634x258 Suspensions

There were 30 yellow cards flashed across the weekend’s nine fixtures but not one resulted in a suspension. With five new faces clambering aboard over Saturday and Sunday, the Tightrope now has 21 players sitting just one booking shy of a single-match ban as the busy festive period kicks in.

Chelsea’s Diego Costa, Newcastle midfielder Vurnon Anita, Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse and West Brom midfield duo Craig Gardner and James McClean were the latest additions, with the latter escaping with just a yellow for a reckless high challenge on Tottenham’s Mousa Dembele.

Discussing the incident with the press post-match, Baggies boss Tony Pulis hinted that the winger was somewhat fortunate not to be sent packing:

“It was a reckless challenge. He shouldn’t be doing things like that, it’s not allowed in the modern game and he’s got to be careful. He just sees the ball, he is one of those people that if the ball was in front of a brick wall he would throw himself in to try and win the challenge. He’s not a nasty guy, there’s none of that about him, but he has to be careful”.

As a result of the weekend activity, seven sides – Bournemouth, Newcastle, Southampton, Stoke, Spurs, Watford and West Brom – now have a couple of players apiece with four cautions to their names.

Our Tightrope protagonists still sit some way behind Norwich’s Alex Tettey, though, who leads the way on seven bookings for the season after incurring the referee’s wrath during the 2-0 loss at Watford.

Just behind Tettey, there are now four players on six yellow cards. Stoke’s Erik Pieters, Liverpool duo James Milner and Lucas and Newcastle’s Jack Colback are the men concerned, with the latter two picking up cautions this weekend.

Lucas’ yellow card means that Liverpool have now earned 33 cautions in the Premier League alone – that’s on a par with West Brom and just two behind Tottenham in top spot.

Finally, four players will be available for action this weekend after serving one-match bans. Liverpool’s Emre Can, Villa’s Ciaran Clark, West Brom’s Claudio Yacob and Palace’s Wilfried Zaha toppled off last week’s Tightrope, with Can earning his fifth yellow in the midweek cup win at Southampton. Zaha, of course, will serve his ban tomorrow night as the Eagles roll up to Everton.

This means that, at present, there are no players set to serve suspensions in Gameweek 16. Palace’s Yohan Cabaye and Everton’s James McCarthy could yet succumb to the lure of the Tightrope, though – they head into tomorrow’s match at Goodison on four bookings apiece.

Finally, reports this evening suggest that United’s Bastian Schweinsteiger could face retrospective action for an alleged elbowing incident involving West Ham’s Winston Reid at Old Trafford yesterday. It’s believed that referee Mark Clattenburg and his assistants missed the altercation, with the FA set to contact the whistler before making a decision. Marouane Fellaini is likely to escape punishment for an alleged stamp on James Tomkins during the goalless draw.

It's that stage on a Sunday night when I'm still hungover from last night but the fear is kicking in that I have to go back to work after a week off.

Lukaku plays his 100th game for Everton tonight. If he scores he'll have 50 goals for them.

    Morning DZ.

Posted these whilst the matches were on, but I'll do so again as many probably missed it.

I have created some charts displaying every players effective ownership across each GW this season.

The first is a simple table, where you can easily see who had he highest EO in each GW, sorting the columns into ascending or descending order.

The second is a bar chart, showing the EO for every player in the game across each GW.

I would advise using the search filter to only select players you are interested in comparing, since every player in the game is included otherwise.

A link to my full detailed post on EO can be found here:
    http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/11965699

Likewise, my post on this week's EO can be found here:

I suppose, but only really makes a difference if you're close to the top 10k.

It's tough to get your head around this 'I don't want my player to score well' lark.

Having such a shite season I'm considering just taking as many hits as I need and trying to see how close I can get to the highest weekly score (which bizarrely doesn't include hits) Got to be more fun than this.

As I said earlier I'm giving up FPL to concentrate on UFPL next season anyway so what the hell 🙂

Much prefer it (probably because I'm better at it and already won £1k this season) 🙂

I just hate the conflict of interest having a player in one game and not the other.

Don't give up on FPL. Take up my offer I make every summer to folk of playing a league with a hit a week every week..no more and no less.

It takes away all the frustration of the game by ignoring OR...it becomes a not issue by effectively shooting yourself in the foot from day one.

Classic league or just H2H...you decide.

