Arsenal will be looking for revenge this evening as they host a Southampton side that put four goals past them at St Mary’s on Boxing Day. City and Tottenham both face away trips to bottom-four sides Sunderland and Norwich – encouragingly, they defeated their respective opponents by three-goal margins in the reverse fixtures earlier this season. Table-toppers Leicester’s match with Liverpool should also be a compelling clash – the Reds were victorious in their last encounter but the Foxes have built up some resilience in recent weeks.

Wednesday’s pair of matches finishes off the Gameweek. Everton will be expecting another victory over Newcastle, given that the Toffees have prevailed in five of their last six league matches. Meanwhile, Chelsea will travel to Watford having scored five goals in the FA Cup at the weekend – the Blues are unbeaten in seven while the Hornets picked up back-to-back wins by dispatching Nottingham Forest to join the Fifth Round pot.

If you are unfamiliar with FantasyBet it is particularly accessible for those who play Fantasy Premier League, as it uses a similar scoring and pricing system.

Check out this video to see how team creation works.

MY TEAM

Kasper Schmeichel (4.5m)
Cameron Borthwick-Jackson (4m)
Aaron Creswell (5.5m)
Laurent Koscielny (6m)
Dele Alli (5m)
Michail Antonio (5m)
David Silva (10m)
Alexis Sanchez (11m)
Romelu Lukaku (9m)
Harry Kane (9.5m)
Sergio Aguero (13m)

KEY PICKS

Kasper Schmeichel: Claudio Ranieri appears to have focused on defensive solidity of late and the Foxes keeper has been crucial to that plan. Schmeichel has registered an average of 3.2 saves per appearance during a five-match run that has seen his side concede just once ahead of this evening’s King Power clash with Liverpool.

Aaron Creswell: Coincidentally, the left-back’s last attacking returns arrived against upcoming opponents Aston Villa on Boxing Day, netting a goal just before the interval in a 1-1 stalemate. Cresswell – who also has three assists and eight bonus points to his name – will be optimistic of defensive points against an attack with just three goals in their last six road trips.

Alexis Sanchez: The Arsenal attacker looks in line for a first league start since Gameweek 14 as Southampton roll up to the Emirates tonight. Sanchez provided an assist and the winning goal in the FA Cup encounter with Burnley and will be a pivotal figure in the Gunners’ push for the title.

Harry Kane: Tottenham’s top scorer arrives at Norwich on the back of successive strikes in the last couple of Gameweeks. Handed a late substitute appearance in the FA Cup win over Colchester, Kane should be fully refreshed to face a Canaries side that he’s also scored twice again this season.

THIS WEEKS GAME PICKS

As always the best place to start if you’re new to FantasyBet are the free-rolls – there is a £50 pot available for this Gameweek in both the standard and flash formats.

There’s a Double-Up game for £3.30 entry with a guaranteed prize pool of £120 and also FantasyBet’s biggest game, the Grand Midweek, where your compete for a £1000 guaranteed prize pool on a £5.50 buy-in. Multiple entries are possible in both and they cover all ten fixtures for this midweek slate.

LAST WEEK

I head into this the midweek matches on the back of some success, after the team from last week’s article delivered a first-placed finish from 247 participants in the Free-roll.

I also earned returns from the double-up and the Scout Picks league, leaving me on £167.57. There was no such luck in the big pot, though – SuperJamesy took the top spot with 93 points, captaining Odion Ighalo for a 24-point haul proved a canny decision.

THIS WEEK’S STAKE

I will enter the Double-Up, the Grand contest, the free-rolls and the FFScout Picks League for the mid-week fixtures for a total outlay of £9.90.

In addition, I’ll be going up against Doosra, the Community champion in this week’s Scout Picks. He will be taking me on in a specially set up head to head game for a chance to win free entry into a £500 Guaranteed ‘Big Weekly’ game worth £22. Also the eligible Community Champion who beats the Scout Picks by the highest margin every month will win a free entry into the £600 guaranteed ‘Boss’ game worth £55.

FFSCOUT PICKS LEAGUE

SuperSaiyyan topped last week’s Scout’s Picks League – Roberto Firmino, Dele Alli, Sergio Aguero and Odion Ighalo all scored 12 points or more to provide a total of 98 points.

Once again, FantasyBet have provided a £100 pot for the FFScout Picks League. I will enter our Scout Picks as closely as possible, given a 15-man squad is required with the 100m budget and a captain also needs to be selected.

Feel free to go up against them this week and pick your own squad on FantasyBet.

