to ensure the rules are adhered to.

Yes, but that wouldn't happen. In that case the sub is the player approaching the significant 60 minute boundary, so his minutes would be rounded down and he would not be credited with a clean-sheet; so there's no discrepancy.

It is consistent though - they always round down at the significant boundary, 60 minutes.

And the arrow of time doesn't matter - if a player goes off on ~30 minutes and the sub comes on for ~60, then it comes down to whether or not the player at the 60 minute boundary actually crossed it or not. If he has 60.00+ minutes he gets the cleansheet.

"The mutual dislike is genuine and was illustrated perfectly when Wenger and Mourinho were due to sit next to each other at an elite coaching seminar in Nyon last year only for one of them to switch the table settings.

‘Whenever Wenger spoke, Mourinho just stared out of the window,’ said a source."

I wonder which one did it....

Either way, Mourinho is classless and Wenger exudes it. It's no surprise they act like chalk and cheese

Is anyone considering Rooney for the next 6 ?

Manchester United's fixture for the next 6 is (MCI-cpl-WBA-wat-lei-WHM), must admit it looks nice.

For me it's between Mata and Rooney for me. While Mata would be an attractive choice for many (including me) who are looking to upgrade their cheap 5th mid, but he got subbed at half time yesterday is putting me off.

But then there is Rooney, played as the lone striker yesterday like good old times, scored and more importantly looked good.

better midfielders out there than mata, between the two its got to be Rooney

He has nil pace. Had a one-on-one and was caught by Jagielka who isn't the fastest CB in the world - ended up fluffing the finish.

Who would you bench out of Pelle (liv), Lukaku (ars), Yaya (mun), Ayew (avl), Mahrez (CPL)? AoA already played last week.

I'm on Pelle at the minute.