I find FPL frustrating which is why I never bother with OR and never will. Just play against my lads and brother.

Yeah, have a WC as well. It's the best way to play for those who like changing their teams a lot....

That OR lark takes a lot of fun out of this game when it starts to go badly.

I just play fpl for the cash leagues. Or means little. Plus having a bad memory means passwords get forgot or emails forgot so I end up never looking like I've played more than a season or 2. Which means a good or is always lost to history.

        Hi

Can someone please explain me to how the double game-week (DGW) works and when they are this season?

Also is it worth waiting to use the bench boost chip for during that period or not?

        Thanks

Some teams will have 2 games in a DGW so your players can get 180 mins worth of points.
If you plan well and your single game players do well, bench boost can be great.

            Ok, thanks.

Does every team play a DGW?

            AND

Do you also know what weeks this will occur?

You never know until they announce it on FPL and then it gets written up here within a few minutes. They usually occur when teams have double-ups with fixtures occurring due to FA Cup ties, or occassionally inclement weather. You usually get one or two around Round 30-32 and maybe another towards the end of the season, but it's impossible to forecast!

                Thanks for that!

Would you recommend waiting to use the bench boost then or use it this week (As I believe I have a great bench for this week)?

Have you already used your bench boost or are you waiting until the DGW's?

                Thanks

I'd be hanging onto it for sure. If you get 3-4 weeks notice about DGWs you can slowly load up and have an amazing bench, even a few DGW players included, and make up massive ground. I'd be hanging onto that chip for a DGW for sure. Even if your bench is great this week!

                    Thanks for the help!

However, are these DGW's certainly going to happen or is it based of chance?

As in will there for sure be a DGW or if the PL teams get eliminated from the C1C and FA cup will the EPL fixtures just run as normal without the DGW?

No, teams that do well in the FA Cup and C1C have to play those games over their BPL games meaning these games get moved. GW 27, 30, 34 and 37 are the weeks DGWs could happen from memory.

                          With Howard vs Norwhich

                          Dawson vs Liverpool

                          Silva vs swansea

                          Ayew vs city

Worth the bench boost? (I reckon WBA will clean sheet to Liv, and EVE clean sheet to Nor and Silva to be involved vs a poor swansea)

Trying to preempt their slowdown would be foolhardy FPL wise

personally I don't think they have a chance. The next few games will be key to see how the rest of the season is going to go though

Unless they get plagued by injuries, why not? They don't have any other competitions to worry about. I think it's amazing what they have achieved in such a short space of time. You wouldn't have touched any of their players last season until the last few weeks. Since then they've been amazing. I really hope they continue going as they are.

Is this worth a bench boost?

        Bench: DDG/Smalling/Özil/Lukaku?

          Considering you're starting Fabianski(mci), Monreal(avl), Ayew(mci), Darmian(bou) in their stead, no

What's your squad to have this bench ?

Should I play Ayew over the likes of KDB, Barkley, Özil or Mahrez?

Or even for Ighalo, Lukaku or Vardy?

Let's have a small non-football debate...Heathrow or Gatwick for expansion, and why?

I'm firmly in the Heathrow camp, think it'll be better to maintain one main airport hub instead of two, although Gatwick would be much cheaper...

Neither. We need to be flying less, not more.

Ideologistic idea, if we want to continue growing as a country and maintain a strong economy. That means more flying, for shipping alongside business. Not feasible without.

I've got 5000 words on this. Heathrow because it just makes more sense to have one hub airport.

It's a little dated (Dec 2012) but the core arguments stay the same, but with Crossrail and HS2 adding even further weight to the hub argument. Against it I think the plans for runway 3 are a longer runway (4km vs 2.5km) now and some rerouting/tunnelling required for the M25 but I think its still the best option.

Gatwick because there's a lot more room for growth there.

Agreed there is much more room, but two major airport hubs would become confusing. Airlines wouldn't like it much either, having to separate more planes between the two.

Airlines would more likely consolidate at one airport each, probably with the premium long haulers basing at Heathrow with their better connectivity and established market presence while smaller/budget airlines will try to make a big thing over Gatwick. Crossrail/HS2 connectivity and BA's huge presence there will add to the cache and Heathrow would stay more expensive in terms of take off slot prices which'll be passed on to the long haulers as they already are to a fair extent anyway.