    Dirty re-post

What do we think of this plan?

    GW24: Myhill to Hennessey
    GW25: Smalling+Mahrez to Wollscheid+Sanchez
    GW26: No clue
    GW27: Lukaku to Vardy

Gives me the Ozil+Sanchez double up but no Mahrez. With Huth and Schmeichel though that allows me to bring in Vardy in GW27.

Once Mahrez goes though it'll be painful to have to bring him back if needed.

    3. Jay_

This is why I lost Simpson this week, would rather Schmeichel Mahrez Vardy, the double attack is much more important than double defence for that run from 27, maybe hold Mahrez in 25 and shift another mid for Sanchez instead, sell Huth in 26 to make room for Vardy next week

Vardy and Mahrez haven't exactly been setting the FPL world alight recently. Whereas Leicester have been getting clean sheets. Perhaps the points will continue to be in defence?

Play him, if he starts happy days if he doesn't Poch is unlikely to bring him on for a cameo, his FB's usually play 90 mins.

Another question to ask yourself did he start at the weekend? If he did I'd say he's likely to be benched and if not probably gonna start

    Pick 1 to play -

    A) Van Aanholt - Currently the one I have starting. City will score, but I think Sunderland will too. He's been knocking them in lately

    B) Arnautovic - Not sure if he's passed fit, but Stoke have gone downhill a little over the last while and United are okay defensively

    C) Huth - Leicester have tightened up a bit at the back, but Liverpool are just so unpredictable

Arnie for me. Battered United last time, we are not okay defensively.

Huth has a chance with Pool weak on set pieces but I really do not think Arnie is bad enough to be worth playing a defender first.

For what it's worth I'd be playing Huth (and maybe even PVA) over Toby/Moreno if you have them.

I don't think he'll get enough match time. What about one of the new guys - Paloschi, Doumbia or Emenike?

The latter two taken. Not touching Emenike until I see something from him. Not expecting much at all!

Now I've said it, I really wanna do ...

Ozil and Eriksen > Payet and Sanchez (2 FTs)

Now we're 99% sure of no DGW25, is this a good plan?

I don't mind it. It could easily go horribly wrong, or very right, and it keeps things interesting.

I don't wanna lose Eriksen, but I have Alli and Kane too.

In that case, I would keep this week. Ozil is rested and fully fit, Eriksen has norwich, and Payet could easily be the best player on the pitch and blank again.

          Basically it's fairly sideways, if you're not 100% I wouldn't do it.

2 FTs though, I need to use one. And I'm a worried Payet non-owner ...

Prob just do Ozil to Payet and hope Ozil doesn't explode.

Norwich are worth a triple up, they conceded 5 against a Liverpool side who are much worse than Spurs.

    January transfer window ramblings:

Never has there been a greater sign of too much money in PL football than this month's January transfer window. We had a five year high for January spending in the PL and yet there were no 'big name' signings. The closest we saw was Imbula to Stoke but, of course, that's not enough to get the media excited. So why the spending without the profiles? Because there was a stalemate in a very competitive league. No one was willing to roll the dice, for fear of losing ground on their opponents with a miscalculated gamble. The unusual prevalence of loans on deadline day was further evidence of this.

Moreover, for a fair few teams, indicated by the unpredictable nature of this season's PL, January was a time for maintaining their squads. This was particularly true for Leicester and Mahrez. Saints fans were relieved when we ended the window with one more player, rather than one less.

The £7m+ moves generally came from either outside the league or from the peripheries of relatively strong teams - Naismith and Townsend being key examples. Shelvey might be the obvious exception, though he was having personal problems at Swansea. I'm surprised there wasn't a move for Remy, which would have definitely fit into the same bracket for peripheral players seeking a move.

The moves between Championship clubs (Derby and Boro particularly active in recent months) and out of the Championship (Afobe being a clear example) showed that money might be starting to filter down to the Football League but not at anywhere near the rate required to provide a more level playing field for those hoping to make a step up.

So who had the best transfer window?

      Jim White.

      'Boro second 😎

      Newcastle

Bought a decent mid , a average winger and good striker , will stay up this season I reckon
As a Chelsea fan , I am delighted we did not sell Remy because I have no trust AT ALL in Falcao/Pato....and we got 28 million for Ramires. I am sad to see him leave as he is a great player but he isn't a starter under Hiddink and we have been paid more than he is worth considering his age. The only problem was we did not sign a replacement but I am sure it will happen in the summer.
